    Hi, I visited Istanbul in 2022, 2023 and checked 2024 for one of my friends who will visit Istanbul in June 2024. Compared to 2022 prices are up 3-4 times... Turkey is definitely not a cheap destination anymore. But I have to admit it worth to visit anyway

      Oh, yeah! Back then it was relatively very affordable, not as much anymore, but if one knows where to eat people can still make it with 50-60 usd a day per person (experiences, places to visit, food, transportation).

    I was in Istanbul two weeks ago and things have become very expensive since my last visit. Also Berry not every tourist comes with Usd or euro as many travel vloggers tend to think. I am South African and my currency is almost as bad as the lira so its expensive to visit the sites. I also tend just visit these sites without going inside and eat a heathy better priced breakfast on thee Asian side which gets me through to supper. I think a nice video would be sites that are free or at a reasonable price. Staying on the Asian side is also more affordable for the budget traveler. Thank you for a nice video

    The prices have seriously shot up since the last time I visited in July 2022. Just as an example… in 2022, £1 = 20tl… the price of a portion of Kofte from the famous SultanAhmet Koftecisi was 60tl (£3)… but in 2024, £1 = 40tl and the price for a portion is 280tl (£7)… an increase of more than twice as much… this is just a very basic example of food… but in many places the equivalent has gone up by 2/3x. I feel sorry for the ppl in Turkiye… it must be very difficult. In’sha’allah things will improve by the end of the year as the inflation should drop significantly.

I wàs in Turkey in 21 to 22 but had over 60 museum card as had temp 1 yr resident card. But saw fares food and everything go up overnight. It s defiitely not cheap at all anymore unless you want yo eat a small kebab everyday. I found tge minimarket prices right up too.

      @@lbunnygordon1133 I’m from the north in the U.K. so our prices tend to be significantly cheaper than the south like London… but even our supermarkets haven’t shot up like Turkiye. Like for example Sunflower Oil had gone up to like £11.5/5 Litres… but even that’s come down to more or less what it used to be. There’s def inflation in the U.K… but nothing as crazy as Türkiye. Most recently a steak meal cost me £50 in Turkiye… that would prob cost me max around £25-30 in the U.K. at a good place.

    I am an American living in Boston and I travel to New York at least once a year.A one week trip to New York City usually costs around 2,281 us dollars for one person and
    4,561 us dollars for two people. This includes accommodation, food, local transportation, and sightseeing. A two week trip to New York City on average costs around $4,561 for one person and $9,123 for two people.Do you call Istanbul expensive? new york is more expensive, but there is one thing, when we look at the Turks living in Istanbul, we get a more decent salary and can enjoy entertainment.I have been to Istanbul, but it is a pity that people in their countries lose the value of their money and due to high inflation, Istanbul seems expensive both for local people and for tourists. I was in Istanbul 2 years ago, the prices increased by 150 percent.Their salary loses purchasing power due to inflation.But despite this, Istanbul is relatively cheap for tourists compared to many other cities in the world, such as Paris and London. Please reply to my comment. Thanks.

    I find the short term rentals in Istanbul to be a rip off. Many scams using Airbnb and the prices are through the roof when you want something decent for a family. Prices for rentals are much more expensive than other countries we have visited and the quality is lacking.
    Just my personal opinion, but it is definitely a consideration my family takes into account when thinking about a return to Türkiye.

    As a German citizen with a Turkish background who's traveling to Türkiye regularly I can confirm prices in Istanbul have skyrocketed, especially between 2022 and 2024.
    A full dinner in a meat restaurant with starters and appetizers, three main courses, dessert, all drinks for two people (the table was full and there was no place on the table to place a tea glass) was about 14€ and it took us two hours to finish. The same food in 2024 turns out to be around 90€ exactly two years later in 2024. A Chicken Dürüm is cheap fast food but 7€ is the same price for a Chicken Dürüm I pay in a big German city, too. And we in Germany have at least 6-7 times higher income compared to Türkiye.
    I don't pay that kind of high prices in a Turkish meat restaurant in Germany but Istanbul is trying to scam everyone.
    So, you can't eat Dürüm all day long and when you look a little western, the restaurants apply a special tourist markup which is extremely unfair. Be prepared to pay around 4 to 5 more than locals. I'm not affected by that as I do look Turkish but when you're blond or have bright eye color you're eligible for the tourist markup scam. I'm ashamed of this Turkish entrepreneur trick to scam tourists.

