I had a mk 1 Panic in 1978 - that had ailerons on the bottom wing and a single long flap on the top one, coupled to the elevator with a Y lead. Piped Webra 61. Then a mk 2 with coupled flapperons on both wings and a piped Super Tigre 75 turning a 14x6 prop. I also had a Moronic for fun-fly competitions - that had a piped Webra 40. Maybe 1% of your viewers will understand any of that :-D
So nice to see this one I always wanted to fly it during the 80s when others in my field use to fly I have two these still with me. Nice video brings back memories. Will try to get this one.
Super glue, Solar film, veneered foam wings were all new in the nineteen eighties. Hey Stew, 'glow plug' pre-dates nitro. I still have a new in-box HP 61 motor, maximum 2% nitro fuel. Electric planes only existed as a pylon kit for gliders which went under the rubber bands holding the wing down, a brushed motor with NiCd batteries, the throttle was just a resistor strip connected to a servo.
Yep, manual speed controller. A potentiometer and a servo. Those were the days ^_^ I flew glow, but my cars were electric in those days and they were still super fun. "ESC" was a thing that we really just...couldnt afford.
@@NeoIsrafil I had electric cars too, used my 4ch 27MHz Futaba Tx, I had 2 of them, (orange and blue channels), easier than trying to get spare crystals. Lugged a car battery 300m over to the park for charging the NiCd packs. Futaba were a cheap brand back then (£120 with 3 servos), while European radio gear cost a fortune.
I brought the kid from Avicraft. They are great fun, run on a 3S 2200 lipo and the balsa is so well cut that you put nearly all the model together with thin and medium cyano, so quick to assemble. Totally recommend it and Avicraft will always take the time to give you advice on assembly.
Bloody hell, I used to go to Avicraft.... I went to Raglan Rd school in the late 70’s early 80’s.... got my first Tamiya Rough Rider from Avicraft, happy days ! I dropped into Avicraft last year when I travelled back to the UK (from Geelong). What a small world !
@@paulriggs42 that's funny, we lived in Mottingham, then New Ash Green, and flew a few times a week at the cabbage patch. Now living in Geelong, but it's great to have these old planes again. We must catch up some time!
That's funny, I just did a similar thing: I rebuild my first aileron trainer from 1978 and also put a glow engine on it. It flies really great and brings up a lot of memories 😏
Would love to have Don, but I plan to treasure this one (if Stew had his way he would have had me do it despite the risks just to get more UA-cam hits) ;-)
I have 3 anniversary editions (big ones), the first one must be like 15 years old, I keep on flying, occasionally crashing and restoring them. He didn't show the full potential of the little plane, you can take off by spinning on the ground (if you have a good power setup), you can also do stationary and even ascending flatspins.
I just noticed the Avicraft online shop is up and running, so I bought myself a mini panic! Could someone from UAVfutures help me out with what motor long range Tony is using on this plane?
Make a $99 build with everything you need even if it’s more I need a controller and headset that goes 600yards plus with stuff in the way so no clipping or disruptions just clean video
My dad and I used to run these at the airfield ~15-20years ago, when I around 10. And in the winter I built my own glider and joined a few competitions with it. But got my heart crushed only one month in.. guy who launched me did not understand "slow down" and I couldn't get my craft to plane out so the wing snapped in half and got totalt in the crash. Never managed to get the energy to rebuild. And now I just fly quads and race 1:16 buggy. If you crash something it's 1-2 hours to rebuild it instead of 1-2days...
nice video and plane ... I even visited their web site and sorry, but this is really a bit outdated to open a website without a shop, not an ebay or amazon shop. Nothing is there. Maybe Corona virus will give them the kick they need to sell online cause UK is not the safest harbor in europe to visit - quite the opposite. If they can afford not to sell then they might have put money aside but old days with shop only sale are gone - or you become a sword and knife maker even though they already have an online shop selling 1000€ knives and 10.000€ swords ...
Hi , We have a walk in shop, we did have an online shop as well, but when my brother had a stroke I couldnt keep up with kit production, design, Retail shop and online shop. I sell on ebar as laserkitsandbitz if that helps. I also sell the bigger panic through JPerkins Thanks Rob newman
Hey Stew, I am from the UK and ever since I was little boy i was interested in brushless drones. The thing is I can’t afford to buy the drone or the controller or even the headset. I was wondering if you would do a small giveaway. I’ve been watching your videos for like three years now. And cause of lockdown I can go out. So I was wondering if you can send me a mini brushless drone setup giveaway.
also check out the uavfutures website- uavfutures.com/
Looks a lot of fun. Balsa planes where so much better looking back in the day. Fun little vid. Gotta get long range Tony up on the streams.

Very cool to see a plane !!! Love the video, and love the support of a small local, rather than a large company !

Great little shop. Classic model.

Lovely little plane

A small world indeed. I thought I was the only one in Geelong who knew of Avicraft!
Tony Butler - we used to live in Parkside Avenue, Bickley. Then moved to Chislehurst when I was growing up in the ‘burbs.....

I've had and flown many of these...they're great, look up the Panic Flying Team...
That butterfly in the beginning 0:50 tripped me out! :D 👍👍

Bought one of the bigger IC ones when I was in the UK, can fly gently or extreme. You should have really freaked Stu out with a flat spin landing Tony

Made me smile to see Stu being such a newb about 3D planes. Much like me with quads.....:).
had one of these when i was a kid too.. sad to hear that bunny passed on the 5th of jan though
Just woke up for work in Florida, 0245😏
@UAVFutures in Australia, do you have similar rules as the UK regarding landowner permission to take off and land?
My father bought his first rc from Avicraft, small world.

nice GCN shirt!
Great design, can slow fly as well as rip aerobatics, they should sell the kits online.
Great Video. Are you going to review the eachine lal3.

I wondered why these GAS OR NITRO never fly FPV?
Vibration
Hey early now!
And he didn't even let you fly it.. what a killjoy 😂
Next.. Stu turn to get to fly a trainer plane.. 😘
I do not live far from Avicraft have spent oodles of money there in the past.
No one wants to bash something that took a week or two to build!
i don't know what you're talking about mate lol
Bromley!!! Nah! don't go south of the river mate ;)
Does...noone fly glow engines anymore? Is that not a thing? Lol
