My favorite Beach Boy is Carl Wilson. He lived the rock & roll lifestyle in some ways. After all, he was a Wilson. But he eventually proved to be a bridge between the warring factions in the group. A very spiritual man, he was a conscientious objector during the war in Vietnam. He was probably the group's best instrumentalist, and he learned a lot of production skills from Brian. And yes, he had the voice of an angel, but he was far from a choir boy.
Brian is my favorite. Dude is brilliant and amazing at what he does. Also, he’s a walking miracle, his head is screwed on tight after all the abuse and trauma, and he is doing well nowadays! Also not to mention, his straightforwardness when doing interviews and promotions is very wholesome, this man doesn’t live for the spotlight, he lives to help others feel happy through his music, and he’s been that way his whole life.
@@antebellumstage - No... I'd put Glenn Campbell there because David actually did sing on the albums, while Glenn was just a live performance stand-in for Brian.
Brian fully deserves the respect and affection he is held in both by other musicians (across generations) and his many many fans. His music has helped me on a daily basis through difficult periods as it has many others. He remains humble and genuinely in love with music
Timothy White's 'The nearest faraway place' which also explores the family history of the Wilsons/Loves is almost a case study intergenerational trauma and how abusive and self destructive behaviour gets passed down. I find the story of the Wilson brothers deeply tragic but am glad Brian has lived long enough and gotten himself to a place where he can tell his own story and see how loved he and his music is
A few points, Murray Wilson died in 1973 (not 1970), I understand Mike Love did surf and longtime band member Bruce Johnston was also an avid surfer, It's also been argued that Dennis and Charles Manson fell out over the Manson song Cease to Exist (recorded by the Beach Boys as Never Learn Not to Love) over Dennis's changes to the lyrics. I don't like Mike but his touring as "The Beach Boys" is a function of the directors of Brother Records Incorporated (BRI) of which Mike, Brian and the estate of Carl Wilson voted in favour of (over Al Jardine's objection) after Carl died in 98. Al did write a few decent songs I like better than At My Window, particularly Take a Load Off Your Feet & Santa Ana Winds & All This Is That. Thank you for the Video!
@Blend42 I grew up only a few miles west of the Wilson family (Dennis surfed on our beach), but when it comes to surfing, Mike Love was never more than a wanna-be. He was well aware how much competent surfing would have added to his image, but he never got there. Mike’s done little more than pose with surfboards and bikini-clad girls on the beach... Bruce Johnston did/does surf, but he was not a founding member of the band.

Al's finest moment is on the '73 Concert album, when he & Carl trade verse/ chorus, on " DWB " . Al always showed up, did his parts & never caused turmoil. -----------2. Carl was a fierce perfectionist as MD, & as Billy Hinsche once said, " no one ever wanted to get 'the look " from Carl " -----------5.
