Thanks everyone for stopping by! I am still working on this every day. Lately I'm making weapons - trying to see if I can finish all 20 primary weapons in one stretch.

Any people shooting flack at this game are conceited and oblivious to what constitutes a wonderful game. I've been led to believe that this is nothing less than a butter smooth, spandex sexy, and brilliantly badass game with a lovely soundtrack! It's especially beautiful to see when one thinks that Metroidvania has disappeared, especially when Metroid was the most influential game on one's childhood.

Joe Smith I’m a big fan of axiom verge and think it’s one of the most original metroidvanias in years. Double jump? Too simple, glitch control mechanism? That’s better.
The music is amazing. Crazy that you did the game, gfx, AND music all yourself. Talk about multi-disciplined. Please release the music!
Honestly, I think it's about time this game gets a release on the GOG store, considering how long it's been launched.

As a huge NES/SNES fan (over 180 games between the two systems), and a huge old school Metroid fan, this game looks awesome. Keep up the good work, don't put this project down.
Good to hear. You know that when someone watches a trailer, thinks "I need this game now" (as I did), then they realize that this is only from the first area of the game, the developer is doing something right :D
Games like this are the reason that I love indie gaming. I can't wait for thsi.
The sound in the trailer is the track for the first area of the game cut in half. I'd say the rest of the soundtrack has quite a similar to style to this one. :)

Metroidmania? don't you mean metroidvania?
Metroidvania is the genre. Metroidmania is the love of Metroid. It's like Jungle Fever.
SotNist Metroidvania is a made-up genre. Castlevania contributes nothing to Metroid.
Adam Dork all genres are made up, and that's how they become genres. Symphony of the Night brought Castlevania themes and lore, loot, experience and basic rpg elements to the non-linear sidescrolling 2D platforming adventure archetype established by Metroid, as well as a more graceful and ephemeral approach to the controls and play mechanics. I know some people don't like that term, but the semantics of genre these days is silly.
You can shoot diagonally, and also hold down the L button to lock him in place to keep from running as you do so.
and here I am at 41 thinking I'm the only die hard old school Metroid fan left or fan of the games that are inspiring this game. This just shot to the top of my most wanted games list! This game can not get here soon enough!

Finally played a demo of this on a PS4 kiosk in a Fry's Electronics. I am now chomping at the bit for this game. Cannot wait for this to come out. I want it now. I guess I'm driving back to Fry's.
I'm going to put a soundtest menu in (like in Sega Genesis/Megadrive games), and see if I can release the soundtrack separately through other channels (I don't know how friendly Apple is to indies but iTunes seems like the logical place for it). I'm thinking it'll also be a kickstarter reward, if I do that.

@Raito123 This is just the first area of the game, so red and grey are kind of the "theme" I picked for it. The other areas (there are 9 of them) use different colors, mostly not red :)
I'm playing it, a hug to my childhood by glitching secrets and refreshing tunes. Love this game!

Thanks! The next one is still a month or two out, but it's going to focus more on the exploration/secrets aspect.
In the next trailer I'll be showing something that makes it quite different from Super Metroid. But for now that feature is a secret. :)

Oh... This may seem a little odd... But I think everything is great, the NES cyberpunkish dark sci-fi contra-metroid like graphics and enviroment are really appealing to me (hell, it's probably one of my favourite styles), though the animations are very well done and seem to make the game look more fluid and dynamic... I have a strange feeling that those blur effects that appear once in a while are a little out of place, but that's maybe just me.

Brilliant work so far. I hope to your success in completing it, knowing how it can be difficult to keep up with both job and doing this as a part-time thing. To add from my experience, family went to self destruct mode that got too dangerous to ignore, then quit for years to keep the fire down. ._.

It's still going. I've got about 3/8th of the maps made, though I'm not sure that's a good measure since the thing that takes longest is programming new features (like I'm expecting the grappling hook to take a while). I'm still targeting 2013.

I played through this game maybe a year ago on the Ps vita. The story is awesome, please make an axiom verge movie, if not Axiom verge 2 please. The gameplay is also great, like some ppl say, the best metroid game Nintendo never made. I just found out some time ago only 1 friggin person made this game? You kidding? And don’t be fooled by those 8-bit graphics, this game can be creepy as h at times. Well done, modern classic

Looks amazing. I think that the best visual parts is when you move away from the Metrod inspiration (boss graphics, player character), I'd prefer the wall tiles to be less similar to Metroid's in style as well.

If I can make a suggestion, I personally prefer bandcamp as a place to buy and sell music, and it's what a lot of independent musical artists I like use.

@DrMuganda That was the plan all along :) Plus I'm cutting most of the dialogue as it presently is, anwyay.
I'd LOVE to release it for one of these, particularly a handheld, but the XNA/XBLIG combination was much more viable for me as an indie. I believe intrepid developers are working to port XNA to iOS, so maybe there is something in the works for these others, as well, which would make the job a lot easier.

Dare I say it? Indie gaming is where almost all of the innovation in gaming is currently coming from. I don't even understand why so many people still mostly follow corporate gaming anymore.

Hey Tom, I am so excited about this game! Some of my favorite games of all time are the Metroid games, especially Super Metroid. I know I'll love this game! Thanks for making it! At the end of the trailer it said it will be available on Xbox 360. I'm assuming that changed since you are releasing it on PS4 and Vita. Any plans to put it on 360 or Xbox One? I hope you will!!! Because I have those 2 consoles, but no PS4. Please bring it to Xbox!
