(Ever Night first season is great but you have to muddle through the world building. The second season was bad.) My journey to you was great and then that crappy ending.
LOVE BETWEEN FAIRY AND DEVIL!!! I'm almost 40 and no piece of fiction has captured my heart and made me giggle the way that one has. My husband has to just accept my multiple posters of them in my (home) office. I just rewatched My Journey to You again, it's soo much better on the 2nd watch after you know the truth and so can look for clues. Watching it on my big screen TV was heavenly, being able to see the visual feast in full detail. I just pretend the last 10 minutes didn't happen....
Love like the Galaxy is one of my favorite c-drama. I just don't understand her mother's hatred towards her. She was constantly undermining and humiliating her in public.They never did hold the Grandma accountable for the foolishness she did. And she got away with it because she was funny but I still saw that mess and that was not right. I recommend Legend of the Phoenix, The Story of Minglan, You are my Glory has sweet story; The Long Ballad, Ever Night and Nirvana in Fire. Goodbye My Princess wrecked me emotionally that still don't think I've ever truly recovered. Watch it if you want to cry. The Legend of Hao Lan and Royal Feast are basically two AUs of Yanxi Palace especially the former that has many of the same actors.
Me and my mum watched Love like the Galaxy twice together and both times we agreed the mother was not good at being a mother or providing guidance. It felt like she was constantly disliking the FL for not being good enough despite not being involved in her education or childhood at all. She left her with her dramatic relatively undereducated mother in law and then criticizes FL for the skills she’s developed to survive in that environment. I don’t even think FL was being taken care of in the main house but was sent somewhere else to be neglected. Her mother could’ve sent one of her trusted aides to help raise her at least, her daughter should’ve been praised for turning out as intelligent and skilled as she did. Like she acted like she just had to physically punish her daughter when she could’ve literally just been reasonable. The mother was so inflexible and intolerant of her daughter even when everyone else was praising her.
I'm on my 3rd rewatch of Love Like the Galaxy, it's sooo good. The mom...sigh. Yeah, she's definitely wrong and represents some extremes but unfortunately I know some people whose mothers were like that growing up so I didn't see her as quite as monstrous as some other audiences did. As for Goodbye My Princess...you have to read the essay "Why Li Chengyin is not a horrible protagonist" to get through it, otherwise it's unbearable.
I just finished watching the C-Drama ‘Marvelous Women’, if you’re looking for something where the girls aren’t trying to fight each other all the way to the end then I would suggest that. I feel like I learned more about Chinese culture and the importance of certain skills. And it solidified something that all women have told me growing up, always do your best to have your own as a woman!
Alright I have to clarify this real quick for Eternal Love/10 Miles of Peach Blossoms: It’s the mentor’s brother who the FL marries. His body wasn’t in-tact for some reason so his brother (the mentor) was born and his brother’s soul was put into this golden Lotus that the FL would talk to every day not knowing he could hear her the whole time. The FL gets engaged to the Emperor’s nephew who is also the mentor’s brother bc his soul goes into the Emperor’s son’s body aka the mentor’s nephew (so just to clarify it’s not her mentor. He shows up when his brother/nephew “dies” and the FL asks if he can save her husband-his brother/nephew- and he’s like “nope. Sorry.”)
Also she QianQian wasn't in love (or realized she was in love) with her mentor. The soul of Yahua was placed in the womb of the eldest son's wife and that's how he became the crown prince that QianQian was betrothed to before he was even born. Great show from 2017 and was my entry into cdramas.
Tale of Rose is AMAZING. It's a modern C drama and is helping me heal from a breakup through watching the main character. There's also some really interesting discussions about motherhood that I've never seen on any show or movie ever. It's really really good

