    Thanks for taking the time to play, review and the great footage, much appreciated :)
    You roll for aim even when there are no bonuses in the attacks because you may still trigger a reaction on your target (e.g. if you roll brain you will trigger something on a helmet. Guardians and monsters have all kind of defensive/counter actions according to where you hit them as well). Sorry you found this unclear and even a negative of the game, this mechanic and how it ties to monsters' AI is one of the parts we are most proud of.
    We'll work on making the IP/theme come across more clearly!

    I find it to be a nice light game for our group so we dont have to fall back on UNO or Monopoly. One thing I genuinely love is the overarching play tempo and goal shift. You run around with everything and everyone being revived if they die, so you can just have fun and take risks and be stupid as you all get more powerful. Eventually someone takes the Kabula then everything on the island becomes mortal and the aggression goes through the roof right at the end (so it HAS player elimination, but only in the final sprint to the finish-line and that is brilliant).
    As for the humor, I love some of it, I dont like other bits, and about half I just dont get. It really does have some truly brilliant bits in it to balance out the bits that are phoned in.
    It is not a contender for top boardgame for us by any stretch, but it has a place on our shelf and sees play more than some of the huge epic multi-table games my group lives for.

    I found the roll aim bit was pretty intuitive as loads of the cards have defence reactions depending where the aim was? I found the combat pretty straightforward and clear from the rules compared to a lot of Ameritrash games especially. I know if I have to house rule badly explained combat mechanics in other games that’s a big turn off for me also, but I didn’t find that here. For a small team I thought the rulebook was solid.
    Why attack monsters? To level up yourself with extra body parts mainly, depending how buff the guardian is.
    We really enjoyed this one. Main bit that dragged was actually just managing boss actions is where floppy is adding and removing fire tokens etc.

      As I said in the video, there are cards that tell you to roll for aim but have no parts icon. The rulebook say that’s the part you hit but there’s no part ion on the card. I don’t have a crystal ball I’m afraid.
      You can buy all the stuff you need from the shops so why bother with the monsters.

      @@BoardGameBollocks I know - you roll aim and if you roll butt you hit butt etc. if there’s no part on your card then the roll means nothing unless there’s a part on the opponents card with a blue defense action in which case they may react to you hitting that part. If they don’t, the aim does nothing. Or if you’re being attacked it could be a defense you have via and item etc
      Cards need parts to activate the abilities etc so more parts is good.
      The one thing we found playing (3 player) is that unlike other similar games it feels like it’s designed to go pretty quick once you have the rules down. So you don’t ever do everything etc.
      Hashtags to seem to come quick, will agree with that - they feel like they should take a little longer. Maybe getting buffed up with parts enough to take on the guardian is the main thing. The other thing is that the abilities activated by the hashtags are easy to forget.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  10 місяців тому +1

      @chrisingold4590 Rules don’t make that clear. I explained that in the video and even showed a clip of the rule book.
      I’m my multiple plays no one really “buffed up” to battle the guardian as there’s a limit to how many parts you can have. They fought monsters to get them as a familio.

      @@BoardGameBollocks I saw - guess that’s how rules are tough to write as I sort-of got that bit straight off but I’ve found other rulebooks a nightmare even though friends thought they were ok! I think it’s clear from the other bit in the rule book that goes through the different coloured actions but I’d have to dig that back out again to check.
      Yup I went for parts from a monster as I had a cool item but it needed me to stock up on different stuff - also more parts can help support a familio as your max then goes to 15 but that’s not what I’ve done when I played, I went more for items and parts than familios.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  10 місяців тому +2

      @chrisingold4590 max doesn’t go to 15. The familio is a separate unit.

    I like the look of the creature it cost like $80 for base game and $250 for base game and all the extra except loke the comic they have. I don't really like buying board game that is not on Amazon but it is what it is add it to the list because why not mostly likely end up getting more Monopoly game instead anyway.

  • @hubbawillie12
    @hubbawillie12 9 місяців тому +1

    you only roll the aim die if the card instructs. all this does is have the defender look to see if it triggers any defense and for the offense to see if it triggers any bonus. other than that add attacks minus blocks, take your damage

    Once again an excellent review! I have to ask cause you’re a huge fan of Stationfall, did you ever get the minis for the game?

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  10 місяців тому +4

      I didn’t. I want to but there’s always another game that looks interesting.

    • @chrisingold4590
      @chrisingold4590 10 місяців тому +2

      Stationfall minis are almost essential but they need painting - then they make it quick to see who’s where on the space station and there’s also things like the characters with the officer ability have similar colour schemes etc so it’s just so much quicker to work out what’s going on.
      That said I seem to remember reading they were going to make/add some standees for it. That would do also.

    Thanks for the Review. The games "humor" makes this a hard pass for me. I don't mind dirty jokes, but there's dirty and then there's just eye-roll cringe.
    Excellent job as always.

    • @chrisingold4590
      @chrisingold4590 10 місяців тому +2

      The cards in the vid are probably the cringiest ones in the nsfw expansion - there are actually some really funny (ie genuinely funny) cards and encounters - and items - a lot of which aren’t dirty jokes at all. They colour coded the cards so you can filter out content based on who’s playing.
      I call that out as I’m with you - most so called ‘edgy’ humour in games is actually just crap and cringey and I find that off putting. Jokes still need to be funny after all. One thing I like about this game is that (pictured cards aside) it’s actually a lot smarter than that.

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  10 місяців тому +2

      The game didn’t come across as smart. Just felt like a mess of idea wrapped around a few mechanics with no cohesion or link to the theme.

    I watched a Dice Tower playthrough of this and it looked a mess and they had issues as well. They played half way or so through the game. Its good to see if a game is not worth a purchase. Thanks for the review.

      One day you look up, and you've got 60 games and a collective 400,000 miniatures arriving on your doorstep. And most of them aren't even good games.
      That being said, I didn't expect Cthulhu: Death May Die to be as awesome as it is. Same thing with Night Cage, but both of those are Kickstarters.

      @@BoardGameBollocks Oh, it wasn't a board game. Someone was making a brand new game for the Sega Megadrive, with the cartridge/box and everything. I thought it sounded like an awesome idea.. in 2019. I learnt my lesson.

    Played this with some friends and tbh it was a let down. Like you said, rules were unclear, there was no real direction and was just a bit boring as it didn't feel like there was any reason to do anything in the game. Also very disappointed in the miniature quality. Definitely give this a miss
