I will be trying this later. Lately I’ve been exclusively trying to get Splitting Bolt and Second Wave together along with Sea Storm. I came across it by accident one time and literally cruised through. I usually take Poseidon Attack, Zeus Cast and either of their Calls. From there it’s Razor Shoals, Breaking Wave and Wave Pounding (for bosses) for Poseidon and Storm Lighting and Static discharge for Zeus. Most of those are only there for the Duo and Legendary, but most of Poseidons boons compliment his attack Boons *very* well. Static Discharge is pretty okay too ig.

I think shattered shackle fits into a run well if you take it right at the start and you dont want to force your run completely. I beat 32 heat and did a bunch of the hard stuff in the game but now I just play a bit more casually and I always start with shackle in tartarus. However, if we are talking about useless keepsakes I think skull earrings and distant memory need a complete rework. They’re just useless.
Were those keepsakes different, two years ago when you posted this? Built correctly, skull earring is powerful with the bow. And distant memory is basically free bonus damage with the bow, rail, or with the hidden aspect of the spear. The most useless keepsake in the game is Thanatos's. If you're good enough to never get hit in every room and earn its buff, you don't need its buff!
Maybe I'm just a noob but crystal beam is like THE thing I get for the Heroes every time. Theseus can't shield in multiple directions, it's also great for hades tbh
As far as I know Chaos boons don't nullify the Shackle's bonus because it isn't an Olympian boon, am I wrong or did that get patched at some point? EDIT: So I just tried it and they don't actually nullify each other. With the Shattered Shackle, the Demeter Fist special did 54 damage. Got a Chaos special boon, unlocked it after 3 rooms, damage went up by +38% resulting in 71 damage, meaning that it didn't replace the 80% damage boost from the shackle or else it wouldn't have increased
So, idk if someone is wondering by now but Chaos apparently doesn't count cause they aren't a Olympian god. I did the "no-olympian-boon run" and got some Chaos boons. The dialogue was slightly different than Haelian's, but the same structure like "yo, no scent of Olympus in you boy", so I guess it works anyways :D
Funnily enough, I *just* finished watching GrandPooBear's Hades runs before checking out this video and I was suuuuuper frustrated at his chat's bad advice.
Does anything different happen if you do a Fresh First Run with no Boons? besides being a legendary achievement I feel it would be also funny lorewise. Although I'm not sure if it's possible since you can sell 3 Boons per Purge Pool.
I would love for shattered shackle to give 100% now. (I hope that is implemented.) it would be perfect for rama. I've gotten pretty good at timing the powershot with rama and getting 100% damage with shattered shackle on rama would be awesome. Also, I recently learned from SGG's discord that a chaos boon buffs doesn't negate shattered shackle so yeah...I welcome that. Supposedly, shattered shackle only applies to the core abilities (the ones always visible on the left hand side.) Also, I don't understand why skelly gets 900ish damage points in the courtyard per life but 250 per instance during a run. That's a major bummer.
Wait... You can fight Charon?! Also I've never gotten Lernie for the Hydra fight :( And I didn't even know you could summon Meg and Skelly, or that you could reroll doors.

@@annoyingpos Just realized that same thing here, I got a really good run with the hoarder slash, trying to get all the epic boons, savings the roll for the last selling shop, got a 2 sacks on styx of health and money and realized that my keepsake is only 80% and the clip is on the test branch lol
Had chaos boon and didn't get it, the comments were right
@@rns6889 i think you weren't playing on the test branch at the time, so the dialogue didn't exist yet
TFW dad tells you to tell no one and you post on UA-cam anyway :p
Well, he said no one AT THE HOUSE.
since you can hit skelly enemies should have friendly fire too without getting deflected
Man, you make this game look so much easier than it is.
Static Discharge is pretty okay too ig.
when you get hit so hard you turn into a goat 29:35
Spoiler for anyone that don't know why Skelly cannot be summon during Charon fight,
Skelly works under Charon where Skelly was ordered to assist Zagreus on his attempt to escape the underworld. There's also a hint in Skelly mouth where you can see a gold coin that you get throughout the escape attempt. I just knew this last week.
