FTF, I’m a patrol fan. That aside. Comparison on which is better should be more than just capabilities, laden or rigged up. Consideration needed on parts replacement, interchangeable on other model & so on. I’ve torn down both, electrically equal, mechanical 80 has a slight edge. Neither that difficult. Credit to you for taking on the subject. Cudos.
I agree completely that both are very capable. Even though my only owned 4x4 was a 1984 HJ47 Landcruiser Troopy, I have no preference between Toyota & Nissan. The 47 was only bought because of the price I paid. The only advantage the Patrol has over the Landcruiser is that Nissans LSD is better than Toyotas. But throw a rear diff lock into the Toyo & you have instantly swapped the advantage. But then, a lot comes down to the driver & how well they handle each situation. I remember once coming across a Hilux that the driver had somehow bogged on a muddy track near Beechworth. I helped him out, then I took a different line & drove through the same section of track in my 1981 Hiace van (non LSD/diff lock) with no worries. One thing most Patrol & Landcruiser owners who tout theirs is better than the other forget the other competitor that is just as capable as these two...the Mitsubishi Pajero. I've driven different year models of all three, they are all as capable as each other, with the big difference being, the Pajero is smaller than the Patrol & Cruiser. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the situation.
yes you can throw a diff lock in the Toyo but dollar for dollar I can spend a crapload on my TD42 before I even get near the base cost of the stock used 100 series Toyo. My last TD42 I had a 4" lift and 33''s with superior engineering superflex arms, superior engineering adjustable everything with long range tank and long range secondary, winch and dual tyre carriers the list goes on, and all under the cost of a base stock 100/105 series. My brother now has a 105 series and trying to buy used aftermarket anything is jacked so bad you may as well buy brand new. The Toyo is the slightly more capable vehicle base model vs base model, but the Nissan is tougher and more durable. Both modified theres nothing in it except how much out of pocket you are
i hear 76 is no way as capable as the 80 or the older patrols.. rear leaf sprung and high rollover risk over gnarly tracks for the height and narrow frame..
Mujahid Rasheed personally I would take the 76 series just for it v8, the 80 series and the gq is better in every other way, but I would take the 105 series over the 80 series
@@xripideffectsxx5162 I'm with you, the 80 series was a turd lol. 105 series any day over the 80. If money wasnt an issue 105 over GQ, but GQ over 80 series hands down
Let me be as objective as it gets, right now I'm in the market for a 100/105 series diesel or a Patrol TD42. It would seem at the present moment I cannot touch a 100 series for less than $12000, and I just negotiated a GQ TD42 for $4000. The GQ comes with Long Range Tanks and the Toyota is stock, both have 300k on the clock. So I ask myself, what does an extra $8000 get me? Toyota definitely have preferable gear ratio's that make things pleasantly easy, but Nissans diffs are as tough as they get. A GQ can get anywhere a Toyota can get but granted the Toyota has the edge for making things simple. Overall the Toyota is the 'slightly' better vehicle, the Nissan is however tougher. 2nd gear on Toyota is much more preferable, for 1st to 2nd on the Nissan is too wide. For the money though I'll beat up the Nissan and love every minute of it, considering I want it for hunting and spotlighting its a no brainer which one I buy. What makes me insane is there are 100seris out there with 600k on the clock asking $12000, a fool and his money lol
I wouldnt touch Nissans TB42 petrol or Toyota's petrol offering, I drive out to the paddocks and theres no fuel left for spotlighting lol. Now that you bring Hilux and Navara into it there is no argument between the Hilux and the Navara, the Lux wins hands down and not sure I can name a single area the Navara even wins a single point. Maybe the Navar is faster on road and possibly a little comfortable, as long as we dont bring the newest Hilux's into that argument it stands on its own merit. If we're going to make the argument across the board Nissan vs Toyota, then I trust anything with the Toyota badge on it but cant say the same for Nissan.
awesome.. fzj80 96' owner here from canada.. i drool over the 76' series.. do u think its as capable as the 80'.. i always wonder! Aussia is a candyland with all the forbidden fruits.. the 70 series, the vdj200, the old GQ and Y61s .. the Merc G Professional.. very very jealous of your country down under mate!!
TBH, the 70 series (70, 75, 79) are as good as an 80 in ability. Both are build like tanks. the 200 though (my personal opinion) looks a bit plastic compared to the 80 let alone the entire 780series range
I think the LandCruiser is a better off road vehicle, with it's shorter wheelbase. But I prefer the look of a GQ patrol

Patrols are more common for weekend warriors while land cruiser normally are for more remote stuff
Fair Point.

Gq Shorty TD42 Silvertop or Ford Maverick SWB, can't go wrong.
This guy is a GOON there is no facts
I like the gq patrol, just by the looks. But I would take a 76 series any day of the week
