Thanks, so iconic. Another difference between the LRC-1 coaches and all the others, the internal layout. The LRC-1s were used on the International, jointly run with Amtrak, partially because they were the most like Amtrak...one or two of the cars were basically AmCafe cars in everything but looks, and they used luggage racks, rather than the airline-style bins used on LRC-2s and 3s (and for that matter, on HEP-2s)
It is cool to know that the LRC locomotives were delivered I think 1 or 2 years before the coaches. So it was not un common to see LRC locomotives pulling standard Blue Cars in their early years. This can be seen in the cover photo of this video.
Brilliantly documented series! Especially this one! Back in summer of 84 my friends and I took an FPA-4 powered VIA train from Windsor Ontario to London Ontario! Then on the return trip we were pulled by an LRC! It was awesome!
I agree: the LRC and the High Speed Train (HST), also known as the InterCity 125 have similarities: they are both high-speed train consists in their respective countries (Canada; United Kingdom) that consist of locomotives (LRC locomotives; British Rail Class 43) and passenger cars (LRC passenger cars; British Rail Mark 3 coaches for HST service) designed to be used together with the locomotives sandwiching the passenger cars like if they were true diesel multiple units (DMU's) (even though some of the production sets are designated British Rail Classes 253, 254 and in the future, 255). They also both have/had prototypes from the early 1970's (LRC prototype at 1:30 in the video; British Rail Class 41 locomotive/252 "DMU"). Sources: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterCity_125; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Classes_253,_254_and_255; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_252; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_41_(HST); en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_43_(HST)
Excellent look back at equipment which was, most likely, ahead of its time. Just an FYI: The red light on the rare Amtrak versions was not a Mars light. It was an emergency signal indicator. This light providing warning to approaching trains that this train was stopped and in emergency. It would flash on and off. If you look at old videos of Amtrak SDP40Fs and F40PHs, you will also notice this light between the number boards. On SDP40Fs, it was located directly under the Mars light. On rare occasions, you will see video where the indicator light is flashing on moving trains. My guess is the light would not reset after the air brake was recovered. Stay well.
That photo...it speaks so many words! The oldest and latest designs of Canadian ALCo/MLW cab units. I actually had no idea the LRC's were diesel powered, or that they had ALCo prime movers...until I saw that smoke show that is! I can see why you want to get a model of VIA 6782 now!
Nice memories brought back.. Thank you/Merci! I remember I was just a tot when my (deceased now) dad used to take me to the Sainte-Foy station in the late 60s, waiting for the Montréal-Québec City train to arrive and pull in about 8:00 ish p.m..That was before the advent of Via Rail neddless to say. It was the CN passenger service. Later on about 1976 through 1985, they rerouted the train to get to downtown main station,:la gare du Palais. I also fremeber a day and age when we would go to Chicoutimi and there was the Montréal-Chicoutimi and Montréal/Québec City trains running through the city and honking their horns non-stop.all tracks in Chicoutimi have been removed for a bike path. The same for the line in Q.C. en route for Chicoutimi. So many alines were canceled and terminated too from Q.C. to different and diverse destinations within the province or outside.Too bad..I also remeber when the first Bombardier LRC train and engine came out, they put it on display near Q.C. Palais station. That was the ultimate technology at the time.We were looking forward to take or see it on tracks and in operation. Tyhe tracks were removed since then where it was showcased and on display. I've actually always wondered why they didn't keep them any longer than that as a matter of fact.
I'm glad that they still have some operating lrcs and hopefully we can see them again when when those issues are fixed from the 6917 from Rapido trains
Elijah Trofort do a promo video of engines of minimum gauge railway and you will upload the first episode on 4/12/2018 after marlin and noah's birthday of before birthdays and I don't know when and I forgot
