Another great video, Aaron. I realize leaving out Z-Wave because of licensing and frequency regulation requirements helped them cut the cost, but if HA is going to get traction and become a mainstream device, it would help novices to have a device with every radio in it. I would like to see a video on how to install the Z-Wave board. Another great video. Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah I agree with you! This was their first attempt at designing their own hardware, so hopefully version 2 will include a Z-Wave radio. Ok great!!

Great video. Lots of honest comments and criticisms. I wonder how its performance compares to the Blue. I suspect the Blue wins but is more expensive.
Thank you for the feedback! I think you are exactly right. The Blue will outperform it, but costs more and doesn't have a ZigBee radio.

Fantastic video. I heard conflicting information about the Power Supply though. Some have listed it as 12V 36Watt, which is a 3Amp PSU, and some have said it is 2Amp, which would be 24Watt. Can you confirm 100% if it is 24Watt or 36Watt? The Home Assistant Blue was just a case around an Odroid board. The Yellow is a proper attempt at a genuine piece of hardware, with radio on board. You have to remember the Home Assistant Yellow has the SiLabs radio on board. If you had a metal case, it would block the Zigbee / 2.4GHz radio.
For Z-Wave - You can drop a Aeotec Z Pi 7, ZwaveMe Razberry or others directly onto the GPIO header, but honestly, a lot of hubs are not including Z-Wave these days as Matter does not directly integrate Z-Wave, so it really is a non-issue in most cases. People who already have Z-Wave will have them paired to an existing hub that can be added on.
The SkyConnect is a USB Version of the SiLabs chip, so would not be needed on the HA Yellow, but would be quite a nice addition to a HA Blue or Raspberry Pi 3/4 install.

Congrats, I wish you can talk about installing HA on separate cm4 as it my option to order the standard kit without the compute module, there a to many things to talk about it in the future

I wonder how heat from the heatsink should get out of the totally enclosed case. Only two little holes seem to be very optimistic. I run Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi 4 with a metal case with integrated heat sinks - and the case get's quite warm in normal operation (around 10-15 °C above room temperature).
I think it relies on ambient air for convective heat transfer. I hope some heat transfer calculations were done, or at least some modeling. For reference, my processor temp is sitting between 105 degrees F and 135 F for the past 10 days. I don't run much on it yet, so I'm not sure if that will change much when I start running automations on it.

I have a question... how good it is the integrated zigbee antenna in home assistant yellow? Does it worth it? Or better continuing with sonoff zigbee and zigbee2mqtt? Thanks
It is good, but I can't say how good since I have not done a range test.

I teresting choice to leave out bluetooth, do you know why this choice was taken ? Zwave is not an issue for me, but ble is.
They didn't want to ship a product with multiple wireless radios because of FCC regulations, but you can always buy one without the CM4, and get a CM4 that does have Bluetooth already built in

great overview - recently went from vm to odroid n2+ with a yellow on order and cm4108032 ready to install (not currently using bluetooth in my setup so hope the cm4 i have doesnt interfere with my ZW/ZB). has anyone seen/done comparisons of performance between the odroid and the yellow with the cm4?
Not that I know of, but I think we'd expect the odroid to outperform. I'd try with my HA Blue but I'm not sure how to compare...

well i got one to have an easy start but it just dont work, just a red led and nothing else react.

@@makeitworktechhi, well the HAY do not even register on my network, nmap do not find any ip other than mine and my gateway. i tried but no success. i have to try the debug by usb....

Good video Aaron, if you need Bluetooth then you can get one of the kit variants then use a CM4 that has Bluetooth built in instead!

I added a Z-Wave radio to the HAY's GPIO pins and it works great. Using the Zigbee radio as well and an ESP32 bluetooth proxy. Phenomenal setup.

One other reason for Z-Wave if I'm not mistaken - frequencies are different depending on the region and that would require additional types of main board to support those frequencies.

Still not convinced on the look 😅 blue looks way better the transparent look just seems odd to me but at least it is customisable and hopefully in the future a brand will make custom cases for it

I agree! The blue metal sold me... The mustard yellow, not so much haha. But my blue looks horrible with all of those dongles connected to it!
does the blue or yellow has the capability to handle frigate processing on it?? or do we still need higher computational power

Yes I did - bit of a complicated process!
@@makeitworktech Excellent! I am struggling to get my RaZberry 7 Pro module to work, it doesn't seem to be showing up as an attached peripheral. Is there a jumper or something to enable the extra GPIO?
You actually need to change a jumper on the yellow board, and then connect it to your PC via USBC port, and then from there you need to change some settings on the CM4. Once the cm4 is configured properly then the module will show up. I'm out of town this weekend, but if you hop on my Discord I may be able to help you through it next week.

Ah, it's not too bad these days! It will be auto-discovered by HA and configuration is pretty easy. The modules are a little more complicated
