I think this episode shows so much about the munsters, even more than just another pretty face when herman is revealed as who he really is outside of the show

When I was a little boy in the mid 80's, ELVIRA was my 'Zombo'. To be honest, when in that time my mother told me her real name and that she had red hair under that wig, I to freaked out, I just didn't want to believe it.
Nothing like family to pull the rug from under our feet when fantasy becomes too strong. lol

Remember when Elvira got up from her sofa and got her wig caught in the overhead microphone then sat down without it. I imagine Eddie was responsible for that!

Even though the full program isn't posted, I can guess that Eddie gets very disenchanted when he meets the real Zombo on the set of his TV show and finds out he's not really a monster, but a regular human wearing makeup and a wig - unlike his dad.
I always thought grandpa's nose was a prosthetic. But after seeing him on car 54 where are you, I can tell you it's the real deal!
He did wear a prosthetic nose in a few early episodes.

It never made sense to me that Eddie would have watched this show. Wouldn't the host have been normal to him? Cause in The Munster world strange was normal,and normal was strange the way they thought Marilyn was ugly and someone ugly was beautiful.

"Zombo" is a parody of Philadelphia TV horror personality John Zacherely, who launched dozens of TV horror hosts across the US.
In Detroit, during the 1960's-1980's there was a horror movie host played by TV personality Lawson Deming the 3rd named "Sir Grave Ghastly." His show resembled "Zombo's", though his schtick was a goofy/ferocious vampire with a sneering laugh ('NEEE-HAHH-HA-HA-HA-HA!") while showing old Universal horror movies through the "Shock"/"Son Of Shock" TV series. Ghastly/Deming The 3rd first went on the air in 1967 on Channel 2, a then-CBS affiliate, also known as WXYZ-TV in Detroit, and ended his run in 1984. He passed on in 2004 at the age of 95.
Zombo isn't a a specific parody of Zacherly. There were numerous horror hosts nationwide by the time this Munsters episode was produced. The very first campy horror host on American commrcail television was Vampira, followed by Zacherly on the East Coast.
@@bessied.5694 I never saw the original Vampira shows probably because she was West Coast based, and Detroit never picked up on her show, but you are right. Vampira was on the air as far back as 1956, while Zacherley came around 1957-1958 when he had the hit record "Dinner With Drac", and was based mainly in New York and especially Philadelphia, but Detroit was aware of him at the time before Sir Graves came along from Cleveland Ohio in 1967, and invaded Detroit television. And then there was the late Ron Sweed, alias "The Ghoul" who also was from Cleveland, but made it big in Detroit in 1971 on three different independent Detroit UHF stations (Channels 20, 50, and 62, before it became a national CBS outlet.)"Zombo" doesn't look anything like Zacherley or Sir Graves, but I get the direct parody within the episode. All Louis Nye had to do was to bring his exaggerated campy hamminess to bring Zombo to life, if for only one episode. Nye was great. There should have been a spin off show for real, but it was like "Bewitched's" "Ho Ho The Clown" and "The Monkees" "Captain Crocodile" (both played by Joey Forman.) They were created to be fictional parodies of other hit TV shows for fun.

Of course, in real life at this time there were actual low-budget local TV shows with characters like this. They just did short intros and breaks while old horror movies were shown. And they didn't look as good as Zombo's show does.

I always wished Zombo an actual show. I think it was great. But unfortunately nearly all of the horror host shows from early televisions do not survey today. They were either live or the just recorded over them. I think Zombo was Louis Nye's best character. I always thought it was funny this kid who was made up to be a werewolf boy and pretended to be a member of a monster family and lived in a house that was just a set, be upset to find that Zombo was only played by an actor. How ironic .
