      I think Arabic and French have something in common.

    • @alizouaoui5203

      +David McGinnis I'm fluent in both, and I think that they are two worlds apart: I'm not talking about the obvious (different family languages even though french as a latin language has obviously more in common with arabic than english do), but even the kind of "world view" that they imply somehow. Though, in that sense they have in common the fact that those "world views" are so different from what a foreigner would expect.
      So for instance, the french is so rich in verb tenses (something like a dozen or so) while the French aren't really seen as hardworking people :) Arabic in the other hand is a "verbose" language (something around 10 times more than english!) while Arabs aren't necessarily viewed as prone to "discussion" (well, unless it's in arabic :) )
      On a more controversial note, one may argue that french is more "patriarcal" than arabic since there is more feminine pronouns in arabic than in french (there are plural feminine pronouns in arabic and no such thing in french).

    Arabic : أعطيتمونيها
    English: you gave it to me
    5 words in english can be melted into one in arabic, that's one of many reasons that makes arabic totally different and hard to lean but everyone must agree that it's beautiful and rich and only people who speak it will feel that

    If U talk about mastering Arabic, it literally takes life-time and still learning Arabic... I am native Arabic from Saudi Arabia.. during High school I was doing very good with my Arabic studies but I was very poor in English.. as I started college with five years of intensive engineering studying totally in English.
    My language skills in English had improved in some area of Grammar and Basic linguistic principles more than those skills counterpart in Arabic. So now day, I am working in improving my Arabic Language even that I am native still find so many things to learn.

    Arabic has a complete set of alphabetical sounds that a mouth can possibly make. As I always tell people that Arabic is the "MP3" of other languages, you can say in few words what others languages would need to say in few phrases.

    Dear friends, I am from syria, Arabic is a heavily inflected language, and it belongs to Afro-Asiatic branch, just like hebrew, assyrian, aramaic, syriac. Arabic is some what different from Indo-european languages in terms of semantics and syntactics, BUT it is really an easy language to catch and learn.

    I am native Arabic speaker & I know a little bit English. So, I may have an idea about the difference between my language and the English Language.
    Actually, the Arabic word is like liquid substance , but the English word is like rigid substance. i.e. Arabic language have the facility to derive from the root word many derivatives. the Arabic root word is like a water that will take the shape of the template in which it is contained (more that 120 template for the same root word!). each derivative or template will have different meaning of the other one, or it will point to the same meaning but in different degrees.
    the English on the other hand is not like this. The English word is rigid. if you want to derive a meaning from the English word you should add prefix or a suffix to the beginning or to the end of the word, respectively. but the body of the word itself will still the same.

    Learning Modern Standard Arabic is like learning Latin in Southern Europe in the middle ages. Everybody thought they were speaking Latin and the elite tended to use Latin but in reality they were already using different languages at home: Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, etc. So if you learn MSA, you will be able to read the papers and talk with the elites but you still have to struggle to learn Egyptian, Morroccan, Algerian, Levantine Arabic, Gulf Arabic, Iraqi Arabic, etc. MSA may help in the way that knowing Latin helps you to learn Spanish and French. A little because you know the origin, but not really that much because the language has evolved into a different language.

    • @Imaneiyu19
      @Imaneiyu19 8 років тому +12

      +maría sierra U r right but there is an only difference that exists : European people cannot understand and speak Latin but any Arab in The middle east or in the north or Africa speaks Standard Arabic fluently so don't need to struggle with arabian dialects

    • @mariasierra6165
      @mariasierra6165 8 років тому +3

      True, Southern Europeans cannot understand and speak Latin TODAY but in the middle ages they did. Give MSA a couple centuries and people will not be able to speak it. As a matter of fact in some circles it's already happening.

    well is not that different in term of the structure
    example:
    I went to the market
    أنا ذهبت إلى البقالة
    أنا = I
    ذهبت = went
    إلى = to
    البقالة = the market
    الـ = the
    بقالة = marke
    they eat food
    هم يأكلون الطعام
    we went yesterday
    لقد ذهبنا يوم الأمس
    you will go to play football
    أنت سوف تذهب للعب كرة القدم