My toddler saw a picture of Tantai Jin when she 2.5 years old and was like "I like this boy. Pretty boy. I want to meet this boy" LOLLLL he's so pretty, I get it. Someone on reddit said they were going to name their cat Tantai Jin, I'm totally stealing that idea.
Ode to joy first two seasons, nirvana in fire and story of minglan and delicious romance are by far my favorite and rewatched c dramas ever. SOO HAPPY you're making videos on c dramas. Looking forward to future videos in the future 😊
Empresses in the Palace gagged me SO BAD I start off only watching to watch 1 ep a day cuz it's so long but when the plot ramped up I would literally just take an entire day JUST TO WATCH THE SHOW Like literally peak television
Ming Lan is the best. I don't rewatch these shows cause they are so long and involved, but Ming Lan rewatchable. I think during Spring Festival they have a channel in China that just plays it as a marathon.
I agree, Minglan is the one I regularly go back to! In fact, I was just watching it last weekend. I can literally just jump in wherever and enjoy watching whatever arc that’s going on lol.
If you like Bai Lu, the actress whose shows you watch just because she's in it. You might do better giving Arsenal Military Academy a try or Legends, which was the first show i saw her in. Most of the shows she's been in have been horrible, in my opinion. But i do like her as an actress.
Her earlier period used to be so much better. Kinda miss the ol' Bai Lu😭 Now she's always playing "the fairest of them all" type of characters and that's boring ah

Finish Love Like the Galaxy, it answers a lot of questions toward the end. I've watched the series twice. Minglan was a haunting series. The Double was awesome. All these dramas are so well written. The actors are superb.
Also, I think the only ones I haven’t heard of are the 3rd and 8th drama, watched Wei Young, Who Rules the World, Ashes of Love, and Eternal Love all the way through. And this is basically why I don’t watch a whole bunch of C-dramas since the endings in the genres I generally watch make me ball my eyes out. Empress Ki was my first and too much. My friends just told me all the juicy parts. I haven’t even dove into the Manhua/Manhwa animated stuff 🤭 Edit: Eternal Love has a spinoff called “Three Lives, Three Worlds, The Pillow Book” which is about the FL niece and the big daddy of their universe. I watched it when it first came out on Viki (which is where I watch all of my c-dramas except for the ones I can find on Netflix) and of course I cried through this one too

In ten miles of peach blossom, actually, the mentor didn't get reincarnated into Ye hua! Ye hua was (spoiler) the twin brother of the mentor but he died as a baby so his dad saved him and then he got reincarnated. they were brothers, not the same person. Everybody thinks they are the same because they look the same. I never thought she fell for the mentor either... only the mentor fell for her. She actually fell for that demon prince who cursed himself to not cheat and still cheated. edit: Love your make up!
Love like the galaxy is so far my N1 cdrama I watched; I rewached it 3 times and go watch some of my fav clips/eps every now and then so I highly do recommend U finish it 😊 PS as I watched it while airing and kept up with the general opinions on MDL no one liked the mom and no one made excuses for her that was 1 point everyone agreed on even when the mom finally regrets her behaviour later on and sort of redeems herself !
New Life Begins is so good. I have watched it twice. The Legendary Life of Queen Lau, General's Lady, Ni Chang, Maiden Holmes, Heart of Loyalty, My Uncanny Destiny, and Jun Jiu Ling are also good.
Ruyi’s Royal Love breaks my heart, but I have watched it a few times because it’s so well done. Love Empresses in the Palace and Yanxi Palace too. Has anyone watched Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty? That’s another of my favorites.
At 13:06, so slight correction here, so Bai Qian's mentor is not a reincarnation but rather his twin brother. So, what happened is that a very ancient emperor had a wife who have birth to two sons, and one of them ends up dying, and the one that survives is the god of war. The brother's essence at some point is what is turned into a lotus flower that the god of war had been tending to (and even Bai Qian sort of helped him to tend to the lotus.) the lotus containing what would be Yuehua's spirit was given to a concubine who (from the heaven realm) who ends up I guess absorbing the lotus's essence (spirit), and becomes pregnant, with her son sort of being the re-incarnation of the son of the ancient emperor (god of war's brother) that had died at birth (which is why Yuehua and the god of war look pretty much the same because they are technically twin brothers.) I know this part gets confusing, and they don't really explain this until like almost towards the very end of the drama. (Oops, I already someone else just make a comment regarding this very thing, but well, here's a second lol.) Actually, if you like three lives three worlds (which is the eternal love you just mentioned here) I think you might potentially like it's sort of sequel series, which is called: Three Lives, three worlds, the pillow book, which covers the love story between Bai Fengjiu (girl always in the pink dress, and with the mark on her forehead, who became queen at the end of three lives, three worlds) and Donghua Dijun (Purple robes guy). Though a couple things to note, even though it's within the same universe as three lives three worlds, it's considered it's own story due to a lot of continuity issues from three lives three worlds (with the only continuation being that Bai Qian and Yuehua getting married (not shown.) plus some other things. Other thing to note, is that if you did not like either Bai Fengjiu or Donghua, then you might not like this one. The other one you could consider is the drama "Love in Destiny" which stars Nini as the female lead, for me at least, it kind of has the same vibe as three lives three world, and they even kind of use some of the same locations as three-lives, three-worlds, as well as some of the same characters (e.g Si Ming), and I think some of the writers and staff who worked on three lives, three worlds, also worked for love and destiny as well (though, the drama itself is not in the three-lives, three-worlds universe.) Both dramas I just mentioned have happy endings. (Though, for the pillow-book, the ending was actually open-ended, and the drama resolves the ending.)
The biggest 3 SHOULD be first ashes of Love( you can find on Viki app for free), then yanxi palace(UA-cam), then a tie the journey of the flower and princess agents. Both find on UA-cam. These also all really romantic and cute with gut ripping endings But if you want something light and cannot make you stop giggling I recommend 2 top funny dramas for me. 1. Handsome siblings- not super romantic but it’s like the drama untamed, and the main character makes the drama so funny was laughing every episode 2. The heiress-this in is on UA-cam, it’s really funny, every episode made me chuckle but the ending is quite sad nevertheless, however still recommend Anyone recommend anything for me lol.

