My mom would ALWAYS ask me if I went to mass every time I wore Gucci Pour Homme (2002) because of the resinous incensey dry down. She loved whenever I’d wear that perfume! 🤭
fun fact about Chanel No. 5 - Coco Chanel was inspired by a formula for """Catherine de’ Medici,'"" and after close collaboration with pianist and friend Misia Sert, decided to work on a signature scent, enlisting the help of Ernest Beaux. MORE - Acqua di S.M. Novella - also known as Acqua della Regina (the Queen's Water) - it celebrates the perfume that Caterina de' Medici commissioned the Dominican monks to create in 1533, and she took it with her to France when she married Enrico di Valois. It is a fresh and citrusy bouquet.
glad to see this video! As someone who grew up Catholic the smell of a church is very nostalgic to me and others. Always was looking for something to take that mood into a fragrence. Def picking up a few of your choices
Interesting to see that incense reminds ppl of that. I’ve personally never in my life smelled incense in a church anywhere, incense personally reminds me of spiritual stores, the only place I’ve smelled incense apart from my own room
A great underrated gem imo is Encens roi by HDP! It’s pretty much the most realistic burning olibanum resin scent I’ve tried. The dry down is amazing and goes into a ambery-oudy-spicy-cocoa direction. Really really amazing stuff!
Even better than Avignon is *Rêve d'Ossian* It's the best best incense! The original and ultimate. And *Dans Le Bleu Qui Pétille* by Serge Lutens smells like a church by the sea. I love layering it with Avignon.
Fun video! But no incense list is complete without Armani Privée Bois d’Encens, which I live for. It’s actually a stripped down version of Gucci pour Homme also by Michel Almirac. Problem is, I can’t figure out if it’s discontinued. It’s on the Armani site but hasn’t been in stock for years 🧐 Also, I just picked up the limited edition Adorem from the Nez 1+1 line by Pierre Negrin. It’s extreme incense and cacao (and lots more). So, so good!
Totally agree with number 1. Xerjoff Zefiro makes me feel im inside a church a little melancholic but fantastic scent. Id love to hear your thoughts on it
❤love this. I was also raised in a similiar household and the smell is all too familiar. My mom hates anything i have on when i visit but i bet she compliment me if i wear any of these...it also helps she wanted me to be a priest lol
Casbah is really potent and lingers for ever! Not sure what to do with it 😅! Jovoy liturgie des heures is harsh for me. These fragrances need testing before buying definitely!
I purchased Côté Maquis from l'Objet recently as my go-to church scent. It's so addictive! A thick, resinous, balsamic, and ambery scent with a hint of salt!
Thank you for mentioning Côté Maquis from l'Objet. I plan to try it eventually. Have you tried Dolce & Gabbana Velvet Incenso? If so, how do they compare to each other? I own and enjoy the D&G.
Biehl Parfumkunstwerke MB03 by Mark Buxton used to be my favorite incense scent. Buxtons own brand used to make one very similar fragrance called Around Midnight that was good too. Now I’m on team Avignon.
I grew up Catholic and went to Catholic school all my life. I loved when the priest would sway the incense burner! I had Comme de Garçons Avignon twice and got rid of it each time, it doesn’t smell like the CC incense at all, it’s needs to be sweeter! I think the Jovoy fragrance maybe more up my alley. thanks Sebastian love this video!
I love this video! I grew up in Catholic school, so this is such a nostalgic scent. I wear Dior Bois D’Argent, which smells like Iris, Vanilla, Honey and Incense. Very sweet and churchy to my nose!
The smell of incense and church will always be connected and these are some known and unknown fragrances that definitely bring back memories. Fantastic list Sebastian.
Oh yes I love incense in fragrances and to burn it, try the ones from Astier De Villates they're fantastic. The dried fragrance in the sprayer of Babycat smells like Encens Suave :) Love those three Vanagloria, Babycat and Encens Suave, need to try: Avignon, La Liturgie Des Heures and Fille en Aiguilles. I have a lot of Samples of Laboratorio Olfativo, love the brand, my Favorite: Torcedor, it's Amazing!!! Great video thank you Sebastian!!!
I have been on a resin / incense kick too! I have recently got Rouge Avignon from Phaedon. Love it so much with rose. I also got Tobali Cypress Mask because I wanted to get something with hinoki. Ugh so good. I also been loving Comme de Garçons Floriental’s take on incense.
I’ve always loved the smell of incense. Particularly frankincense. Raised in a Catholic household and being an alter boy as well as being obsessed with Madonna’s “Like a Prayer” vinyl that was sprayed with this amazing Patchouli incense smell would do that to you. My favorite has been Robert Piguet’s “Kasbuh”. Til this day I’m still in search of a fragrance that smells similar to that Madonna vinyl.
I would like to add “Breath Of God” by Lush, also known as “Inhale Exhale” 🙃 this fragrance is kind of strong that carries subtle citrus notes, earthy undertones, and a hint of incense-like smoke, creating a captivating scent that’s both refreshing and mysterious.
