  • Here's the BD Top Dawg cap for the British Military #12 vehicle stove. The stove burns kerosene. The stove needs to be in good repair for the cap to work properly. You can find the cap for sale at
    i.materialise....
    Sorry they cost so much. There is a lot of material in this really big cap.
    Questions? bd@berniedawg.com

    Love it.
    I was lucky enough to be gifted one of your silent burner caps for my Optimus 8r by my friend Paul over at the real 111t channel.
    Fine craftsmanship indeed.
    Not sure what he paid for it but it's a great investment.

      @BluegrassBushcraft Cool! If that’s a hand-build Minicap I generally allow for transfer of ownership along with the lifetime guarantee. If you need a refurb of the cap sometime down the road and I’m not already in the assisted living center, I do that for free plus return shipping. 👍😎 BD

    This looks great Gary! I will definitely be getting one. If you don't mind me asking, the wall thickness on the 3D printed one looks a fair bit thicker than the handmade one, as far as I can see. Is this just a constraint of the fabrication process, or was it needed for thermal mass or some other reason? Either way, I'm really grateful you've made this available and will be happy to pay for however much material the design uses.

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  3 роки тому

      @Hojra Hoq Thanks! The clunky walls are due to the nature of 3D printing.The initial result of the laser sintering makes a cap that is like wet sand - think sand castle at the beach. It's only after the product has been suffused with molten bronze that the cap becomes hard and super duper. You can watch their video on how they do it here: ua-cam.com/video/2vsaSzrhvcw/v-deo.html
      The printing companies are very stringent on their rules for printing and I have to follow their rules or they won't approve the design for printing. (It can be a frustrating nightmare working with these outfits - they really, really like rules.) The cap design is modified from the sheet and tubing originals to allow for the different wall thicknesses. This cap will tend to glow a bit in operation. But, it's a blend of stainless steel and bronze, both of which can take lots of heat, so no worries. Thanks! BD

    Is this cap better then one from BD upgrade video (one with vertical holes)? Gear Job mate, need to buy one.....

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  2 роки тому

      @Paweł Kocur Well, *I* think so, yes. Only by doing the laborious conversion shown in the other video will you be able to get the other cap to work correctly. If you have all the tools and skills to do that, then, by all means, give it a try. If not, the Top Dawg cap is plug'n'play and is the choice to make. BD

    Do you offer the 3D design file for sale? It’s just difficult to shipping anything globally, and Chinese government has a very strict rule about international shipping.

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  2 роки тому

      @牟俊秋 And, yet... you managed to ship a British Military #12 in some way to China/Taiwan (it would certainly require global shipping since British Military #12 come from the UK!!!). That's pretty funny!! 😄😄
      So... No, sir! I do not share/sell my 3D CAD files.
      To be quite candid, given the penchant for companies in China to copy even internationally copyrighted/patented products, I'm sure you would agree - on some thought by you - that handing out my 3D file, even for some money, would be a very bad idea for me. I hope can you understand and will now agree that it doesn't make sense for me to provide you with 3D CAD files when you can just order the premade product even if there is a small wait for the shipping. Good things come to those willing to wait a bit for quality goods made in the USA. BD

    Yeah, drilling holes one by one is really time consuming. Would better if you had some sort of hole punching device for stamped products.

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  3 роки тому

      @Rysiek N. Yes. That would be better. I’ve found a machine on the web that will punch 1mm holes in 0.04” thick tubing in gangs of rows. Please send me the $270,000 USD for this machine right away and I will begin production immediately. 👍 I appreciate that you are so generous and helpful to back your well-thought-out suggestion with your money. Is the heat output the same/less/more as with original cap?

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  Рік тому

      @Duane Leiker The British didn't equip these with a cap but a flame plate. This BD cap has the same heat output as the original flame plate, of course. The same amount of fuel vapor is burning whether a flame plate or a cap, so same amount of fire, and same amount of heat. It's just physics. If you are asking if this BD cap produces more heat than the original Taiwan-made aftermarket cap, then this BD one produces at least as much as the original Taiwan cap. But, this BD cap produces much more than the new version of the Taiwan-made cap since that new version Taiwan-made cap only works if you use it with a Taiwan-supplied smaller output jet. BD

      @Brian Redmond Stainless steel sintered with bronze. Check the link in the description box below the video to learn more about 3D printing stainless/bronze metal blends. Or... watch this eleven-year-old video to learn how it is done: ua-cam.com/video/i6Px6RSL9Ac/v-deo.html BD

    Hi Gary, is it likely to be produced by i.materialise or just shapeways?

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  3 роки тому

      @RAR Knives and Leatherwork Hi Rob As I mentioned in the description box below the video, this cap is available exclusively at Shapeways. For me to offer it at i.materialise I would have to upload the design, obtain a checkoff from their “engineers”, and then buy one at the same price (-$1) as you would pay for one. I.materialise won’t allow me to sell any designs until I’ve bought one myself. I have one already, plus three hand-built TDs, all for my single BM#12 stove. Unless someone would like to donate me the cost of the TD cap at i.materialise, it’ll remain just Shapeways for now. Maybe I should start a Patreon or a GoFundMe account to raise the dough? Unless you'd like to send me some dough via PayPal to cover the cost of a cap from i.materialise? 🤔🤷‍♂️🙂 BD

      I've just had to pick my jaw up off the floor. I cannot believe I.materialise treat their sellers that way. Well perhaps I can considering my experience with them. More fool them. Shapeways it is then.

    • @BernieDawgCinema
      @BernieDawgCinema  3 роки тому

      😄 It's that way for Shapeways, too. 3D printers want to make sure they can print it before you can sell it. So, you pay to buy one so they can then find out if they can print it. It also means any design changes, even the change of a letter or adjustment of the logo positioning, have to be reprinted from scratch, so developing a cap can require the purchase of many caps if you don't get it right the first time. I have a sizable bin of printed caps. 🙄👍 BD

      Okay. I dug through the cushions on the couch and found some dough to get it printed through i.materialise. Sometime in January 2021 it should be there. BD
