    Dude, figure out how much a cord of wood is worth in your area. Then figure out the cubic footage of truck beds and trailers before you give them a price. in my area a cord of wood is worth between $3-400. A 6.5 ft truck bed can fit a 1/2 cubic ft of wood. That amount of wood goes for $150-200 in my area. That first guy with the trailer would have paid $80-100 in my area. That was over a 1/4 cord. Get some T posts, and pound them into the ground 6 ft apart and 4 ft high. Tightly stack the wood in between the posts. 1 of those is a 1/4 cord of wood. 4 is a full cord and so on. Post the pictures and whatever price you decide, and let the customers pick how much wood they want. Then they can load while you split more wood.

    With this much demand you could increase the prices but offer free delivery. You will get even more customers especially the more affluent ones without trucks or trailers. I saw one customer showed up with a rented truck.

    • @catalintopala7325
      @catalintopala7325 День тому +7

      I definitely agree that he should raise prices if there is high demand, but offering free delivery will take away a lot more time from work and family. I don't know if that trade off is worth it you'll have to spend way more time loading, driving, and unloading for not that much of a bigger payoff. if the customer wants delivery they have to pay for that extra work and time it takes.

    • @JackofHaulTrades
      @JackofHaulTrades  День тому +3

      People in my area are charging $75-$125 a truck bed, so I'm pretty competitive in my market! Free delivery is totally not worth it for me. Plus, I don't think it's fair for the people who would like to pick it up and save money

    Although it is true that you are selling seasoned wood, it’s by no means guaranteed that it is even half dry. Red oak and especially all those big rounds (of basically any wood) probably turn to mold before being close to being dry. But if you have like ash or maple (or really dead red oak) it may be a different deal. Just make sure you are not making your customers mad I guess is all I’m trying to say. Great video, love the attitude, keep the videos coming :D

I was watching another youtube video and they were on about all the wood they see in skips and on the road side which could be reused this could be another way to make some money you seem to have plenty of land you could use for storage.

    I admire your work ethic! It’s great to see. I’d say other commenters are correct in saying you should standardize your prices by volume. I’d suggest watching Chris at In the Woodyard. He has lots of great info on starting and running a firewood business…he sells a couple hundred cord a year! Also, you should at least cut the log lengths into rounds, preferably split them as well asap to get the wood drying. Log length wood that’s a year old doesn’t season much if the bark’s still on

    Great idea with the amount of wood you get, but you should be splitting wood right now to sell next year. I can promise you no matter how long those rounds have sat there, they will not dry until they are split. It takes 6-12 months for wood to dry; get a moisture meter or make sure you don't advertise dry and ready to burn.

    Get a moisture tester and see what the wood is on the inside. Don't want to sell wood over 25% as "seasoned" or creosote buildup will burn ppls houses down. It will dry in round or log form, but very very slowly.

      Depends on what he is selling it at I sold firewood by the pickup loads and trailers loads and hard woods were more money and stacked wood also cost more but we was a tree company so had constant supply of wood made money off it after split had a few people on occasion would buy the rounds before splitting for a bomb fire fire pit drinking wood people doing celebrate of life and heating there homes mostly mixed wood but the other sold as well fruit woods for smoking meat and my friend never put his wood on pallets like I told him just told him a while ago free time split the wood up ready to sell just hope you not giving it away told you to check around and get a price for what it's going for my friend

    Put the wood on a pallet. Figure how much your mini skid can lift with forks. Step back and ask yourself how much that's worth to you. My bobcat lifts pallet of wood that is about 5 ft tall. In my area if I was to sell it or to buy it I would say it's worth $120. One of the best things to have is a product that's easy to see + hand off pallets are free.

    You make money when you splitting it to get ready for sale and people asking about cords just tell them selling by pickup loads and trailers loads but watch the trailers some are deeper than others same as pickup you got six and six and a half foot beds damn near seven feet just saying do good but don't give the stuff away like I said any free time you should be splitting now paying off you might want to watch in the wood yard with Chris you can learn a lot about firewood sales but he is mostly in selling cords but get idea and still sell pickup loads some advice free for the taking