Who does not to smell like a church? I DO ❤❤❤❤❤❤ My father is allergic or something and has to puke every time he is in church. But! He adores AVIGNON by CdG & MESSE DE MINUIT by Etro 😊
Serge Lutens L'Orpheline opens up like a very musky oldschool barbershop fragrance that dries down to ashy Incense and clean musk. Its not very churchy but with a bit of imagination it could take you there. A bit monotone but it just adds to the melancholy of the fragrance.
I have burned an incense by Three Kings called Pontifical. It's my understanding that this is the incense used at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Incense Avignon is very reminiscent of this scent to me.
I'm new to fragrance but one of the scents that really impressed me was copal azur by aedes de venustas. Highly recommend you try it, it combines a resinous sort amber incense with sky blue ozonic notes. Really unique combination of fresh and incense.
Excellent video, excellent topic, excellent selection. Puritas is very good. From your list I have Cardinal and Encens Mythique though I've used Encens Flamboyant and the Jovoy one before. I also own Wazamba and would like to get my hands on Encens Roi!
Hi Sebastian. Im from Croatia. I testet La liturgie de heures in your CIty, San Francisco in Castro niche perfumery, and bought later here in europe. Incredible perfume.❤🍀🇭🇷
I really need to try the Matière Première, I have two of them already. Aurélien is an amazing perfumer. I love anything liturgical and the Jovoy is an absolute joy for me but sadly the longevity is next to non existent (2-3 hrs on skin tops) so I opt for Cardinal most of the time just for the longer wear. There's another favorite of mine: Nobile 1942's Malvs, a lesser known release from that house which is a beautiful vanillic myrrh-driven incense fragrance.
Thank you Sebastian - this is the one I've been waiting for! Some I know, but enough that I don't. I got a sample of Fille en Aguilles following another video of yours. At first I was disappointed, it's not a blind buy, but the more I smelled it, the more I loved it - not sure I could wear it, but I love the scent. Shame there was no room on the list for my fave CdG 2 Man, but hey.
Are you familiar with Clue Perfumery? They have a wonderful church themed fragrance called With the Candlestick. It’s like church incense and communion wine
Wonderful that you always have a way to take you back to your home and family when you think of the church and incense. Rose incense and Baby cat win it for me
@@carlito7863 it projects moderately, a little over arms length for about 4 hours. The longevity is over 10 hours. I’ve worn it for 12 hours and still smelled it before washing the scent off.
Oh wow cant wait to watch this...picked up a bottle of Frank- by Simon Constantine of Lush , and perfume brand. Frankincense a must have note for difference in 2024..thanks Sebastian
Sebastian, thank you so much for your videos! I’m curious, speaking of church fragrances, have you tried Female Christ by 19-69? Very curious what you think of that fragrance and the house of 19-69 in general!
Guess what? Dominique Ropion has done another “Babycat” type fragrance for Penhaligon’s called “Audacity.” Somewhat more airy and ethereal. Check it out Sebastian.
I always enjoy your videos… this one was particularly interesting and helpful to me ( as an Eastern Orthodox). Thank you. Would most of these fragrances be geared to fall/winter and maybe special night events?
On the more feminine side I enjoy Delina exclusif. Does ivory root have incense? It's not listed, but it seems very resinous. I enjoy those both. I'm excited to check out the ones on your list!
Have you tried any Antonio Alessandra perfumes from Sicily? He has one called Dies Auroræ that smells like Sicilian pastries intertwined with the incense and wax smells of the Catania Cathedral on the Fest of Sant’Agata.
Agreed. My favourite scent for Christmas. I generally wear it from mid December to late January, the dried fruit and pine notes are perfect for the Winter season
Unfortunately La Liturgie des Heures proved unwearable to me. All I experienced from it was... "Pinesol." I kept it for three years, hoping each time I came back to it that either my nose or the juice would have altered, but no--each time, "Pinesol." I finally gave it away, sadly. I get a better incense note from Tauer's Incense Rose. Also I like the frankincense factor in CdG Rouge together with the beets.
Some great fragrances there 👌 one of my favourites are incense perfumes one I like to go to in dead of winter is arso by profumum roma it's full of woods and smells quite incense on the dry down Naomi goodsir has a good one allso definitely will be perchaseing cardinal by James healy he allso has a extrait version that is beautiful.
How surprising. I’m into fragrances, but I’ve only tried one of these. Maybe I just don’t want to smell like a church. The one I’ve tried is Heeley Cardinal and it definitely smells like a church.…but not in a good way, at least to me.

