    I also purchased a few tricks from 'Wish' and very few came with instructions. There were two tricks that were worth the money ($2) & came with instructions - & worked very well. One was called the spinning nut & bolt trick. The nut actually spins off the bolt in your hand. Mine came with 2 batteries, a tiny magnet, instructions, a sleeve (which you need the install the battery.) This trick really works & is almost impossible to figure out. The nut & bolt look like a normal nut & bolt & the battery is undetectable. Well worth the money.
    The other trick was the bending key trick- It is like the bending quarter trick that you put in a bottle, only it is a key - very well made with instructions, an extra 'real' key & extra, tiny rubber bands.

    At 7:33, you could maybe glue some felt on the p*ll to decrease or eliminate noise? You could also do like with the “R***n and put some sticky-tack on the magnet and it could p*ll other, non-magnetized things.

    I go half way. I buy my coin stuff in Morgan replica from the Chinese magic shops on Amazon. $30 vs. up to $300 for essentially the same plated pressed brass gimmicks. They even give visual instructions for routines (no speaking). for all else... I go to Penguin or buy raw materials and fabricate.

    Thanks for this!! Some folks are probably wondering if what they got is what the actual trick is not realizing the quality. Very well done without much, if any reveals! I don't know how you did that. A trick in itself! 🙂

    I’ve acquired a few good tricks from wish that have instructions that were decent tricks. I’ve purchased one magic trick from Ali express and it didn’t have instructions but they tell you that if you don’t get instructions to let them know and they will email them to you which they have done.

    Support creators and legal retailers by buying less but better. Long after the price is forgotten, the quality remains..

    As things change amazing how much they stay the same. I remember when I first got into magic we did not have the internet. What we had was catalogs with line drawings of the products. If I had a dollar for every time I saw a cool prop in a magic store or a performance, bought what was advertised to be that prop from one of those catalogs only to get a cheap poorly homemade knock off of it. Some of those brick and mortar mail order stores are still around today and still ripping people off.

    I tried to order a trick from AliExpress quite a long time ago, and after several days of the item not being shipped, the seller contacted me and told me to give him my email address, to send my *pictures* of my trick I ordered. After asking him to refund my purchase, he tried to tell me I bought the wrong item, but in the item description it clearly said all props included.
    Long story long, don't waste your time or money on these sites.

    Hi David:
    I don’t use WISH to buy tricks, mostly because I feel it takes money away from the original creators; secondly, because I’d rather study-up before buying and pay a bit extra for the “real thing.”
    However: WISH is a potential source for buying props and accessories that cannot be easily sourced elsewhere. For example: I was looking for a “poison” ring for use in a “Borgia Dinner” routine (a ring that features a hidden compartment used, in the old days, to hide toxic nasties and kill enemies). These are difficult to find and usually very expensive. I found quite a few on WISH, all between $1-$5 plus $3-$4 shipping. I bought two and the quality was fine for what I needed. WISH is also valuable for sourcing stones, bells, bags, boxes, Tarot cards, pendulums, because they have wide selections and all are very, VERY inexpensive. Also: oddball stuff like finger smoke paper.
    Just for the record: everything I’ve received from WISH has been of a good or acceptable quality. I haven’t felt cheated once. I realize that others, some of whom HAVE purchased tricks, have had very negative experiences, so I'm not making an endorsement: only sharing my experience buying ancillary support items.
    I use PayPal on WISH to be protected in that respect. WISH has a reliable tracking system. Most shipments arrive within two weeks (give or take). In fact: they will give you a delivery range upfront and have always been true to those estimates.
    For actual effects: go to the creators or the companies directly representing those folks. If you are having trouble finding unusual and/or inexpensive props: check out WISH.

    I have 4 tricks that I bought off both Aliexpress and an American vendor. On three of them, the gimmick was of comparable quality, while on one, the gimmick was poorly made compared to the one from the US vendor. In all 4 instances, the packaging on the US soured trick was better, but that's just packaging.

    About the instruction you can always ask for it from the sellers, at least from aliexpress you will always get it. Some are good products, some are not. I am not saying it is OK to buy from them, but you can get good stuff on some cases, just to be honest.

I did discover that some of the stuff I get from the magic stores have the same quality and some are better. I guess that there is some stuff that come from the same manufacturers, especially the cheap ones that are in the magic dealers. But again as I said I no longer buy there to support the creator's.

  • @ResoluteGryphon

    I don't like the fact that Wish and AliExpress sell copyrighted magic. But I HATE the overpriced official stuff. As a poor amateur magician, I buy the cheap stuff and practice to perform it well. Oftentimes the quality is virtually the same at a tenth of the price.
    One scam to avoid however is, many of the sellers are selling INSTRUCTIONS ONLY (i.e. bootlegged copies of video downloads). You will not receive any gimmicks needed to perform the effect! BUYER BEWARE!

    • @magicorthodoxy
      @magicorthodoxy  Рік тому

      the cheap stuff is also BUYER BEWARE _ it's stolen money taken from the magicians that we claim to love.

    • @ResoluteGryphon
      @ResoluteGryphon Рік тому +1

      It's usually the publisher's fault (Penguin Magic, Theory 11, etc.) that the tricks are so overpriced. Unfortunately the actual creators don't see much profit. I feel the high price of entry makes magic an elitist hobby. I think more folks would get into magic if they could afford it.

    • @magicorthodoxy
      @magicorthodoxy  Рік тому