      It’s not a scam. Meat is extremely expensive. We just got back from Turkey from America. We bought a cattle that weighed 1 ton for sacrifice and it was $10K and cattle price in US was $4K. I don’t think it has to do with scamming. Meat is just super expensive and most of my local family who live there can’t afford to eat meat. Everything was more expensive than two years ago. I pray for the locals who make low salaries and cost of living is more than America right now.

    Berry, only watch your videos after comparing with other blockers. Thank you very much. I love Istambul, going yearly & staying in Kadikoy. This year prices in Moda or Kalamış food places are very high & more close to Cide prices , not sure about Fatih & other Euro site of the city. After I went to Balearic & Canary Islands, the prices in high touristic areas are much less in restaurants & in hotel buffet with big variety of good food. I think that people who does NOT count their money can visit Turkey in 2025 if it will be continuing unfortunately.
    PS. Why you never mention Rüstem pasha mosque ( one of the best ones & ancient coffee grinder in Spice Bazaar. This is what to see & not overpriced goodies that can be bought on Anatolian side for way much less. Why Grand basar & not Mihrimah Sultan mosques built by same Sinan - one on Euro & one on Asian side , easy to get by ferry to Uscudar ? Not many people visit those places vs touristic traps like bazaars above.
    Anyway, I only recommend your videos to all my US friends

    Haggia Sophia and Basilica Cistern were on my wish list along with Topkapi palace were on my wish list for my coming trip but not any more. It is not the cost but they now appear to be poor value for the entrance fee especially Haggia Sophia. The cistern in the video looks like a good alternative if someone can tell me how to find it. At least it can be visited in relative comfort. The Blue Mosque remains on my list and am going to add Chora Church as an alternative to Haggia Sophia. Archaeological Museum remains on my list even though part of it is closed. Obviously open to any more suggestions of places to enjoy Istanbul.

      7 USD at the MOST touristy area of Istanbul (SULTANAHMET), in an area like that, you’d pay 2 times more for a mediocre durum and half the size and portion of the one I showed, yes, you can eat with less than that in a different area of the city but the POINT of this video is that YOU should also learn where to eat IF you don’t want to leave the main tourist area but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for some bad food.

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  3 місяці тому

      Sorry but this is Türkiye, things work very different from anywhere else in the world and they do not listen to anyone else except their pockets. Just to tell you that Turkish citizens who desire to travel abroad might start paying some sort of exit tax of almost 100 usd (they already pay 5 usd) now is being expected to be raised soon to almost 100 usd and citizens are going crazy online but ofc and as always no one will listen and nothing will be done to stop that from happening, it will happen and is just a matter of time. Is not only tourists who they are bleeding with those ridiculous prices especially for entrance fees, they are also bleeding locals every single day in other aspects. This is also a place where freedom of speech is almost inexistent and if you speak against how things are you’ll get immediately targeted. Do I really want that as a non-Turk and away from my country? No. All I can do now is try to help people through my videos to understand what’s the reality of the city and you can decide whether you visit or not, I can also just help with exposing tourist traps and recommending honest places to eat at for example, or recommending places to visit for free instead of the paid ones, we’re already doing the best we can and I wish I could do more, trust me, but unfortunately I can’t and I’m on the same boat as you.

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  2 місяці тому

      Haha, tell me WHERE in Istanbul you can find a kilo of baklava for 7 usd, not even in your dreams. Baklava has always been an expensive thing to buy and now even more thanks to the inflation. Do you even know how much cost a kilo of pistachio for example? Not for nothing is known among locals as the ‘green gold’.
      Even in our local shops where we live we cannot find a kilo of baklava for less than 600 TL (18usd) and for 4 pieces it costs around 5 usd. So the one I show at the MOST TOURISTY AREA OF THE CITY is 2 dollars more than in local areas.