I remember I was watching The Blue Whisper cause Dilraba Dilmurat is so famous and I wanted to see a drama of hers but could not get past the first few episodes cause her hair was so bad😭😭 Also empress in the palace is so good!! BTW Some recs I can give you: - Nirvana in Fire. Often people say its the best cdrama ever. I think the soundtrack is good and it has a lot of memorable moments in it. So many people love this drama and though personally I don't think its perfect, per say, its still very enjoyable. And it has great military/ battle scenes. - Love between fairy and devil has the same male lead as Love like the galaxy and it is so good! I usually don't watch Xianxia dramas but this one was very good. The main girl is so cute and so so sweet. There were some absolutely hilarious scenes and some actually jaw dropping moments that I did not see coming. - Also, I haven't seen anyone mention this drama- probably because its a given and most people already know about it- but if you haven't seen the untamed yet, you should totally check it out! it started of as very low budget drama so the special effects in the first few episodes are hilarious but it gets better later on. - On a different note, if you are ever bored one day and want a quick 15 episode, high quality, cdrama then you can check out reset! It's set in modern day and came out recently but keeps you hooked since the first episode.
"That drama was overall a mess; I really like it" - LOL That's cdrama for you, it's just preferable if it's "messy" like "Oh wow y'all are a mess" and not "This is poor, incoherent writing" Story of Kunning Palace - yes it was so bad but it was entertaining at least. Zhang Linghe was hot in it though, he should do more morally-grey characters. Love Like the Galaxy - please please finish it!! The mom regrets her actions and as sad as it was to see her full of regrets, it felt good to see it. I actually think it's better on a 2nd watch when you know what happens and therefore can know what to skip (jealous females who are in love with Ling Buyi...groan), and can pick up clues on the revenge plot and twists. Yes, Leo Wu is so good in this one! Till the End of the Moon - aaaaaaahh yes you love it or hate it and yes the makeup is too heavy. It's messy and suffered a LOT from censorship having to cut out things to fit into the 40-episode cutoff mandate which passed literally while this was still airing so they had to just chop off stuff from the end. The Double - It's a crime that they didn't release the background instrumental music too. I looooooved the performance of her ex-husband Shen Yurong and how her coming back messed with his head. Some other recommendations I have (some of them already mentioned by others): -Love Between Fairy and Devil: you gotta get through the first few episodes but otherwise it's so good, I was not expecting their romance to touch me so deeply but every time I watch it I am obsessed for months. -The Untamed: the first 10 episodes are slow but it's to make you invested in the characters so when shit hits the fan later, it rips your heart out. The production is low-budget but it's highly-rated because of how the rich character writing -Eternal Love of Dream: The canon story of Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua; their story in Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossom was not canon since they didn't have the rights to their story at the time. Eternal Love of Dream is based on the novel The Pillow Book, and it's much less messy and much more romantic and light-hearted than Eternal Love. Fengjiu is still innocent but not quite as annoying as her characterization in Eternal Love -One and Only + Forever and Ever: One and Only is the prequel and is SOOO sad but is in my opinion Bai Lu's best performance. After it breaks your heart, you can then watch the sequel Forever and Ever which is their souls reincarnated.

