I was ready to settle into a 40 minute video, but I'll take what I can get. 🙂 But yes, most "winter outfits" don't work anywhere that actually has a winter. ❄️ 🥶
I've seen a few videos on "how to dress stylish and still be warm for winter!" and then i watch them and they're basically all autumn wear for canada, like girl i can't afford to have a silhouette and cute boots when it's -35 in the morning and i have a half hour walk to work lol. This is the first trick i've seen for making something "winter wearable" that actually seems practical!!
@@_doodles01 layers layers layers! I live in Montreal with the humid cold winters and here is what I do for skirt outfits: the fleece line tights toped with thigh high socks and/or leg warmers. I also wear biker shorts over my tights. Even better it they're high waisted, cause they'll warm up your torso a little. Size up in boots if you can to wear thick socks, and of course go for a good warm pair, none of the fashion boots. For tops, I start with a cami or a second skin style mock neck, then my sweater over that. Then you could add a cardigan over it. I have a puffer vest that I wear under my coat for extra warmth without bulkyness at the arms. I wear 2 scarves: a thin one worn under the coat, and a thick one worn over the coat. Of course I wear a tuque or ear muffs. Finally for mittens I wear thin gloves and then mittens over them. Trust me with all those layers you can build very cute outfits as long as your boots and big coat are cute enough, and the coat doesn't have to be that warm if you layer underneath. You can even do the fleece line tights under loose pants, no one is gonna know and you'll be super toasty. I've been out all day in these outfits and I was never cold.
The toe warmers and leggings are genius! There are also none-slip stickers you can stick on the bottom of your shoes. I always have some around for this reason.
Another easy solution is to scrape the bottom of your shoe against rough graphite or concrete. Old stripper trick. We had a super textured wall in the smoke room and used to take new heels and scrape them against the wall super hard, because on those slick stages, if you slide you could end up tearing a muscle or breaking an ankle or getting severely injured cause, yknow, you're wearing 6-8 inch heels and doing gymnastics lol.
Huh? Been dancing for over 10 yrs and never felt the need to do this to my heels no matter where I danced and never witnessed this either. U need to wear actual dancer shoes like pleasers that are meant for stage and stop doing strange things.
I like the fleece lined leggings and toe warmers but the glue looks a little crazy haha! My tip is to buy a roll of 3M clear adhesive rubber and stick it to the soles. It also works great for protecting full leather soles, red bottoms, etc, anything with a smooth sole that you want to preserve and/or add grip to!
The Salt might look crazy but it actually works wonders. They actually salt the streets atleast in Finland rather than just throwing gravel around just don't use the boots at home or anybody else's house🤷
@@kerttupiirto2365 Road salt works by raising the melting temperature of ice but I think in this application it's simply providing grip. The salt would all melt away if it was actively melting the ice as you walked.
I prefer 2 wear fleece lined tights, cos then I don't have to faff about with toe warmers.. Lovely and cosy & I can wear a knee lenght skirt in the winter..
I saw a TikTok where someone did the fleece lined, layered with brown regular tights then black regular tights and it looked really good. Idk if it’s a lot of layers as I haven’t tried it yet but I will if I ever decide to wear a skirt up here by Canada in the winter lol
Ya... you can get tights in the skin shade you want and then layer black tights over them & it will have the same effect. There are some videos/ Tik toks that show you how to do it and it looks great. I'm probably not explaining it as well as the videos can, lol. A few different ways you can do it... all easy & cute.
@@theshadylady1982 yup, buy the fleece leggings of the shade that works with your skin tone and then put on the more sheer stockings that you already have. Gives the same effect. Plus you have more options since you might have stockings of different colors and textures already.

