For Real, this is Awesome Sauce, i hope they put more levels because i love the redone Textures and the Flickies (if only they put more than just one animal and place them in and off the trees (not just the ground) or with little holes on walls making artificial shelters for them, just to make them more cute and lively once they come out near you. (Hehehe... Coconut homes)
Can't wait to see more things coming to this ROM modification. This build alone already provided a handful of changes that give Sonic 1 a noticeable change in experience with the different zone architectures, palettes, badniks, and soundtracks. This is a good example of what a demo to a ROM modification or fan game should be. Thank you for the upload and have a great Friday JP
I know for me personally for the longest time, it was because oh yeah these are just using the same levels basically 1, and 2 music is HORRID, ear piercing, painful to listen to. That being said after I played the SMS 1 and 2 remakes completely changed my mind, helps a lot when the music is better. Also saying that because that was also a deterrent for other SMS games, a major factor especially since Sonic as a franchise is known for being one of the best franchises in terms of music. Triple Trouble, Chaos, etc but the remake of Triple Trouble by Noah Copeland is FRICKEN AMAZING! So looking forward to this remake of it, hopefully it has more characters like the other one does.
YESSS!!! I'm so happy that this mod is still being worked on! It looks even better than the last demo! Marble Zone looks incredible! I can't wait for the next update!!
I love how the ost seems to take even more inspiration from the original Masato Nakamura demo soundtracks, EDIT: Also love how they tweaked the sprites so Sonic looks more like how Oshima drew him in the manuals
This has always been my head-cannon: Sonic goes from green hill to bridge to marble to bridge act 2 to jungle to spring yard to labyrinth to scrap brain to star light (because eggman escapes) to sky base and that’s it
Well, my level order is similar to this guy's, but there are more levels. 1 custom one between marble & jungle, 3 concept art ones between spring yard & labyrinth, 3 more concept art ones between labyrinth & scrap brain & 1 more custom one between starlight & sky base.
Ooooh interesting, probably should say it's the SMS version, I wasn't putting together that that's what this was, "it looks nice and all, cool they remade Sonic 1... but why not go with Mania style?" was my thought process until then. So yeah cool that someone upgraded the 8 bit SMS 1 into a 16 bit game.
This isn't just the 8-bit version (Marble + the End of Demo teaser + the credits Jaypin doesn't show should indicate that), and we're intentionally going for an enhanced S1 style compared to Mania style.
@@therealinferno161 Oh cool you're one of the creators? Yeah I didn't notice Marble Garden, didn't watch whole video, but cool, so this is like a COMPLETE Sonic 1 experience, all zones from both versions? That'll be sick... granted I am pretty Sonic 1ed out, especially playing it so much for my gaming channel. I get that, fine to not go with Mania, I was just thinking that way when I thought it was just 16 bit Sonic 1. Thought nice that they added content to Green Hill that wasn't there before, breaking rocks, new paths... but it's just Sonic 1, doesn't have the oomph to separate it from say Sonic 1 Forever which is basically the definitive way to play. That was until I saw the special stages telling me oh wait it's SMS 1. To which now it's fine and makes more sense. Doesn't need to be in Mania's art style, unless it was going for a more so Sonic 1 sequel vibes and all the stages were remixed like Mania. For what it is, and if it's both versions of Sonic 1 in 1 game, this is a good idea. Again though, probably need a lot more characters, I know it's a demo, we haven't seen anything yet, just laying it on the table, to be in consideration, especially with a new mod for 1 Forever introducing Mighty and Ray. While the 8 bit SMS 1 remake also had them, 2 also had Vector and Espio, giving other characters that aren't in other versions could give your game more value, because we've played Sonic 1 who knows how many times as Sonic, and to lesser extents Tails, Knuckles, and now Amy in Forever and Origins. Metal Sonic, Charmy, take all possible classic characters into consideration. Like Noah Copeland did for Triple Trouble, making Metal Sonic, Amy, and Fang playable. Gives more value and makes it stand out more from other versions of these games that are already out there. Apologies so long, and I know not my place, just hoping to help. Especially when Sega doesn't give some of their characters more value and games, I love Metal Sonic, and Mighty became one of my favorites after Mania. Metal makes sense, he's a villain, but he's been playable before, and even in SA2 Battle, he had a unique move set to make him stand out from Sonic, Shadow, and Amy, he can be more than a copy paste Sonic if they really wanted to make him so like in Sonic 4 or Adventure DX. Especially with the mods I've seen in Forever and 2 Absolute, 3 AIR, fans have crazy good ideas to make characters stand out. Meanwhile fans have gone ham on Mighty and Ray too with mods for Sonic 1 Forever and 3 AIR, or the Sonic 2 emulation hack... again sorry so long lol, I just get overexcited, can't help myself.
I'm loving this demo, I bet it will surpassed both of the Official SMS/GG & Genesis Sonic 1 games. Btw, I wondered if that "End of Demo" Screen may hint of Jungle Zone's Act 2 Background or something else entirely.
The result of years of hard work and passion. Seriously, this hack is amazing, and even more so now than it was just 2 years ago. I really hope this gets completed someday.
Have you considered changing the color of Sonic and the hud, making it more similar to Sonic Mania? With the new music and the redesign of levels the color changes would look great. Greetings
Oh yeah s1 definitive is back! Its nice to finally see this hack return after 2 years. Unfortunately, most of the returning music is kind of a downgrade, bridge zone musically and visually taking it the worst. Hopefully in the next build they use the bridge zone music from the 2021 build.
It could be a series of Romhacks remaking 1, CD (We have CDX of course but idk much about that project) and 2 as a whole, though that would be a challenge to make.
Really not a fan of the drum snare, it's as annoying as the original one. I would much prefer the one from Sonic 3, which is more discreet. Other than that, the game looks incredible, and I hope you'll get through the whole project, playing the definitive full edition of Sonic 1 would be great! (any project for Sonic 2 ? :D)
This is the original snare used in the demo tracks, as well as plenty of other songs by the composer from the time. It's the same as the original game, although it's pitched up in the original game.

I'm glad the 8 bits games are finally getting some love, and treated like a different game instead of a lesser version of the 16 bits games.
