Additional little tip….. when you wind shorter ribbons around the card (when you don’t have them on a spool) write the length of the ribbon on the card and you don’t then have to unwind to find out if you have enough for your project or not
Thanks so much!! This takes care of 2 issues for me! Years of ribbon storage problems AND curtain rods that have been hanging around unused for years!! So happy!!
OMG, this is genius and so simple. I have fought with how best to organize my spools and this is the answer. You are a genius and I appreciate this trick sooo much. I am going to mount mine to a board because my space is not permanent, we'll see if that works or not. I am a new sub but will be checking more of your ideas. Thanks
What a wonderful idea! I've so wrestled with my ribbon spools as well as pieces of ribbon for so long - never finding a good way to store either. This is truly a gift. Thank you so much!
This idea would translate so well for washi tape as well! Genius idea! I love seeing these great hacks that not only are incredibly useful and PRACTICAL, but they also are so pretty. I can picture how pretty my washi tape would be adding colour pops along the rack. The other thing I like about this plan is that you can see what you have. I don’t know about you, but I have often bought the exact same pattern simply because I forgot I already had it in my stash. By having everything in front of you when choosing, you can actually save money by avoiding;g those duplicates. Thank you so much, Jan! ❤️🇨🇦
You mean I didn’t have to buy those 3 boxes to hold washi tape? $30 each 😂. I might see if I can work this for my Glimmer foil rolls. I have about 40. At least a dozen rolls of texture tape, or something like that. I bought a holder for that but never hung it. Thanks for your suggestion 🙏🏽
I love your tutorials! Unfortunately, I am new to sewing and do not have a sewing room. Any tips on how to organize your supplies when you have to take everything off of the dining room table between projects?
I've been there. I would suggest getting a large bin and when you are finished, put it all in the bin or a nearby closet until you're ready to sew again.
As I watched I initially thought, nope. I keep my trims and ribbons in drawers to prevent fading and dust. But I realized one could include a top rod and make a cornice pocket sheer to hang over all ribbons, trims to accomplish what I initially thought was a shortcoming. One could really get creative on the top rod and one could easily spray paint those rods too. I am in the process of reorganizing my sewing and craft rooms, I am going to see if I can use your hint. Thank you for a realistic and economical solution. When it comes to loose ends, why not notch cardboard similiar to how thread rolls work?
Great idea! I don't like putting holes in my ribbon with a pin, so I use a little piece of blue painters tape to secure the end. It doesn't leave a sticky residue.
Thanks for the great idea….now put on your thinking cap and come up with an idea to keep the dust off those ribbons. Can’t wait to see what you come up with. Yours ideas always inspire me.
I have Ikea boards for my 5 workstations. My husband says I have enough holes in the walls. LOL 😜So, I use skewers or dowels cut to just shy of the width of my Sterlite stackable drawer containers. I place the spools onto the skewer/dowel by color, add an elastic over one end and stretch it to the other. Place in my bin. This not only keeps my colors together, but it elastic stops the end unraveling off the spool. I guess you could also sort by width of ribbon or type of ribbon if you desire that. If I need red ribbon, I remove the skewer(s) I need and place it back in my drawer when done. As I have many types of crafts I do, I don't always use ribbon so having the ribbon out collecting dust or fading from light is not an option for me.
YeS!! A ribbon saver! I have been brain storming this past month on how to hang my ribbons. Nothing was working and "wah-la!" Thank YoU!❤ And I have subscribed !🎉😊
You just don’t know how timely this is. I had a system but I got my entire basement remodeled into my sewing studio and I can’t find the hangers and dowels I used to use. I like this much better and I already have everything I need. Thank you so much. Blessings.
Very good, mine need doing now. An extra little tip for ironing the scrunched up ribbons........pull them through hair straighteners pretty quick just in case. But works for me.
Great idea! I always love to have my ribbon on display so I can see what I need or don’t need for a project. Otherwise, I buy more ribbon when I find out later I didn’t need to. Thanks for the fun ribbon organizer tip!
Great idea.I did a similar thing only I used cardboard and attached them inside a cardboard box I decorated. This way I only put two holes in the wall and because it was very light It didn't need a stud either.
Great idea! I put my ribbon on a dowel rod that is supported by a curtain rod bracket on each end. I don't use a lot of ribbon, so it works great for me.
Another great idea! Do you have a storage solution for rulers? I have so many rulers and know there must be a better way to store them. Thanks for another great tutorial!
Great idea if you have the wall space. I use Hugo’s Amazing tape instead of a rubber binder or tape to keep my spools from unraveling in the bin I currently store them in. Since I don’t have a dedicated space for crafting/sewing.
Another idea is a shoe caddy (the pocket kind) that hangs up. I just put 2 wreath hangers over my craft room door and hang the caddy from them. I also have bind packages of bias tape and seam binding in one, color cod÷d.
Genius idea - it does solve all the problems except for one big one. That would be me actually working with and using up all the spools of ribbon I have neatly tucked away in plastic boxes - not messy. That is because they get so messy when I use them that now I just avoid that and they are wasting away BUT you have solved that problem with your wonderful idea. THANK YOU SO!!
Fantastic idea! I don’t have a lot of ribbon yet, but this a great thing to do when I get more. I love the thread holders! Where did you get those? I have a bunch of thread, all tossed into 2 separate small totes, one for polyester and one for cotton. I think your wall holders will be a big help in storing my thread!
I couldn’t really see how you inserted the pin into the ribbon spool! I really liked the idea, but don’t know how you placed in in the spool. Love the loose ribbon storage idea, though. I have my loose ribbon in a gallon sized storage bag, which I hate.
@@JanHowellIf the ribbon is on a thin cardboard spool, cut a small angle in the outside edge of the spool. The ribbon can be slipped in. No need for a pin, tape or anything else 👍🏻
Additional little tip….. when you wind shorter ribbons around the card (when you don’t have them on a spool) write the length of the ribbon on the card and you don’t then have to unwind to find out if you have enough for your project or not
great idea. thanks for sharing.
Great idea.
The camera angle is messing with my perception of your 'level' curtain rod! It's like noooo..... lol
😄I was thinking that too.
Me too!
Me too, lol! Great simple cost effective idea!
I thought it was just me. I can’t do anything in a straight line, and when I saw her rod it looked lower on the left.
Same!
I like both ideas! I would also add hooks to the lower rod and hang rulers and other light items that I use often.
Great idea!
Thanks so much!! This takes care of 2 issues for me! Years of ribbon storage problems AND curtain rods that have been hanging around unused for years!! So happy!!
Score!!!!!
I used this method and found it to work perfectly! I wish I could upload a photo of my finished project.
That's great! If you’re on instagram you can upload a photo on my page. @youmakeitsimple. I would love to see it!