Hello! Winter skirt wearer who lives in a cold climate here. I don't wear dresses as frequently because I live in separates for the most part, but I have some tips! The majority of the skirts I wear in winter are quite long (midi-maxi length, just above the ankle) and are made of a thick wool (my long skirts are all vintage, and the fabric is very substantial). They are also pretty voluminous and aren't figure-hugging, they're more of an A-line fit. The long length and thickness are great because it means I can wear a petticoat underneath. Old-fashioned, I know, but having extra layers of thin cotton underneath the skirt really can do wonders to keep your legs warm. I also wear fleece leggings underneath opaque tights under the skirt and petticoat. High boots (knee-high or thigh-high), especially leather boots are really great at keeping your legs warm under all of your layers. I do recommend looking for natural fibres (especially with the fleece leggings, I recommend cotton or bamboo fleece leggings which can be found easily on Etsy, though they are a bit pricey) because I've found that polyester/synthetic fleece leggings make my legs sweat the second I get inside a building. Wearing thick, high socks (I suggest those in merino wool) with your boots is also helpful if you need extra warmth after the fleece tights/leggings. I also typically wear a pair of shorts underneath my skirt, even if I am wearing all of these layers, because it makes it easier to tuck my top in (usually a button-up, sweater, or both at the same time). If you want to wear a knee-length skirt or miniskirt, I suggest all of the same things as above. Seeing as a long petticoat would look weird with a mini, I would suggest instead opting for thigh-high socks over your fleece layer and tights. These look really cute with knee-high boots and can be fun to get in different colours that can match with different things in your outfit. A peek of a green pair of wool thigh-highs could mirror your green scarf or some other accessory/item of clothing. Leg warmers are also an option, and those are particularly good with lower boots/shoes because they can be scrunched up or down and are good for if the part of your leg which is cold changes. If your ankles are cold because you're wearing loafers, then you can scrunch them down and depend on your other layers (petticoat, long skirt) to keep the rest of your legs warm. If your calves are cold, you can straighten them back out along your leg. Japanese scrunchy socks also have a similar effect, except they are socks so they can also go over your foot. I would also recommend getting winter skirts that are an inch looser than the measurement of your typical waist skirt fit, because with all of these layers, tights, fleece, shorts, petticoat, fitting your skirt to your natural waist without accommodating for the layers can be a bit uncomfortable. With dresses, the same things apply as above for the skirt portion, but there is the extra step of layering on top as well. Depending on the fit of your dress and how loose or fitted it is in the bodice, what you do to layer it up will vary. My most favourite dress ever is a shirtdress with a fitted bodice and an A-line skirt. With this dress, I can comfortably layer a thin merino wool turtleneck underneath, merino wool being quite warm despite being not bulky (which is wonderful for layering). On top of the dress, which is now on top of the turtleneck, I could layer on a waistcoat, and a jacket or coat on top of that. You can really do a lot with a dress if you just think about what the constraints of this specific dress is. If the sleeves are too voluminous, maybe it'd be hard to layer a coat over it, but perhaps it's roomy enough in the torso to fit a turtleneck underneath and a sweater vest on top. Another option I have limited experience with is a sweater dress. These can be quite warm, and while if the skirt is fitted, petticoats may not be an option, all the other tips from before can apply. They tend to look very good belted, and a great midi length sweater dress looks fabulous with a pair of high boots and a long, dramatic coat. This is an absolute monster of a comment. I hope it was helpful lol

you can always take your shoes to a shoe repair and have them put rubber treads on the soles and bottom of the heel. in my experience they'll probably charge between $20 and $30 per shoe, but if you care about the shoes it's 100% worth it. i've done this with all my favorite pairs of cute winter boots and they've lasted me so many seasons!
The toe warming pads and fleece tights are great suggestions. I wouldn’t do the glue trick because I have expensive shoes and that would take the resale value way down if I ever decided to sell them.

Oh maybe to even improve this cool hack is that you can dye the salt with eyeshadow or chalk before gluing it, to match the sole to make the dots less obvious

OMG, I'm so going to look for those leggings! I love wearing tights, but it's always way too chilly for most of the year, especially since I swear tights suck in all the cold air. If those work, you'll be an absolute life-saver!