The ROSE INCENSÉE by Andy Tauer is also an absolute stunner!
A fresh, sparkling champagne-rose with a creamy incense:
I adore this!
Sebatian I am Greek orthodox love this theme the best I have tried it smells exactly like church is Boadicea Prosperous.
Gotta wear Tom Ford Ebene Fume or Tobacco Oud to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. If you’re old calendar you can go with the same.
@@Scooter323 that's hilarious are you in Chicago?
@@emiliosman820 Salt Lake City
I too am Orthodox Christian, Zaharoff rose signature is a perfect rose incense for Liturgy!

Reve d’Ossian is a fantastic fragrance!
Omg stop. I was just looking for your content about “church” smells yesterday and now you come out with this, thank you!
I am reading your mind!! :)

I love Comme des Garcons Incense Kyoto, I only wear it when it rains. Vanagloria is on my list to purchase. Great video as always!
❤love this. I was also raised in a similiar household and the smell is all too familiar. My mom hates anything i have on when i visit but i bet she compliment me if i wear any of these...it also helps she wanted me to be a priest lol
Royal Incense is amazing! Definitely one of the favorites in my collection.
It's so good!
Casbah is really potent and lingers for ever! Not sure what to do with it 😅! Jovoy liturgie des heures is harsh for me. These fragrances need testing before buying definitely!
Ahh the Cardinal one of the best and not too well known here on the USA. Another great one is Messe de Minuit by Etro
I have Encens Sauve and it is one of my favorites from the house of Matiere Premiere..
ELDO Attaquer Le Soleil is surprisingly good but underrated. Smells so beautiful in the air
Filippo Sorcinelli UNUM --LAVS. Probably others from the brand are also very churchy.
You had me at “church” 😍
The best i ever tried was G.Armani Bois d'encens, a mystical, gothic, and forest feel. Very darm, and utterly sexy!
I purchased Côté Maquis from l'Objet recently as my go-to church scent. It's so addictive!
A thick, resinous, balsamic, and ambery scent with a hint of salt!

Xerjoff 1861 zefiro smells amazing the artemisia reminds me of church, elegant and serene
The smell of incense and church will always be connected and these are some known and unknown fragrances that definitely bring back memories. Fantastic list Sebastian.
Also, Xerjoff 1861 Zefiro is HEAVENLY. Amber, resins, cardomom, honey. Just gorgeous.

Encense Suave is the only one I'm familiar with. But I need to go try it again to remind myself of how it smells.
Profumum Roma Ambra Aurea takes me to church, midnight mass in particular. I crave it around the holidays
I recently smelled JOVOY LA LITURGIE DES HEURES and I loved it! It reminds me of my childhood going to church and catholic school. 😄
Montale - Full Incense. That's really Amen!

IMO Issey Miyake's L'eau d'Issey Intense is an underrated beatiful incense fragrance.
Hi Sebastian. Im from Croatia. I testet La liturgie de heures in your CIty, San Francisco in Castro niche perfumery, and bought later here in europe. Incredible perfume.❤🍀🇭🇷

Yay
Encens Asakusa by L'Orchestre is my absolute favorite incense-y scent. I find it to be perfectly balanced and very nostalgic.
I hope to get my nose on that one again soon I remember it was good.
I love incense in fragrances! My next purchase gonna be royal incense from Oman luxury. Last night I have wear this is him from zadig and voltaire

Would love it so much if you made a top 20 elemi fragrances one day 🤩
Great idea!
Was never my style at all but I fell like I‘m slowly getting into it
Have you tried any Antonio Alessandra perfumes from Sicily? He has one called Dies Auroræ that smells like Sicilian pastries intertwined with the incense and wax smells of the Catania Cathedral on the Fest of Sant’Agata.
I suggest you to test BERSERKER from Marc Gebauer. The incense is combined with Eucalyptus. The perfumer is Chris Carbonnel.
My preferred favorite style at all.. especially in winter
I just ordered Eau Sacree by Heeley. It’ll be over a week before I get it. 🤞🏻 🤞🏻
On the cheapie end : Lattafa Majd Al Sultan Asdaaf.

I like the idea of these, thanks!
Rasasi Khaltat al Khasa reminds me of a church and it's a favourite of mine.
Wax candles and incense.

THE WAFT FROM THE LOFT by 4160 Tuesdays I also HIGHLY recommend!
FILLE EN AGUILLES is my signature: never smelled