Cool info. I remember thanatos being flustered when zagreus asked him about skelly so i thought it was from him.
The crystal beams really clutched a win for me the other day. With the right boons, they melted Hades second form.
They’re just useless.
dude how did you beat it with 32 heat, i keep dying in asphodel even with the lucky tooth and owl pendant lol
The vase in the room at 26:20 also would've given him the exact amount needed for the titans blood.
Here's the talk of Crystal beam, sat here with my sub 45 hours in the game feeling like "oh I really like the beam for bosses, am I a scrub" lol
30:57 That sounded like Tisiphone, are you secretly Tis' VA haelian ??
Maybe I'm just a noob but crystal beam is like THE thing I get for the Heroes every time. Theseus can't shield in multiple directions, it's also great for hades tbh
imo its only useful in bosses that don't move much, like the hydra and the fury sisters, unless you get cristal clarity from artemis.
Wanna see this but with hoarding slash
seriously i tried this with a hoarding slash nemesis set up, and got destroyed ;-; then again, i was trying no mirror and no boons, so it was aweful.
I beat the game with Crystal Beam multiple times. I just let they do the fighting for me.
He ended up not using any boons solely for the extra dialogue from daddy.
It's not whether or not it affects shackle, of course it doesn't. It's about not knowing whether or not it affects the dialogue from hades
Interesting ty for testing that
OH HI MARK!
P.S: I tried this run with Arthur's Aspect, it was pretty decent, if not for the FO buffed enemies lol
I love the funky ass remix you get to charons theme when you fight him.
While it may be just a line, that line wasn’t even in the game when I did mine lol
It's crazy they got 2 different unique dialogues just for this specific and rare self-challenge
I tied this at like 0 heat and when I got to Hades the speedrun reflexes kicked in and I missed the hidden line :(
Usually when I destroy the small chariots I feel like I'm killing cats.
26:20 laughing at the guy in chat who said the DOW is at record highs... Welp, one year later... Here we are...
Funnily enough, I *just* finished watching GrandPooBear's Hades runs before checking out this video and I was suuuuuper frustrated at his chat's bad advice.
There is a third phase in the Hades fight?!
I didn't even know
When using the shackle, i find that its really fun to use the Arthur aspect. The damage on the third swing is MEATY
Tried doing this and was so upset that I got a three sac in styx forcing me to take a boon
I read it as "Getting to Hades with ZERO bones".
I use the feather duster from tarterus to elysium. Then i change to the lucky tooth for temple of the styx and beyond.
if anybody is wondering: chaos doesnt count and it's way easier with some good chaos boons
Nor sure if you tried it yet, but lucifer with the artemis atack crit chance is very fun
Wait... You can fight Charon?!
Also I've never gotten Lernie for the Hydra fight :(
And I didn't even know you could summon Meg and Skelly, or that you could reroll doors.
30:59 haelian cosplays as tisiphone
I just want you to imagine the look of horror on my face when I saw the 3rd phase of the Hades fight (I've only had the game about 2 weeks now)
I've just finished a no boons run myself :D
Got triple shot and perfect shot
And in the health area, almost the same as him, 425.
But did the run at heat 4. I'm not as much of a madman as him hahaha.
My argument for what counts is that if you can sell it in the Pool of Purging, it counts
One hell of a clench at the end there. Nice run
I used Dusa's keepsakes and it carried me through my first victory. It's very reliable healing.
I think that the punishment where they ignore the initial damage isnt bad
unless you are playing with an weapon/aspect that attacks slow or one attack at a time, like arthur and the bow. Its basically a free heat if you're using malphon or zeus shield
Nice run, though I miss that creepy ass circus outro you had. =)
I got different dialogue when I did this - it might be because I had only Chaos boons?
