They need to stop relitigating this. The two best teams of the tournament duked it out two matches too early and something had to give. End of story.

@@hsafootballworld1321 Nah, even before 60th minute Germany had better chances and took control. The young wingers were visibly tired. They played their hearts out in these 60 minutes though. Maybe it did, but no matter how your buildup is against Spain its always only a 50:50 Chance that the Plan suceeds, at best. But Nagelsmann is the only reason we have reached the Quarterfinals in the first place. Before he came the performance was abysmal and the Games unwatchable . All we asked for was a good fight, not a Title and not to die of boredom when they play. And this he achieved and people are looking forward to again watching the National Team Play.
Great point, I think the ESPN show goes for shock effect and hot takes unfortunately.
Agree. Obviously we are disappointed about the handball, anyone would be if you are passionate about your team. But we are also aware that we did not play a perfect match. While Can and Sane‘s start was questionable, we don‘t mind it. We all make mistakes, but want we want to see is people owning them and doing their best to adapt. And that is what Nagelsmann did half time. He had 5 substitutions by min 80 and went full attack. Löw or Flick would have had their first substitution by then and stick to their initial plan not wanting to accept that their line up was wrong. Nagelsmann is one of a fee who does that and the way he spoke in the post-match interviews directly hit our hearts. He is an amazing coach and still young. Bright future ahead
agree. theres more reason to be positive about Germany than there has in ages. I dont think there can be much to complain about in terms of Nagelsmann besides trying to sort out the 9 position, where there isn't a clear option for them.

Nagelsmann did an impressive job. Just keep in mind how Germany played just 4 months back. I hope there are no cognitive issues involved in some people. Havertz is the better option for this front 3 as you could see with Fuellkrug's technical abilities versus Havertz in that match. Also, he didn't score on some good occasions. The tactics were adjusted to Fuellkrug's strengths. Nagelsmann made good adjustments and Germany was the first problematic team Spain had to face. He's a great coach. Havertz, Wirtz, and Musialla are still young and once more cleverness and better scoring is involved, that offensive will cause major trouble for any team. Kroos is hard to replace but Pavlovic and Gross seem good alternatives.

Nope. Germany had plenty of chances and didn't take them.
Unfortunately that’s the truth - havertz sooooo useless , fuellkrug didn’t score neither

JN did well and is not to blame. They played better than Spain the second half and extra time. The last minute goal by Spain was bad luck. And well, Taylor being Taylor (penalty).
It is not unreasonable what Nagelsmann said, yet German fans have nothing to complain about. I have seen a lot of referees in this tournament who would have given Kroos three yellow cards, two early in the game and one late. Taylor may not be a great referee but Germany certainly benefited from more than their fair share of dubious calls in this match.
The German team look like a proper squad now, a huge improvement from 2018, 2020/21, 2022. Nagelsmann should be proud.
lol what is this? One team had to lose and the other go through, Germany simply just lost a football game
You dont seem to understand the whole event/ nature of sports...🧐
Not starting Wirtz was a mistake. He's their most attacking forward, a constant threat towards goal. The second mistake was not starting Andric
Don’t forget starting the Turk gundogan
It should’ve been obvious to him that Spain would attempt to neutralise Kroos’ influence on the game and Andrich had already done enough in previous games to highlight that he’s the guy that clears a space for Kroos. And starting Sane?
Nonsense. Unfortunately, Havertz is not a striker but usually he makes more of these clear chances. He was good in terms of how he played as part of the team but Nagelsmann could have brought Füllkrug from the beginning. It was right to sub off Gündogan so Havertz and Füllkrug played together.
Havertz played way too much
I dont know man. I mean he did everything right except score. I dont think Nailman could know that in advance
@mooboo6603 havertz is an average player. He has nice touches but is very average. Even for arsenal, he is praised for his mediocrity. And stats aren't everything in football. Watch a game and how many chances he misses. And how he isn't clinical..he is average.

