My 2013 Lexus CT200h (same engine as the Prius) got a check engine light. Diagnosed as a cylinder one misfire and turned out to be a head gasket leak. After freaking out about the cost of fixing it ($7000 from the dealer, $4100 from an independent Toyota shop), I stumbled across these folks on Craigslist. Watched a few videos and it was clear to me that they are absolute experts. I called, they came out over the weekend and did the entire job in a few hours in front of my house. Nicest guys, honest, vastly less expensive than the alternatives, and absolutely competent. I'd taken care of the car well, and there were no other issues with the engine. They told me so and didn't try to upsell unnecessary additional work (although they were prepared with a replacement for anything on the spot if my car had needed it.) I trust these folks absolutely, for their integrity, their efficiency, their competence and their pricing. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

@@rubdulbah3201 I drove my 2013 Prius V, the same engine as the CT200h, to Gasket Masters' main shop near Stockton CA. They gave me a $400 discount for coming to them. In the end I paid right about $1,100 for the head gasket and refurbed EGR cooler, including a $32 up charge to replace the spark plugs while they were in there. If they had driven to me mobile mechanic style the work was quoted at a little under $1,600 but I'm broke so I drove to them since my head gasket was only just starting to go and hadn't gotten very rattly yet. From my research and calling around other shops this was far and away the best deal. Everyone else wanted at least $3k to 4k.

Just got our 2012 CT200h repaired 8/1/2020, we called & these guys were so accommodating with all their supplies, scheduling, & the cost in comparison can not be beat! Walt did a phenomenal! Job well done, let alone fast efficient, & even explained as we looked in from time to time. His work cannot be surpassed by anyone I’ve seen in UA-cam trying to attempt this job. I would highly recommend gasket masters!!! Our car runs smoother with no more violent shudders on start up or take off.

Highly recommended! My Prius had the horrible startup knocking one morning and continued even after trying some of the other fixes first, they didn’t work. I watched lots of videos on the knocking issue and will save you time, it’s the head gasket. I called and they came to my location and completed the head gasket replacement in my Prius in a few hours! It’s running like a champ again! Thank you guys for providing this service, I wasn’t experienced enough or had the time to follow your DIY video but it’s cool you guys did that for others to follow.

My 2012 Prius V with 140k miles had the exact same symptoms that Walt described in the video. My local mechanic wanted $4K just to diagnose the problem. The Toyota dealer quoted $5-6k but said they couldn’t tell me what it was until they opened it up. Thankfully I stumbled across this video and Walt came out to my house to replace the head gasket at a MUCH more reasonable price point. He showed up on time and finished the job before lunch. I highly recommend these guys. Thank you Walt!

Looks like I'll be calling you guys shortly for my Prius. Had my hybrid battery replaced with a reconditioned one about a year ago from a mobile independent guy and saved quite a bit. And it's all he does, staying super busy. Great business to be in, really.

Wish we had a shop like yours around here in Eastern North Carolina. I ended up replacing my 3rd Gen engine with a 4th Gen engine, thinking that maybe the 4th Gen would withstand future head gasket problems. After watching your other videos, I'm not so sure that'll be enough.... now I've just got a P0343 Camshaft Position Sensor High Voltage code. Thinking it might be something as simple as the timing chain being off. Thanks for your videos.

Originally left a great review about these guys, but, not long after I paid for a gasket repair my vehicle started experiencing the same issues, I had no worries because I had a warranty (ha) call the guy on this video and he set an appointment with me and assured they’d be there to take care of the issue (ha). Told me he’d be there on the morning never showed call him he said that he was in LA. And that his team would be there around 3:30pm. That time came and flew by and now I’m realizing all the reviews he got from everyone else saying that he’s a con artist and will stop answering your calls is true. Like many have said before me BEWARE.

Well if gasket master guys are con srtists, they are still very helpful to DIY'ers by uploading their detailed video about prius head gasket replacement. It's absolute best video out there showing step by step for DIY'er prius owners who want to do head gasket replacement by themselves. I doubt a real con artist would make such a helpful video from which they profit nothing. Head gasket is pretty intensive job no matter who does it, and head gasket blowing again could be secondary symptom of some other problem with Prius engine. Warranty in such situation would mean they would have to take responsibility not only for their job, but for condition of rest of the engine. That's why some people choose to replace the entire engine rather than do just head gasket replacement.

I followed it and did my head gasket with the whole motor out bc I was originally planning to put a 4th gen 2017 motor in my 3rd gen prius V...ended up not doing the swap so did the head gasket on my garage floor bolted the motor to the trans and fired it up...1 week of driving and no issues at all...I'd probably do side jobs on this bc other mechanics charging upwards of $1300 and up...lol 👍🏼👍🏼 save $$ do it urself or call these guys

    Good day sir.
My 2012 prius makes knocking and rattling noise when ever the engine starts and its charge the Hybrid Battery. On stand still or moving slowly. If I'm speeding the noise stops. I don't have any check engine light on. Scan does not show any issue.
I have changed the 4 plugs.
Cleaned the injectors, PCV valve, Intake manifold, throttle body, egr valve all cleaned. After cleaning all these the knocking and rattling sound remains.
It's comes one at slow speed only when the engine is on and hybrid battery is charging. If I match my pedal hard and speeds, the sound stops.
I noticed that this does not happen on cold start. It happens when the car is warned up.
When I removed the inlet manifold to clean it. I looked inside the engine. I noticed that all the inlet and outlet valves are carbon coated expect the cylinder to the extreme right. I noticed that, that cylinder inlet and outlet valves are half inch clean on top.
My coolant doesn't short and the engine oil does not show any signs of water in it. The car is now 140,000 miles on it.
My location is Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬.
If its blown head gasket, is there a way I can check it?

It was probably your fly wheel. It most likely cracked. The noise goes away when you speed up.

    @greatogbuagu1370 3 роки тому

Pls I seriously need your help. My location is Nigeria. There are no mechanics here who can really work on hybrid cars.
For the past 2 months, I have been having rattling and knocking sound. With no error codes. I cleaned the whole egr systems, cleaned injectors, changed spark plugs, cleaned throttle body, cleaned PC valve, Cleaned inlet manifold, I have oil catch can installed for about 5 months now. Upon all these, the car is still rattling and making knocking sound. Especially when it's charging the HV battery.
If I drive fast the sound disappears.
My coolant doesn't shot, my engine oil doesn't have water in it but I noticed the oil does shot. So I can't say it's blown head gasket.
And today this new incident happened.
Now if I remove the 12v battery head for 5 minutes and put it back the car starts on ev only after 3 to 5 seconds then car trys to start the engine and the ready light goes off and check hybrid system light and other error lights comes on on dash board.
Is this a sign that my engine knocked?
Will Changing the crankshaft position sensor solve the issue?
    What exactly should I do?
The car has 145,000 miles on it.
The error codes it shows using toyota techstream now are P0335, P0A0F, C1259, C1310

Check out their video on why the head gasket tends to go bad on hybrids. When I had mine replaced, they mentioned that the 135K mark was not unusual for needing head gasket replacement, and suggested you might think of it as an expected maintenance task at this mileage.
