I have watched dozens of your videos, but this one was an absolute pleasure! Your mom is awesome, and you looking into the camera when she asked to do the philo dough, PRICELESS! LOL!
I learned how to make this in Grease. I'm Italian & grew up with Greeks as my best friends. They make homemade filo & they make it look so easy. I use frozen filo. They use spinach, green onions, feta cheese and cottage cheese. Fresh dill, Eggs & a cup of oil. I cut the oil down to a bit under a 1/2 cup, because you have to put oil between the filo sheets. When done baking it I dump the extra oil into an empty coffee can. So, my Italian family loves this dish. I make it every Easter. A huge pan. Then, the rest of the meal is all Italian. I think I'll surprise my Mom & make this today. It's so yummy. It taste so good cold the next day. When I was in Russia I learned how to make Russian fried potatoes, they put mushrooms & dill in them. They fry the potatoes slices in butter add mushrooms & fresh dill. They serve them with Sour cream. The best potatoes Iv ever eaten. We adopted our baby from Russia just in time. Putin closed Adoption to Americans. Russian people cook with a lot of butter. They are warm & welcoming people. Love your channel. I enjoyed watching you & your beautiful Mom make this recipe. Have a beautiful blessed day.
Cooking is such a great bonding activity and a great way to keep traditions alive. My Grandmom had me baking with her as soon as I could stand and when my little cousin came along it became all 3 of us and now I have a nephew and I started baking with him when he could stand on a chair without falling. It's something I cherish. There is sometime really special about doing something the same way for generations.
You and your lovely Mother Rock!... on so many levels.... I am 71 years old and thought I knew just about everything about a lot of things. Ha! John, thank you for posting this video. I had only ever made this once about 30 years ago when I was not very sure of the technique. Your video gave me the confidence to make it again and it turned out delicious! I felt covered in butter with phyllo pieces all over the place so I need more practice but it was all worth it! One question: what size pan were you using? I used 9x13 and my pieces look much higher than in your video so I’m thinking I should have used the next pan size up.
Love the team work. I really love spinach pie and will have to make this recipe soon. What a delicious meal all by itself. The tips are also very helpful. Once again, perfectly done! Many thanks!
I learned to do this a little differently. It's fun to try different versions... same ingredients can taste so different... like cutting a sandwich diagonally or straight... or eating open face!
Love your recipes and your mum is so sympathetic! Just a friendly tip from a greek gal: Use red onions along wit spring onions and saute them in extra virgin oil. Also, avoid butter between the fyllos, use olive oil instead. And last, but not least, my secret ingredient in the spinach mix: cumin. It elevates all flavors! Cheers!

John, I really enjoyed your video with your mum... like I enjoy ALL your videos and awesome creations! I'm absolutely addicted to your channel! I was blown away when I heard you're Greek - I'm Greek too! p.s. Nice to meet your mum!
Absolutely right recipe I do mine at add differently I add olive oil with the butter when I used to love do or make my own do e. Extra virgin olive oil 1 cup to or sticks of butter got2b Land O'Lakes salted butter it just comes out much tastier also I don't add lemon and I just mix the eggs in with the feta cheese I forgot why I forgot why she taught me that way but like I said this is a way they did it in the mountain in Greece it's a very wonderful recipe every bite is absolutely delicious
I made spanakopita today with some added Parmesan cheese and a cup of ricotta cheese and less eggs. It was delicious but I will try your recipe next time as a pie. I like the fluffy eggs and lemon addition. Very nice video! Looks so tasty👍😁
Hi there. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Please posting more recipes such as your mom Mediterranean salad. Good sense of humor and ... she's so lovely.
Your mom is AMAZING! And you look SO HAPPY working alongside her! You can truly see the love between you in the video. Question.......does your mom know how to make the filo dough from scratch? Might she do a video on that? It's becoming increasingly harder for me to find it in my local grocery store. Oh, and by the way, where did your mom get that COOL buttering brush??? It looks like a giant foundation brush one uses for makeup! NEVER seen a brush like that! I want one!

Beautiful Mom and what a wonderful experience for you to get to cook with her. Great recipe.
I made this and brought it to some people I work with and the reviews are in... Two thumbs up!! Great job..I love your videos and your workspace and now your Mama! Oh, and PS...I love when you spill stuff. I have a small Linzer Tart business and in general you're the only one I watch and have learned so so much from you! Thank you!!
Was trying to upload a pic of mine but it won't let me.. darn it!
John! Thank you for helping me with this dish:) I used to live in Astoria/Queens NY, a predominately Greek neighbor. Now living in the UK I just wanted to make something that reminded me of my home in US.
I love how you look at your mom with so much love and respect 😇 not all guys have that for their mommas
Way of making this pie is my favorite. I love this dish. I use to go to a restaurant named Cafe Michael in Las Vegas.
Omg she adores her son...you can see it in her eyes🤗. Awesome recipe easier than I imagined.
Your mom is so pretty! Very sweet! Very nice to see family cooking.
Omg! I love your mom in the kitchen with you! Looks delicious! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
love how your mom looks at you, with so much love and pride!
Hi, John's Mom! Thanks for sharing this recipe with us! Thanks also for teaching John so well!
I just made this for the first time . It was Amazing!!!!!!! Thank you !!!
Hi there. Thanks for sharing the recipe. Please posting more recipes such as your mom Mediterranean salad. Good sense of humor and ... she's so lovely.
I am from Greece and i found your videos.. OMG you are look like with my friend!!!
I’m new to your channel and love the tutorials. Your mother is great! I really appreciate her input.
Sweet. God bless you both. Culinary skills in your genes 🧬
Love seeing your mom. And the dish made looks fantastic!!
I want one!