And not so sure about the salt and glue on the shoes... Cool idea, but I like keeping things as cleaned up as possible. Also, seeing you walk on that hardwoood with the salt 💀
Blowin my mind, girl!
Ooo ! Where did you get the fleece leggings? Do you have a LTK?
I LIVE in these tights ! I wear them all winter under my Jean's lol ! It's freezing cold in the North east
Wishing for snow ❄️ but not possible 🌞 grt tips
Here in northern Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 it can be -30 easily. I suggest to buy shoes with a nice grip already. Tights with skin coloured warm thing (fliss?? Idk) is a winner
Yes I totally agree 🥰❄️ this is for that fashion boot that maybe isn’t meant for winter but you can still wear once in a while this way😍👢
Winter me in 4 layers of sweatsuits looking like a potato but now with cute boots 👢✨
The fleece lined tights omggg was just telling my husband why don't they exist? But they do!!!
Where are those boots from?😍
You're my kind of girl! Love the leggings idea!!
The salt doesn’t dissolve if you step into water or snow?
Those leggings are GENIUS
I moved from California to Michigan for six years and I can’t believe my tailbone is still intact after how many times I fell on my butt. I grew up as a dancer, but you can’t walk upright like a dancer on slippery surfaces. Lol! I had to learn how to hunch and walk flat footed Lurching forward with every step just not to die. Had I known this hack, however, I would’ve been so much more cute doing it. 😂 Thanks on belalf of future me visiting Michigan.
Really happy to see your vedio .have been watching your vedios over n over again
I’ve wanted so much to go visit either Alaska or Canada in the winter , AMAZING tips!!
These look more like autumn boots, but still an interesting hack, thanks
I need to get some toe warmers 😍
I was just thinking the other day I haven't seen any of your current content. And is this fitting for the holidays and the winter months. Excellent on every level. Love your content hope you're going to have a great holiday, miss seeing you. And I really like the stockings I need to get a pair of these. I hate the cold
This is so helpful! Thank you girl! 🥹🌱❄️
Cool hack, where can I get these leggings?! Links please!
Clever. Much appreciated.
Could you please link the fleece lined tights?
Indians left the chat as soon as she said salt..
Big fan here tho🙌 🥰❤️
Foot warmers saved my toes at a Steelers game last Sunday. My husband brought them just in case and I was shocked at how long and well they worked!
Wow! That is really new (for me)!!!!! And GREAT!!!
This is brilliant!!
That was smart! I love the DIY grippies~ Thanks. 🙏😁
FYI you can also buy textured stickers for shoe soles. They usually sell them in places that do fancy dress shoes. You know those sparkly wedding heels never have traction at all. 🙄
Welcome back! Missed your actually helpful videos ❤️
Truly our queen 👸🏿
Great hack!
No winter where I live but enjoyed watching the video
❤
I need those warmers!! My feet get soo cold n i get uber miserable
I like sand better than salt for this purpose. It doesn't dissolve in the wet.
Will try, you always have best advices and hacks 🥰
i love your content so much, alexandra🖤🖤 thank you so much for all you do.
I love your videossss
Thise tights are fab ❤
Love the boots! Where did you get them?
I love you and these tips are unheard of!
i saw these tights on pinterest where can i get them ?
Oh maybe to even improve this cool hack is that you can dye the salt with eyeshadow or chalk before gluing it, to match the sole to make the dots less obvious
Do they make fleece lined leggings for darker skin? I’ve tried some, and it looked like a different skin tone showing through on me 😅
the efficient way is to go to shoemaker and ask them to put grippers on the soles. At least that won't damage the leather
The 'skin' tights are a great idea! Do they make those for brown /black people?
Someone asked this a couple days ago and someone recommend a brand that made some in brown. I came back to look it up since I forgot and just now remembered and it’s gone….
Such a good idea!
Though, I’m now battling a week of -40 windchill, so this will have to wait till March for me haha
Salt melts when exposed to water/moisture- use sand instead.