Thanks, and I sure will.
One idea is to cover the rod with fabric. It would take it that much further.
Great idea! I love your hair too!

I loved that! Thank you!

I keep the plastic strip the ribbon usually comes wrapped in, and roll it back around the spool and tape the plastic to keep them from unrolling.
thanks for sharing
Brilliant idea! I’m gonna do that. Thanks 👍🏻

Get rid of the spools. Wrap ribbon around cardboard and put in a box. It'll take up less than 1/2 the space.
thanks for sharing
Try a plastic rain gutters from Home Depot or Lowe’s then cap them at the ends. It’s very inexpensive also

Great idea! Do they try to topple over or off the ends? … I love your haircut, btw! Adorable ☺️
LOL you are so kind. I havn't had any issues with them falling off the ends.

I got the rack at Joann

I couldn’t really see how you inserted the pin into the ribbon spool! I really liked the idea, but don’t know how you placed in in the spool. Love the loose ribbon storage idea, though. I have my loose ribbon in a gallon sized storage bag, which I hate.
Insert the pin at an angle so it doestn't go straight into the spool. You can also use a small piece of painters tape to hold it in place.
@@JanHowellIf the ribbon is on a thin cardboard spool, cut a small angle in the outside edge of the spool. The ribbon can be slipped in. No need for a pin, tape or anything else 👍🏻
Elastic around the ribbon will keep on the spool

this is such a great idea! too bad i'm renting. then again, the landlord doesn't have to know...
You can fill the holes when you move, lol
Great idea! Thank you!