Soon there is gonna be 2 LRCs built and one will be the one thr was built in 1975 and it will the other one will be the avelia liberty LRC and it will have a new speed limit and it will be up to 245mph and it can travel up to 235mph and it will be an electric LRC and it will have the same pantograph as the acela express and it will be running from Birmingham to concord new Hampshire and it will be completed in 2021 and it will be replacing the acela express and people will be doing tilting and mechanical issues so it will run fast in the curves and it will be a surviving locomotive
The 3:59 in the red banner refers to the travel time between Toronto and Montreal (non-stop). I've seen these leave Montreal --Quebec does not require horn-honking at grade crossings, which is scary when you see one of these zoom by at 100 mph (160kph). The 900 million mile claim for LRC coaches is absurd and incorrect (nine women can't have a baby in one month). The 900 million mile figure is the result of multiplying the number of coaches times their individual mileage--i.e, "coach-miles," not miles.
If you think about it, the LRC is perfect for conversion into an electric locomotive. First off, it’s shorter than other locomotives so it has a very good height clearance. Secondly, it has a good streamlined design. And thirdly, converting it into an electric engine would help the environment. Basically, remove the diesel engine, add on a pantograph and/or third rail contact shoe, and bada bing bada boom, Electric LRC.
What you did not touch upon is that most LRC running stock the doors would freeze. Making them inoperable. It wasn't until late 1985 until the doors were changed from electrical to change gearing. I enjoyed your presentation. It was a good remember when. I'm Wayne, former Via Ontario employee. Say hey, if you're talking to another employee. All the best
What the thumbnail picture shows is something unusual indeed: Three LRC's pulling a steam generator car and three steam-heated cars, likely not on the trains the LRC's were typically on.
4 engines of go transit it'll be very easy for you to find information on the f59ph locomotives as Texas Trinity Railway Express has a roster of former Go Transit f59ph locomotives as a request I hope you mention the roster from the Texas Trinity Railway Express in the episode of engines of go transit f59ph
Sadly in 2018 Via Rail announced that they will be replacing the P42's and LRC and Renaissance coaches with new equipment that being the Siemens SCB-40 charger and Siemens venture coaches. and now one Via charger is almost complete that just needed to be painted. What are your thoughts on the new equipment Via Rail is receiving.
An answer: did VIA rail has steam locomotives? Technically the last steam passenger train in Canada was in 1980, and VIA was created in 1976, but I can't find information about.
Just one small detail, the LRC was reliably fast at 95mph, but not the fastest. I think the Turbo was supposed to do service at 120mph, did a record of 140 mph on one run. Steam engines during the 1930's & '40's often ran over 100mph, an example being in 1957 when Steam locomotive #5704 ran 3 miles ( between New Hamburg & Shakespeare Ont.) in 96 seconds, which is over 112 mph
Re: high speed steam Locomotives e.g the one that did 112mph in 1957., should have said STARTING in the '30s &'40s . Also forgot to mention that 112mph run was not a special speed trial but simply a random opening of the throttle & seeing how fast the locomotive would go.
Nice. Not to be rude or insulting or anything, But I see you decided to use my series. I was planning do to this series on my channel this summer. But, I almost got really mad. I'm moving on to "Subways of TTC", Streetcars of TTC, Subway Cars of NYCTA and Engines of CN.
Also I will be doing engines of little river railroad. And after I do engines of little river railroad. I will do engines of nagatuck railroad railroad and Elijah Trofort will be doing engines of housatunic railroad and after Elijah Trofort does engines of nagatuck railroad. He will be doing engines of NWR
Engines of go transit, Santa re & CN (suprise series) (2018-2019) after the last day of school for me on 6/14/2019 Engines of N&W (2019-2020) Engines Of LB&SCR (2020) Engines of Southern Pacific (2021) Engines of Acela (2022) Engines of Eroustar (2023)
Soon PRR 4890 will be restored and repainted into a via ghost scheme and it will have letter called celebrating 40 years of via rail 1977-2017 and it will have the same wheels and pantgraph as the Amtrak CS ACS-64s and it will have a new speed top speed and it will n up to 185mph and it can travel up to 175mph and for now it will run on Amtrak's northeast corridor but also in 2021 when new lines at being added in the keystone corridor from Pittsburg all the wet west to north and all the way east to ottowa and also it will run from ottowa to new haven, ct