My girlfriend started playing this game on pc and I started when it came out on console. She was hyping me up so much for an item she wanted me to get once I was able so she eagerly watched and made sure I didn’t mess anything up. Finally I walked over and handed this lady a nectar and I got the item. My girlfriend was ecstatic, and told me I should check it out right away. It was an item that gave me a 5% chance to find minimal health in some pots. Scaled to 15% at max rank, it was the Dusa feather duster. I was so….disappointed.
ok so i have this friend that i introduced to hades and he loves, but he falls for so many of this traps in the game and i keep having to push him out of them.
You couldn't get titan's blood because you missed one urn in styx, would have been exactly 1200 :D
I did a weak laugh at the exact same time as you after you said 'penetrate'
Wow he made it all the way to Hades with no deaths and no boons wtf. Also it would be cool if you could fight chaos
Dude your skill is AMAZING?!! My best is 7 heat with the shield so far!
I take Harpie's Feather Duster because you think that the low % chance is bad until you realize the sheer quantity of vases you can find in each room.
(was @ the comment in the video asking if anybody used the duster anymore)
Of course, but doubling your damage for this challenge is probably going to push you further.
@@JulieLamia plus the goal of this run was to have shackle in your inventory for the hades fight anyway, right?
Was thinking of doing this run. Glad to see someone did
This guy, better without boons than I am with boons most of the time.
In the very beginning of his run what was that Artemis boon thing sitting on the floor I’m a somewhat new player but I’ve never seen a boom hovering over a hellish symbol
MINIMAL SPOILERS after you defeat tbe boss once, the house contractor will let you unlock "infernal gates" very hard encounters that require certain amounts of "heat" (type of difficulty unlucked after beating final boss once or from start in hellmode) at 5 heat you can enter these rooms in tartarus, 10 asphodel 15 elisyum.
These encounter grant enhanced rewards and are also an extra choice when hunting for specific stuff (boons or obols for example).
Super Giant games is my hero for 2020
Sub-20 minutes, 20 heat, what the fuck? I can't even get under 29 minutes at 6 heat.
Whats with the bone hydra arena? Is it an early access thing
This is the arena if you have Extreme Measures rank 2 applied for Pact of Punishment.
@@JTGwozdz oh, haven't used extreme measures on the pact yet
I enjoy these videos a lot, and i would love to join the stream, what time do you stream at?
If you don't have a schedule about what time?
12 pm est, sun, mon, wed and fri!
Makes me wonder what might be said if you got on the first playthrough.
I used dusas keepsake until I was able to reach hades. It was all that could afford me the run
Crystal beam works well with heroes too.
Not like you need this but what if you did the same run with the only boon being Strong Drink
i had a really strong run yesterday with lucifer rail, at the end i was doing over 600 dmg with doom damage alone
didn't know Paul Bettany started streaming. Pretty cool to know
What is the best combination of weapon/aspect and keepsake for a zero boon run nowdays?
I’ve never encountered kernite I’ve always fought the lernaean bone hydra
I'm trying to be patient, but it’s starting to get kind of frustrating how far behind the Switch version is. I don’t give a crap about cross saves, I just want it to be up to date with Steam/Epic.
Are they not up to date? I own both on the switch and steam but i quit playing the steam version.
@@qlock6154 Switch version didn’t get the October patch with the new themes & balance changes, & it still has the bugs with not unlocking the sundial & Good Riddance’s instrumental
I tried this myself a while back and he didn't say anything different. I guess it just depends.
It's something new in the test branch
31:15 He's begining to believe...
explosive shot is actually kind of good if you're still new to the game since it makes the bows dash strike pretty good
Do new players even understand how the dash-strike is different for the bow? I didn't figure it out until after seeing the credits, but maybe I'm just stupid.
The melee weapons are so much more obvious in their differences compared to the bow having faster charging and the faster firing on the rail.
So if they don't understand that, they can't effectively capitalize on the hammer
@@dig8634 We get it, you're pretentious and think you're better than everyone else. Can you calm it down tho?
@@simonharford4834 I'm sorry, but what? I'm just giving you my thoughts on what you said?
I even said I might be stupid in the comment, and phrased it as a question because I might be wrong?
Sorry if that came across as pretentious, I was just honestly curious about whether new players actually could make use of that hammer or not.
