I love this for 2 reasons. 1. I love wing content because i want one. 2 i LOVE how jazzed and excited you and Steve were. Makes the video more fun for me as a viewer =)
thanks mate. loved the feedback. fun is the aim of the game, im just like you guys having fun flying in the field. except I film it. You should come visit a live stream some time.
Great fun mate! LIttle Tip... Fly it first one flight not FPV and trim the control surfaces out so it flies flat and level at half throttle. While doing all this time your flight so you know exactly how long you have and subtract 1 minute for safety to come back and land in case you need to do a second approach. Been flying for 35+ years. I also had a Wing same as Steve's and they fly and glide great too. Had a flight controller in it and it takes all the shakes form the wind out of your flight in level mode, similar to drones. Something also to learn is how to glide "dead stick" (no motor power) as this is life saving for your aircraft. Happy flying mate!
thanks for the awesome advice. I flew again yesterday.... it was very windy and I may have crashed into the house trying to land... it just wouldnt slow down
I recently jumped into fixed wing FPV with both feet! It is super fun! I'm actually about to order my 5th plane! (I ordered my first one about 4 weeks ago, and I've already successfully converted one to VTOL on inav 7! I still love flying my quads, don't get me wrong, but after 2 years and almost 30 builds,I was starting to run out of ideas. I guess now I'm both a quad guy and a wing guy! And there is nothing wrong with that! It's like falling in love with FPV all over again!
I flew a sky king in my experimental phase, great fun way easier than a drone. But being able to fly sideways, backwards and hover is what put me on drones in the end
Since I built my $99 dollar quad using your video about 5 years ago, which I still am flying now with my Turnigy Evo TX and Aomway Commander v1, after a couple of months I bought my Baby wing AR, but never tried flying it. I'm too scared to even try. Lol. This time around, maybe I would. can't wait to try it.
This was fun to watch 😂 I recently got into fpv wings also and absolutely LOVE it 🎉 I now have 5 planes. I’d definitely recommend INAV or some kinda flight controller for smaller wings in the wind. Also u can slow down and do a lot more gliding when it gets bumpy. I still love drones with their amazing stability and performance but wings really made me fall in love with fpv again 😎
A mini race-wing is probably the hardest option to get set up for a 'My First FPV Plane'. Suggestion, ZoHD Drift with Kopilot flight controller and the basic camera that comes as ZoHD's "ready to fly FPV" package kit.
I was getting burned out on FPV a couple years ago, and mixed some LOS rc planes and FPV wings (wangs for the hardcore, lol) into my routine, and it gave me a good break. Such a different vibe.
@@UAVfutures It’s a mode in inav so you will need a flightcontroller. When autotune is on (with a mode switch on the transmitter) you fly a few minutes and do really hard manoeuvres , first roll left and right , if ok then proceed with pitch. The plane will feel better and better and will tune itself. After landing you perform a “save” action and the plane’s pid’s (actually called piff’s for a wing) will be tuned and stored. Then fly again and tune more if needed but my wing was tuned within a few minutes. The flight is much more enjoyable, the plane is a lot more steady and not all over the place like you have now. It is 1000 procent worth it and makes flying so much easier. Painless 360 is the man for setting up a inav plane. He has a video for the setup you can follow. Good luck!
drones are obviously far more difficult to learn and fly and far more flexible and fun, I don't imagine I'd ever care to fly wings, seems just too simple and boring
@@tyborg314It’s pretty cool though to sit there for 30-45 minutes and blast through trees for a lot longer than a quad can fly or just head out for a long range cruise, much further than a drone can fly.
Thanks for the fun wing video! For those who are looking for a good and inexpensive wing flight controller I've been using the SpeedyBee F405 Wing Flight Controller and am impressed. I'd like to try the Mini version as well, have heard good things.
Hey Stew, How many times do I need to remind you? It's AR BABY WING. I have been building wings for years, and they all fly with INAV. This time, I have my ELRS Boxer and the MT12, I found these two ground ELRS receivers, and i plan on using the 3 channels to fly my AR Baby. I plan to use walksnail with it .but it's a bummer not having an OSD. Maybe I will get a Speedybee wing FC instead, I like my battery voltage. I'm already a supporter, you can't have a raise this month. That's why I fly INAV. AUTOTUNE: Once that's done, it's smooth flying. Good going, Steve. Welcome to wings. Thanks for the video.
You need to manually PIFF tune. However until iNav 8 tuning isn't easy. It's mostly increasing the FF until it's about 80% of manual, and increasing I from like 4 to 10. Then you can have auto launch. For wings it may be safer to launch them almost vertically with 2 hands than a boomerang throw.
@@UAVfutures Yes. I admit it's scary. Else once you've increased the I and possibly did an auto tune to auto-adjust the FF, then auto launch should help
well, that first "landing" could've been prevented in that way if there'd be a use of voltage telemetry. no idea what RX has been used, it did kinda look like the radiomaster elrs receiver and those ones have battery voltage telemetry. just set the radio to call out voltage either automatically or when hitting a switch to prevent running out of power/discharging the battery too much :D
been flying wings , planes , boats etc fpv long before drones , since the late 70's on tube tv and yes 5 second latency. but some of my coolest is fpv a glider , lay down and enjoy catching thermals and you can fly till batteries dead. wings are a blast too. maybe go digital getting old
Will a speedybee405 flight controller (mini) and the walksnail Moonlight kit fit in it? I see it is fairly small, how does it handle wind? I have Wing Wing Z-84 would it be just as good of a platform to do automated flights with?
Can you make a video on how you deal with the fpv laws in Aus/QLD. It’s quite hard to navigate and I really want to come back into the hobby but just have no idea what I can do..
@@UAVfutures the setup is best when you have the radio configured for elevon mix ant definitely no more than 50 percent travel, I found 30 percent fine, and yeah 25 percent or so on the expo. Really do appreciate all of your work and information that you have provided over these years!
Got the fixed wing itch a while back, the setup without a “fc” is totally weird.. got a kit, havnt had time to build, let alone fly.. would love to see a fc build with betaflight or inav ..
Been looking about getting into wings lately but perhaps something of a slightly bigger craft for better stability. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford something within a few weeks or after the election.

To get voltage you could wire the voltage wire to your positive on your battery cable and have the radio say it out loud the battery voltage
