I’ve seen a bunch on this particular semi modular synth. It’s pretty cool, but this video really cements that the secret sauce here is your modular fx setup, it makes just about anything sound amazing. I used to think about modular synths, but now all I do is dream about building my own modular fx setup like yours to run all my current gear through.
Dude this isn't just the best East Beast demo I've seen but overall one of the best synth demo's I've seen. Really showing off the capabilities of the machine with the context of how it could be used in a track as opposed to just making noise with no context! Great work man! Really considering selling my Moog Minitaur and picking up both East Beast and West Pest. Would love to see a West Pest demo too if you can get your hands on one
I've watched a ton of videos for this and the West Pest and you did a really good job showing it off. You showed off several features that I didn't even know exist, I'm rather surprised I've not seen anyone else mention the drone mode, transpose mode for the arp, or configuring the arp to span multiple octaves! Plus on top that you managed to make some really killer music with this thing, instead of non-stop tweaking the knobs like a child with no attention span.
I think this is the best East Beast demo I've seen yet. Initially I was drawn to the West Pest because you know, Buchla on the Brain--but I have to say, that none of the demos of the West Pest have grabbed me so far. The East Beast, however, to me sounds much more gritty and interesting.
I stick my coffee in a flask when I'm working on stuff, means it won't spill if it gets knocked and keeps it warm too. Beer, however...now that's a problem!
Haha I don't want to jinx myself by saying anything about me not being clumsy and never having spilled a drink on my gear before, so I'm not gonna say it!
@@TheUnperson it is immensely fun! I mean don't expect to replace your drum machines but in its unpredictability has a similar charm to CL Plumbutter. Take it for a test drive next time you're at SignalSounds :)
That fx aid is so nice to have. I’m using clouds and a nightsky and a Eccos delay:looper Sounds amazing. But…..would love a 4hp module that can take care of all of that. Also. Always like what I’m hearing here. Great job.
Are you transposing the sequence of cam or how are you achieving this variation in pitch?? Truly lovely sounds here. It’s the only good demo of this synth I’ve seen
It’s been a while since I played with the East Beast so can’t remember the button combo for transposing the sequences but yea you can transpose using a button combo on the device.
@@RollrightKnights If I remember correctly there are a few different clock options that you can access with the green button + F#. It might be the 3rd or 4th press that activates external gate clock option.
Are you doing anything special with the outputs from the FX Aid? I'm thinking of building a similar rack and it seems like you've managed to skip an output module entirely!
In this video, because I'm using the East Beast as my sound source and it has an internal VCA, I don't really need an output module. Likewise when I'm using the OP-1 as my sound source I don't need an output module as the level is typically lower than modular level. When I use an oscillator like Rings in the rack (which has a very hot signal) then I need a VCA to tame the levels a bit. But typically I never use any kid of output module - just come straight out of whichever module is last in the chain! :)
I am yea. I did experience some issues with the power, but it's a unique problem with my specific unit which I got second-hand on ebay. I've been speaking with tech support and they're sending me out a replacement power board :)
Hey man! Quick question. If I bought another oscillator and noise module, how would I connect that to the East Beast so that it tracks with the East Beast?
@@TheUnperson Thank you! I'm sorry I'm new to this... I'd like to add another VCO to thicken up and detune the sound. Do you have any in mind? Can I run the VCO through the East Beast's filter then as well?
Totally unrelated - what are you using for recording footage and audio in your videos? One camera, separate units, a phone? you always have great quality. Even the sidechain when your voice comes on over the music is a lovely added touch.
I'm using a Canon M50 on a boom stand above the desk and editing the videos in Premier Pro. For audio I have a Zoom L12 as my audio interface recording into ableton. Thanks for noticing the lovely touches! Cheers!

This thing encourages experimentation and rewards it with unique sounds. The sequencer is real fun too!
the sequencer is my fav feature - instant fun!
I came here for the East Beast and you’re making me want a whole modular FX setup 😂 Nice sounds and review!
Haha cheers man! And if you do go down the modular rabbit hole.. my apologies! 😅
That drone sound was feckin magic, so dark and atmospheric. The random signal shape thing was very cool as well.
cheers man - cannae beat a drone!

hey man thanks for the lovely comment! I'm hoping to pick up a West Pest at some point and will defo be making a video on it when i do :)
Such a fun, peppy little mix you've got going on throughout. I could listen all day.
cheers man!
So refreshing when the gear demoer is a great musician. Always a joy to watch your videos.
Thank you - much appreciated!!
Been eyeing this and the West Pest up the past few days. This sounds really nice and right up my strasse! Cheers, Jason.
I have both and recommend the pair!
West Pest is on my wish list too. Gotta love gear that can be standalone or in the rack!
you've absolutely sold this to me - you should be on commission!
That arpeggio jam was so fun!
Also, great demo of the East Beast!
What a monster lil synth! And great tunes too :D
Instant techno, sounds great! Pretty good for drones too, and probably a good starting point for anyone wanting to get into modular hardware.
haha yes it is an instant techno box!!
Awsome to see the East Beast in your hands man. You gave a fantastic demo just now. Love it! :)
thank you!!
Master, compliments.
It seems this is one of the best options to get into modular word 🤩🤩 thanks for this amazing content
cheers man! yea it's definitely a very addictive gateway drug lol

haha i know all about buchla on the brain... there's just something so intriguing about it! Cheers man!
Another excellent video. I know you’re probably not clumsy but it makes me anxious when there’s a drink so close to electronics…

When that square wave kicked in....
my fav!!
Excellent demo, EB is a great acid and techno machine...
cheers man! Yea it really excels in these genres especially!¬
Awesome as always!...and thanks for suggesting SignalSounds, picked my Kastle Drum there :)
Excellent! How are you liking the Kastle Drum? I've been eyeing up those wee things for ages.

The FX Aid is so good - especially for it's size! That's some pretty awesome effects you have too tho :)

@@TheUnperson having problems sequencing it externally! Can't seem to get it working with Pam's 🤔

This is really good and well explained. Have you got a West Pest? If so, please do a vid about that.
Not yet... tho it's on my wish list.. hopefully soon!
The Midi parts of these devices seems pretty half fast. Otherwise a good value proposition.

You want to use the East BEast to control the pitch of the oscillator? There is a pitch output so it should be pretty easy to do :)

yea the modular is going into the RNC :)

tiny box, BIIIG SOUND
whouldnt you just do the sound from the east beast first otherwise how can you tell exactly what it sounds like?
I tend to focus more on musical applications, as there are always dozens of videos demoing the raw sounds already on UA-cam :)
🥳👍
