Nasci em Santos-o-Velho, frequentei um colégio na Rua Santana á Lapa, fui batizada e fiz a comunhão solene na Basilica da Estrela.Apesar de ter 70 anos ainda recordo as brincadeiras com minha irma no Jardim de Estrela. No house purchase although she looked at two and we did make an offer on one, which we ended up not finalizing, for various reasons. She took care of NIF and a bank account so that part of the trip was a success. One of the other ones being the official residence of the President of Portugal (not the prime-minister), in the Belém neighborhood. Now that you have NIF and a local bank account part of the time consuming bureaucracy is already taken care of. Ola Ola Miguel. I was really excited to watch this, and didn't leave it to the weekend like we usually do. In our 3 times in Lisbon, we somehow have never made to this area so keen to see what we were missing. I just love the Basilica and its beautiful interior and the muted colours. Very different from others where every surface seems to be covered in gold, which I find a little confronting. Estrela looks like a good place for a holiday base, and will consider this for next trip 🥝🤗

Até que em fim, foi visitar o meu bairro! Que saudades ,do jardim, de me deitar na relva,com um bom livro,e lanchar no café que lá existia,e agora só comidas sem interesse. Emocionei me ao ver o altar onde me casei ,na basílica em agosto de 66,era a minha igreja e eu cantava no coro. Só tive pena de não ter pedido ,para ver o presépio.Uma grande obra de Machado de Castro,com 480 figuras e um dos mais detalhados que existe.Mas talvez para a próxima,nem toda a gente sabe,claro...Mas é o meu bairro,eu conheço bem.Desejo lhe saúde e boas pernas,para andar a fazer vídeos,por mim, já que eu não posso......Aninhos...Aninhos...eles não perdoam.

Na altura o jardim era muito calminho, agora tem sempre mais visitantes. 🙂 Cantava no coro, que interessante! Eu sabia da existência do presépio, o problema é que cheguei já muito em cima da hora de fecho e já não havia tempo para mais nada. Fica para a próxima oportunidade. Abraço e uma boa semana!

Hello Ulker! 😊 Expats do both, it usually depends if they expect to stay in Lisbon long term or not. Younger expats rent while older ones usually buy properties. The most expensive neighborhood, and also one of the most secretive and least known about, is Lapa, which is right next to Estrela. I was there last week, so expect a video in the coming weeks. 😉 I almost got arrested! 😁 That's where mansions can easily cost upwards of 10 million euros. Most embassies are located in Lapa. It also includes "normal" housing for average families, it's not only expensive mansions. A couple of years ago Madonna tried to buy a house there. The poorest one is more difficult, there are a handful of neighborhoods comprised exclusively of public housing for low income families. What in the UK is called "council housing", and in the US "housing projects". Some of them include Chelas, Quinta do Loreiro, Bairro das Moagens, etc... Rough places that you won't easily find, with high unemployment rate, drug trafficking, etc. Many of them are located in east Lisbon, which used to be the worst area of Lisbon, with a very high percentage of public housing.

Hello Kelly, thank you! The Jacaranda trees usually bloom about now, May-June, some streets are already looking like a slightly psychedelic painting. 😁 I filmed this video on the 5th of April, so it was a bit early for the explosion of color. 😊 Regarding the wall, yes there is something importante there! It was an aqueduct, known as the São Bento Street aqueduct, part of the Lisbon Aqueduct. It included an arch that was moved to another area. If you do a google image search of "Arco de São Bento" you'll see it.
Ah, looks like they've built a new house next to Rua São Bento 204 since my last visit. There used to be a mural painting of a face with a nose ring on the gable end. Nice to peek inside the Basílica da Estrela. I've been outside a couple of times, and there was a mass in progress on both occasions. For all the spelendor of the church, Dona Maria is criticised in a book I read recently for the extravagant spending at a time when they didn't manage to balance the budgets. Apparently, following young José's death in 1788 it wasn't just the budgets that were unbalanced.
I remember that painting! That orange/yellow building at 28:37 is where it used to be. About 8-9 years I was very much into photography, one of my best photos ever was a juxtaposition of that face and one of the palace's guards. Queen Maria suffered from significant mental issues, which began even before her son died. By early 1792 she was deemed insane, but even in 1786 her mental deterioration was clearly noticeable. Two of her sisters had similar conditions, possibly caused by their incestuous ancestry... Up until the mid 1780s Maria is considered to have been a good ruler, but then things fell apart.
Yes, it's a huge tradition here! 😃 The use of tiles (known as "azulejos") in Portugal can be traced back to the time when the Moors ruled the Iberian Peninsula (711-1492). However, it was during the 15th century that the art of tile-making flourished in Portugal. Over time, the use of tiles expanded beyond palaces and noble residences to churches, monasteries, and ordinary homes. Tiles became a popular means of architectural decoration and a way to protect buildings from dampness. They are often used to tell stories, depict historical events, or showcase religious scenes. 😊

Hello Kelly, thank you! The Jacaranda trees usually bloom about now, May-June, some streets are already looking like a slightly psychedelic painting. 😁 I filmed this video on the 5th of April, so it was a bit early for the explosion of color. 😊
Regarding the wall, yes there is something importante there! It was an aqueduct, known as the São Bento Street aqueduct, part of the Lisbon Aqueduct. It included an arch that was moved to another area. If you do a google image search of "Arco de São Bento" you'll see it.

Ah, looks like they've built a new house next to Rua São Bento 204 since my last visit. There used to be a mural painting of a face with a nose ring on the gable end.
Nice to peek inside the Basílica da Estrela. I've been outside a couple of times, and there was a mass in progress on both occasions. For all the spelendor of the church, Dona Maria is criticised in a book I read recently for the extravagant spending at a time when they didn't manage to balance the budgets. Apparently, following young José's death in 1788 it wasn't just the budgets that were unbalanced.
I remember that painting! That orange/yellow building at 28:37 is where it used to be. About 8-9 years I was very much into photography, one of my best photos ever was a juxtaposition of that face and one of the palace's guards.
Queen Maria suffered from significant mental issues, which began even before her son died. By early 1792 she was deemed insane, but even in 1786 her mental deterioration was clearly noticeable. Two of her sisters had similar conditions, possibly caused by their incestuous ancestry... Up until the mid 1780s Maria is considered to have been a good ruler, but then things fell apart.