You are so right! Dramas today's plots aren't as good as they should be due to scriptwriters not being as important as actors or directors.

Ruyi’s Royal Love breaks my heart, but I have watched it a few times because it’s so well done. Love Empresses in the Palace and Yanxi Palace too.
Has anyone watched Dreaming Back to the Qing Dynasty? That’s another of my favorites.

At 13:06, so slight correction here, so Bai Qian's mentor is not a reincarnation but rather his twin brother. So, what happened is that a very ancient emperor had a wife who have birth to two sons, and one of them ends up dying, and the one that survives is the god of war. The brother's essence at some point is what is turned into a lotus flower that the god of war had been tending to (and even Bai Qian sort of helped him to tend to the lotus.) the lotus containing what would be Yuehua's spirit was given to a concubine who (from the heaven realm) who ends up I guess absorbing the lotus's essence (spirit), and becomes pregnant, with her son sort of being the re-incarnation of the son of the ancient emperor (god of war's brother) that had died at birth (which is why Yuehua and the god of war look pretty much the same because they are technically twin brothers.) I know this part gets confusing, and they don't really explain this until like almost towards the very end of the drama. (Oops, I already someone else just make a comment regarding this very thing, but well, here's a second lol.)
Actually, if you like three lives three worlds (which is the eternal love you just mentioned here) I think you might potentially like it's sort of sequel series, which is called: Three Lives, three worlds, the pillow book, which covers the love story between Bai Fengjiu (girl always in the pink dress, and with the mark on her forehead, who became queen at the end of three lives, three worlds) and Donghua Dijun (Purple robes guy). Though a couple things to note, even though it's within the same universe as three lives three worlds, it's considered it's own story due to a lot of continuity issues from three lives three worlds (with the only continuation being that Bai Qian and Yuehua getting married (not shown.) plus some other things. Other thing to note, is that if you did not like either Bai Fengjiu or Donghua, then you might not like this one. The other one you could consider is the drama "Love in Destiny" which stars Nini as the female lead, for me at least, it kind of has the same vibe as three lives three world, and they even kind of use some of the same locations as three-lives, three-worlds, as well as some of the same characters (e.g Si Ming), and I think some of the writers and staff who worked on three lives, three worlds, also worked for love and destiny as well (though, the drama itself is not in the three-lives, three-worlds universe.) Both dramas I just mentioned have happy endings. (Though, for the pillow-book, the ending was actually open-ended, and the drama resolves the ending.)
The biggest 3 SHOULD be first ashes of Love( you can find on Viki app for free), then yanxi palace(UA-cam), then a tie the journey of the flower and princess agents. Both find on UA-cam. These also all really romantic and cute with gut ripping endings
But if you want something light and cannot make you stop giggling I recommend 2 top funny dramas for me. 1. Handsome siblings- not super romantic but it’s like the drama untamed, and the main character makes the drama so funny was laughing every episode
2. The heiress-this in is on
UA-cam, it’s really funny, every episode made me chuckle but the ending is quite sad nevertheless, however still recommend

