A Look at the Austrian Abbey Running for 900 Years | EWTN News In Depth September 22, 2203

Hidden away in the hills of Austria, just outside the city of Vienna, is Heiligenkreuz Abbey. Dating back to 1133, it is the oldest continuous Cistercian abbey in the world. EWTN's Colm Flynn gets a rare look inside the abbey, where visitors are not normally permitted, and meets one of the monks who has dedicated their life to daily prayer and worship.

I believe I was here in July 1985 .I was on an 18 day T.W.A. tour with other Americans. Did visit several of them in Austria ; very holy sites !

Nice sadly like so many other religious communities after Vatican 2 many orders of cloistered monks and nuns went liberal and abandoned Latin and other monastic traditions.Many of their masses look like a Lutheran service.Happily some faithful orders of monks are flourishing around the world!
