It's the morons, you see them on UA-cam, who throw themselves into oncoming cars to try and get a lawsuit; then get to limp away, when the person driving points out their camera... Because of those idiots, manufacturers are being forced to add noise - and it's RETARDED. If your momma didn't teach you to look both ways before crossing, then it's simply natural selection... If I were the judge in such cases, I'd be giving drivers medals. ;)

A lot of that noise is actually coming from the tires which would normally be masked by the engine

@@JasonWW2000 The standard Humvee engine's 200hp. 2 of these motors put much of that down with monster torque to boot. Did you not watch the video of how the quad with rider pulled it up to 28mph? How about when only one was needed to run the rat rod and even smoke the tires? Do you not know that the Humvee's top speed's around 65mph? There's not much math to do here, bud. 4 of those motors will make that Humvee like a mid-spec US market BMW 3 series... That is, peppy.
@@Kimoto504 It's 200 hp diesel which means way more torque than hp. 190 hp/380 tq. 4 electric motors would make it accelerate slower, but maybe give a higher top speed. This is assuming you ditch the stock transmission and transfer case. The biggest problem using these particular motors is that Zero doesn't have any way to operate 4 motors off of a single controller. Rich would probably have to go through some aftermarket motor controllers. If you did all that it might be as fast as it is stock, but that is not very impressive. If I were going to convert it to electric I would want to bump up the power to make it noticeably quicker. You may have forgotten, but on the rat rod he kept the manual transmission which allowed him to have more torque multiplication and that is what allowed him to spin the tires. He's not going to have the transmission if he tries to use four of the Zero motors. Then there are other problems going that route such as finding four of the same motor and battery packs. That could get super expensive. It would be much easier to just drop in a single high-powered motor and build a new battery pack. You could run a hi power rear Tesla Drive Unit where the transfer case would normally mount so that the axles run front and rear. You can replace the open differential in it with a limited-slip unit and send power to the front and rear axles. I've seen this done before and it is probably the most cost-effective and would give noticeably better performance.
The best bit is he can easily start with two motors. A motor for each driveshaft, test then go from there. Modify the housings to piggyback the motors, boom four. Again for 6 then play with diff gears/tyre sizes 😍

Like other winches, the hook is likely pulled to a frame member. The thing hanging is just a flag me thinks
It might be possible to put something it into the nose to hook it onto when it's not in use. It definitely looks unfinished swinging under the chassis.
I was thinking the same thing.. The rider is going for one helluva launch if that dangling hook gets snagged on something at speed.
That's why they get hooked to the frame.

People buying used zeros for projects will drive up resale value of zeros which makes buying a new zero more attractive.

You could reduce the unsprung weight problem by putting the motor higher on the swingarm. Putting it even say a third of the way up towards the pivot would reduce the bouncing you're getting on the trails. Maybe a bracket that puts it up under the seat and as close as possible to the pivot could improve the rear traction on rougher surfaces. Awesome work guys :)

I have an old 1968 M725 i would love to do just this too. Just work and budget are in the way.
Pretty certain how it would be nearly impossible to home-engineer even a two axel electric motor system (to work in sync under variable conditions), let alone four motors.
Unless it's pre-made it would be like that racing pod in Star Wars where the engines decouple on the starting line and go flying everywhere. xD

I ride a 2021 YFZ450R SE and dabble in the atv community alot so i have to say this...... this quad is loved by many! Its such a amazing idea to build one yourself being that if tesla actually sold these they would sell like chicken tenders even from the gas motor lovers. I would hope to own one someday so keep up the great work and know the atv riders love this!

@@mototoad1242 You say it can't be done, yet we have a rover on mars, and this guy designed, created, and fabricated a 102+ mph electric atv in a garage from the innards of an electric superbike and the frame of a yamaha raptor 700. literally all you need to do is put an arched metal bracket on each side connected to the frame, just like kuledoob said.