10:43 omg I can relate so much. I remember I was watching The Blue Whisper cause Dilraba Dilmurat is so famous and I wanted to see a drama of hers but could not get past the first few episodes cause her hair was so bad😭😭 Also empress in the palace is so good!!
BTW Some recs I can give you:
- Nirvana in Fire. Often people say its the best cdrama ever. I think the soundtrack is good and it has a lot of memorable moments in it. So many people love this drama and though personally I don't think its perfect, per say, its still very enjoyable. And it has great military/ battle scenes.
- Love between fairy and devil has the same male lead as Love like the galaxy and it is so good! I usually don't watch Xianxia dramas but this one was very good. The main girl is so cute and so so sweet. There were some absolutely hilarious scenes and some actually jaw dropping moments that I did not see coming.
- Also, I haven't seen anyone mention this drama- probably because its a given and most people already know about it- but if you haven't seen the untamed yet, you should totally check it out! it started of as very low budget drama so the special effects in the first few episodes are hilarious but it gets better later on.
- On a different note, if you are ever bored one day and want a quick 15 episode, high quality, cdrama then you can check out reset! It's set in modern day and came out recently but keeps you hooked since the first episode.
Ruyi's Royal Love in the palace is so so depressing, it triggered a depressive episode in me, I completed the whole thing and I regret it 😭

"That drama was overall a mess; I really like it" - LOL That's cdrama for you, it's just preferable if it's "messy" like "Oh wow y'all are a mess" and not "This is poor, incoherent writing"
Story of Kunning Palace - yes it was so bad but it was entertaining at least. Zhang Linghe was hot in it though, he should do more morally-grey characters.
Love Like the Galaxy - please please finish it!! The mom regrets her actions and as sad as it was to see her full of regrets, it felt good to see it. I actually think it's better on a 2nd watch when you know what happens and therefore can know what to skip (jealous females who are in love with Ling Buyi...groan), and can pick up clues on the revenge plot and twists. Yes, Leo Wu is so good in this one!
Till the End of the Moon - aaaaaaahh yes you love it or hate it and yes the makeup is too heavy. It's messy and suffered a LOT from censorship having to cut out things to fit into the 40-episode cutoff mandate which passed literally while this was still airing so they had to just chop off stuff from the end.
The Double - It's a crime that they didn't release the background instrumental music too. I looooooved the performance of her ex-husband Shen Yurong and how her coming back messed with his head.
Some other recommendations I have (some of them already mentioned by others):
-Love Between Fairy and Devil: you gotta get through the first few episodes but otherwise it's so good, I was not expecting their romance to touch me so deeply but every time I watch it I am obsessed for months.
-The Untamed: the first 10 episodes are slow but it's to make you invested in the characters so when shit hits the fan later, it rips your heart out. The production is low-budget but it's highly-rated because of how the rich character writing
-Eternal Love of Dream: The canon story of Bai Fengjiu and Dong Hua; their story in Eternal Love/Ten Miles of Peach Blossom was not canon since they didn't have the rights to their story at the time. Eternal Love of Dream is based on the novel The Pillow Book, and it's much less messy and much more romantic and light-hearted than Eternal Love. Fengjiu is still innocent but not quite as annoying as her characterization in Eternal Love
-One and Only + Forever and Ever: One and Only is the prequel and is SOOO sad but is in my opinion Bai Lu's best performance. After it breaks your heart, you can then watch the sequel Forever and Ever which is their souls reincarnated.

Oh my gosh, yes! Manes of glory everywhere... but occasionally there's a mane of shame that keeps your mind off the story because wow, that mane is distracting as heck.

Alright I have to clarify this real quick for Eternal Love/10 Miles of Peach Blossoms: It’s the mentor’s brother who the FL marries. His body wasn’t in-tact for some reason so his brother (the mentor) was born and his brother’s soul was put into this golden Lotus that the FL would talk to every day not knowing he could hear her the whole time. The FL gets engaged to the Emperor’s nephew who is also the mentor’s brother bc his soul goes into the Emperor’s son’s body aka the mentor’s nephew (so just to clarify it’s not her mentor. He shows up when his brother/nephew “dies” and the FL asks if he can save her husband-his brother/nephew- and he’s like “nope. Sorry.”)