  • @MrStarmilano

    That's not ture sir..
    I'm a Native Arabic Speaker..
    The Sentences in Arabic are 2 types:
    - starting with noun
    - starting with verb
    and both of them are correct but it will change the grammar a little bit.
    (in your example):
    -The red ball that I watched hit the wall
    in Arabic (just to focus to the order):
    -The ball red that I watched hit the wall. (Start with noun)
    الكرة الحمراء التي شاهدتها تضرب الحائط.
    -I watched the ball red that hit the wall. (Start with Verb -in Arabic-)
    شاهدت الكرة الحمراء التي تضرب الحائط
    So I guess you hate the language because it is so hard as you think but that's not true. Every thing can be learnt by practicing.
    I don't imagine how is it hard to learn German but until now I learnt the basic level in just 2 months.
    Also, the best thing in Arabic is having 2 tenses ONLY in Grammar. Unlike other languages.. These two are: Past and non-past tenses.
    TRY TO LEARN IT. BUT FIRST DON'T LISTEN TO THE MYTHS :)

    Let me comment on the first part of this video. I am a native Arabic speaker and I can say that the structure is not that different. For example, if you want to say "The red ball that I watched hit the wall" you would say in Arabic (read the sentence from left to right):
    الكرة (the ball) الحمراء (the red one) التي (that) شاهدتها (I watched it) صدمت (hit) الحائط (the wall).
    So, the structure is of course different but not that much !

    A question to non-Arabs who are currently learning Arabic (advanced) or already fluent. Do you think that Arabic is romantic language or full of emotions? (expressions) I'm native Arabic speaker myself (Saudi Arabia - hijazi
    ajdi where Arabic have originated from) and I strongly believe that certain languages make us more rational whilst others makes more emotional or to be prices, shift\influence our way of thinking.
    Personally, I think Arabic is really full of 'expressions' since historically speaking writing poetry was the only thing Arabs in Arabian peninsula were able to master since poetry emerged as the highest form of artistic expression among the Arabs. The Arabic language developed to be very fluid and rhythmical, making it a perfect language to write poetry in. English is sort of neutral language (my opinion not backed up by any factual data) Finnish in the other hand is very efficient and precise, I wish if I can learn Finnish to strengthen my rationality. Alas, I can't do that.

      I think Arabic has that rare potential of both, I studied hundreds of scripts at school, each one of them can lack emotion and state facts like a wall of bricks; but in an other script you can find Arabic blooming with emotion, the Arabic vocabulary is huge and can provide you with any type of literature you need.

    I agree .. a native Arab speaker
    I would say that sentences could start with verbs or nouns
    جملة فعلية و جملة اسمية
    well done

    Arabic language is difficult because every word has several synonyms
    for exemple:
    The sea: 26 synonyms in arabic.
    Sword : 65 synonyms.
    LOVE: 08 synonyms.
    The Rain: 14 synonyms.
    Wind : 30 synonyms.
    But it is the most beautiful language in the world

    Yeah .. Arabic is hard .. And actually in Egypt people started forgetting how to speak formal Arabic. it's hard for me to pronounce the (خ) which is maybe the (kh) in English. That's because i don't use it much! Lol! "I'm Egyptian by the way" 😓 ok i feel ashamed that people now actually don't know how to read or write in Arabic "some of them! Not all" and that's just because they study in English with foreigner teachers. I study in Arabic that's why i can read in Arabic "not so good and fast" and i can write in arabic "properly" ... But for those arabs who leave it behind it's really shame on them .

    i'm an arab, even i find arabic to be tough, it's not a language you can learn in a year or 2, you have to spend a lot of time (6 years or more) in order to be ale to read an arabic book and way more if you want to write one.

    • @sayf_m

      wait, are you reading it with consonants? because 99% of books are without consonants so you have to already know how the words are read

    its always so funny to me when english speakers try to use arabic words like Ain (ع) XD
    but yeah in general arabic is very rich language and whats even more amazing to me that there is about 9 sounds in arabic just like Ain (ع) that does not exist in english where there are only two in english that does not exist in arabic which are the G as in golf and the V as in video
    but non the less english is a very easy language to learn which is awesome but on the other hand to me arabic is way more accurate , but i would definitely chose a world wide language to be english not arabic , maybe in terms of different sciences and such arabic can be very good and accurate but in terms of everyone having to learn it i see why it can be difficult
