New York Fashion Week Fall 2022 Roast (julia fox is a model now?)

  • New York Fashion Week has come and gone again, but this season a slimmed-down schedule once again was in order. Titans like Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Coach all presented collection, but the younger names are the ones that really kept the boat moving. From Elena Valez, to Saint Sintra to Dion Lee and LaQuan Smith, there was so much to discuss! And with models like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid, and even 'UNCUT GHEMS" muse Julia Fox there was fodder for pop-cultural moments to arise as well!

I adore haute la mode and this is NOT criticism and more a commentary on how things can be perceived in one context and are given a "pass" but other times and another context could be are villainized. "and the model carried a newborn baby swaddled in fabric on one arm which looked to the notion of motherhood one more time." for the Valez end of show. That's one interpretation. Another would be that a baby (especially a child of color) is being treated as an accessory. Just saying.

I'm from Northern Ireland, which has a population of just under 2 million, so I can relate to an extent. You can find some books about my 'culture,' but in reality they're almost all written by outsiders and about conflict and our difficult political history, portraying things as a warzone and not much else. Actual art, music, history beyond conflict and cultural references are hard to find in print.

Lol it’s not your small population. It’s colonial rule and the commitment to erasing indigenous identities that you don’t know much about Uruguay. I am from El Salvador and our national dress was banned in the 1920s punishable by death. If you have indigenous blood commit to knowing the truth and their hidden voices. Know where you are from and you’ve won half the battle.

there's this book about fashion history in Uruguay, done by researchers of our main University. Its name is “Historia de la moda uruguaya: 1985 a 2018”. I left a longer comment earlier about the influences I saw but I think that it got deleted because I added a link for the book, I'm too tired to type again. Anyway, I'm a subscriber from Uruguay, yay.

I interned at Gabriela Hearst this market week, the black and white floral was based off a drawing Hearst’s daughter drew. Also she drew inspiration from Austin Hearst’s great grandmother in a picture where she was wearing a floral dress.

I found an archive of hand painted French fashion plates and pages from La' Ideal Parisian, from the 1920's. It's about 61 images, I've scanned on high resolution. I've given copies to Kevin at FIDM, Steven Porterfield, the Fashion department at UNT and to the costume mistress for Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. Luke, I don't know of you're going to see this, but I absolutely adore the way you always analyze Gabriela Hearst's work. In my opinion (from a fellow Uruguayan), she truly represents our culture on her collections, she takes the simplicity of it and creates beautiful pieces.
On regards to the dress and coat with flowers, I would have to find a picture of them and inspect it, but in case you're wondering, the National flower of Uruguay (as well as Argentina's) is the Erythrina crista-galli (or Ceibo in Spanish), it should be on those pieces imo

Also, you seem to have some insight about some designers and their processes over others it would be cool to know more about that.
