Do front squats in the gym to improve your athleticism, mate. It's the single most effective exercise to increase explosiveness and because it requires a lighter weight than back squats, it can be trained during the season.

Unless you have a specific condition, don't worry about taking eggs. Some people taking 10+ a day. Complete protein source and full of nutrients.