I enjoyed this video very much by the way
Fulvio Santangeletta unfortunately all amtrak and via rail turbotrains were scrapped . amtrak scrapped all of their turbotrains in the late 1970s and via scrapped its turbotrains in 1984 . not a single one was ever saved and preserved which should be a crime
Ten LRC cars, 8 coaches and 2 cafe cars were built for Amtrak.
Thanks, so iconic. Another difference between the LRC-1 coaches and all the others, the internal layout. Let's hope that the LRC will eventually get back into service because of 6917
if the lrc comes back it will be 6921 first due to its better condition
Pretty much
correct
I AGREE, VIA 6917 FOR LIFE!!!
Or it can be used as a Time Capsule Girl
Brilliantly documented series! Especially this one! Back in summer of 84 my friends and I took an FPA-4 powered VIA train from Windsor Ontario to London Ontario! Then on the return trip we were pulled by an LRC! It was awesome!
The LRC horn was actually a Nathan K3L. The GPA-3H or F40PH-2D have these horns.
The LRC is the Class 43 HST of Canada.

kinda but the HST looks cool and LRC look ugly
AntekRBX, hey, no disrespect.
Excellent look back at equipment which was, most likely, ahead of its time.

I can't wait for Engines of GO Transit, I come from the GTA and have been a big fan of GO for a while and am happy that some one is talking about them
Even the LRC coaches are now the amfleets of canada
I remember being a kid living in Cobourg, Ontario and seeing this engine running on the mainline when I use to sit at the Cobourg Via Rail Station.
Nice memories brought back.. Thank you/Merci! I got me a show on the I.R.T
Elijah Trofort NO!!! DO engines of minimum gauge railway!!!!!!
Elijah Trofort do a promo video of engines of minimum gauge railway and you will upload the first episode on 4/12/2018 after marlin and noah's birthday of before birthdays and I don't know when and I forgot
LIRR
I've see LRC coaches with F40PH-2Ds and P42DCs
Soon there is gonna be 2 LRCs built and one will be the one thr was built in 1975 and it will the other one will be the avelia liberty LRC and it will have a new speed limit and it will be up to 245mph and it can travel up to 235mph and it will be an electric LRC and it will have the same pantograph as the acela express and it will be running from Birmingham to concord new Hampshire and it will be completed in 2021 and it will be replacing the acela express and people will be doing tilting and mechanical issues so it will run fast in the curves and it will be a surviving locomotive
Thanks for these! I never got to see an LRC init in real life.
I caught a half second glimpse of 6917 from a go train
The 3:59 in the red banner refers to the travel time between Toronto and Montreal (non-stop). I've seen these leave Montreal --Quebec does not require horn-honking at grade crossings, which is scary when you see one of these zoom by at 100 mph (160kph).

took a screenshot of the LRC and The FPA4 next to each other. You were right, it is cool!

Thabk you for stopping in! Sorry for such a late reply! I always enjoy hearing that old employees love watching these videos!
7:48 I live in the city where the crash happened. Via rail 92 crashed in Burlington Ontario.
You did a great job, i hope you are proud of your work
That Rapido LRC is still in the Via Rail Yard in Ontario as of Aug/19.
Jamie Bester its still at Vias toronto maintenance centre today .
Fun fact:
Fairbanks Morse (yes, *that* FM) continues to manufacture and service new Alco 251 engines.
And 251s power the Cape Kennedy transport monster than moves rockets to their launch pads.
What the thumbnail picture shows is something unusual indeed: Three LRC's pulling a steam generator car and three steam-heated cars, likely not on the trains the LRC's were typically on.
The lrc locomotives were delivered before the coaches so in the early days of the lrc that was not uncommon
yes, that's a great idea! Go Transit used lots of different locomotives. Great series, keep going, you are amazing, can't wait to see more series.
Matthew Schilling thank u a lot!!!
I am doing the Hawker Siddeley RTC-85, then the GP-40TC, after that the F59Ph, then the GP40-2W, then the MPI locomotives.
Hi viarailfan6448, I'm definitely excited to see the go transit series.
A few LRC coaches were retired due to accident damage.
Omg the thumbnail was taken where I used to watch trains as a kid
when via decides to get new engines this series should get more episodes
I am going to do the engines of Go transit series since VIARailFan6448 is not focusing on it anymore.
Those were not Hybrid K5LLAs, those were Sand Cast K3L airchime horns.
I was excited for engines of go transit. 😔 it's been two years
I own one of 6923's numberboards
At 1:48 is the TriMet Budd RDC
im sad yet happy
Canada is my home town and i love canada. I am canadian and i luv go transit and via

Elijah Trofort will be making the dates of engines of CT vally railroad and they will be the same date as yours
Enjoyed your video, let's hope Canada proceeds with High Speed Passenger Rail.
The horn sounds like the Montreal Canadians old horn from 1998
You should SOO or GTW! Or CN and CP!
5:15 so THAT'S what that stock generic train horn is
i love this don't leave via behind there could be more
Awesome video
Fun fact via rail once trial 2 ic3 flexliner from Denmark
1:02 Hey that engine was in Silver Streak!
Sadly in 2018 Via Rail announced that they will be replacing the P42's and LRC and Renaissance coaches with new equipment that being the Siemens SCB-40 charger and Siemens venture coaches. and now one Via charger is almost complete that just needed to be painted. yesss anuther via please make more soon
I hope I will be doing engine of western railway of Alabama, Or, Engines of Atlanta west point Railroad? Or, Engines of Savannah & Atlanta Railroad
An answer: did VIA rail has steam locomotives?
Technically the last steam passenger train in Canada was in 1980, and VIA was created in 1976, but I can't find information about.
I think you can do an update on this now, with the Siemens SC-44

Mon papa a vue un via et moi et papa a vue un cp rail
The LRC coaches remind me of Amtrak Amfleets on the Northeast Corridor.
It’s more like the Acela car
@@meichen3171 I mean more in how they're used, such as on the high speed corridor in Ontario, like the NEC in the US.
Fun fact, on there test runs some of them reached 201km
Im planing to make Engines of C&O [name work in progress]
Shortline Productions also I will be doing engines of MARC

I enjoyed this video very much by the way
Fulvio Santangeletta unfortunately all amtrak and via rail turbotrains were scrapped . amtrak scrapped all of their turbotrains in the late 1970s and via scrapped its turbotrains in 1984 . not a single one was ever saved and preserved which should be a crime