The one knock against Havertz is his finishing which is why the games he scores in makes him look elite and when he doesn’t that is what is hyper focused on. Fullkrug is more of a traditional striker, he doesn’t contribute to the other phases of the game but knows how to put the ball into the back of the net. Classic example is check the amount of chances generated during this tournament when Havertz is on/off the pitch, there’s a glaring difference. This is why managers keep on playing him. This is why Madrid tried to sign him the same season Arsenal did and why Chelsea was able to get £65 for him. Furthest thing from an average player. Definitely not an elite striker
Spain won with Nico and Yamal out of the game.
Spain has various B plans.
And plan B is exactly what? Relying on the ref always making every debatable decission in favor of the spanish team? Like in EL or CL?
It is well!!!! known that both Havertz, but especially Sane, are players who cannot score goals.
They convert 10% of their 100% chances, this can work on club level (although it doesnt rly) but not during the knockout stages of the WC/EC.
He tried it against Denmark and it failed miserably.
To then let them start again against Spain is insane and the first half showed again. He realized his grave mistake and changed the team during half time (Havertz ofc still missed 2 big chances).
Im not sure if "blaming" Nagelsmann is fair, but he definitly made a mistake.
You CANNOT have 2/3 of your offense consist of players that are unable to score goals, while also conceding at least 1 goal every single game ...
imo it was lucky they even got to extra time. wirtz was so clutch in that goal. during knockstage it became pretty clear that germany has difficulty actually converting chances created.
Annoying how everyone is framing Nagelsmanns argument wrongly. His main point is that with hand calls in the box it should be evaluated where the ball is going before it's stopped by the hand, so there aren't as many stupid penalties where an arm grazes a ball going to the stands and the focus is on blatant cases where a shot on target is stopped. He only wants the technology for calculating the trajectory of the ball to help the ref make decisions, not for AI to make decisions by itself.
12 months ago, before Nagelmann, the German team's performance was atrocious. Since the lost semifinal in 2016, maybe the won confed cup 2017, it was harrowing to watch the lackluster attitude of the national team. He managed to put it back on track, after 7-8 years of suffering.
His beginning was not good. Lost against Turkey and Austria but changed when kroos came back. Aside his only win without kroos is against Berhalter USA and even drawer against Mexico.
No, but he could have started Fullkrug and Wirtz instead of Havertz and Sane.

5:10 how can you not call that a handball? This is crazy
Havertz needs 10 chances to make a goal
Two really good teams played and it was a very even match. Someone had to win. I would trust Nagelsmann's tactics and decisions over anyone on ESPN FC 10 of out 10 times. Anyone can be a brilliant armchair manager after the fact.
What is Sane doing in that starting 11?! That's the question! Wirtz is a million times better. HE made the difference. All others can be dicussed yes, but leaving Wirtz out for the blind Sane is absolutely insane. Why is that guy even in the 23 player squad?
what's wrong with that expert? Coach literally said that that was not the only reason they lost... to then say he pinned it all on the ref... jeez! It is about the score in that moment. and all the other missed chances are pure whataboutism. they have zero to do with that situation, and whether it was a handball or not. it was a pen, and if it had been given, there would have been (naturally) a very good to chance to gain the advantage, with only minutes to go. I'd like to think, as a footballer myself, that 97 out of 100 refs give that penalty. Germans are absolutely right to complain about this. also, no one in the German camp tried to deny the fact that they had numerous other chances.
stop the sensationalism, ESPN!
not giving a 100% penalty cost germany
That's just a guess, but I 100% would have started Wirtz and Musiala together. They were the ones making problems for the defense.
Please if that handball was in an England game this would be talked about for weeks
It will be talked for years. Soon every player has to wear arm sleeves that shines red, if the ball hits the hand, because England was getting injustice.
True
So every defender should start with their arms up high, when the shot comes in you can try to punch away the ball in a downward movement? Its crazy to me how this isnt a penalty for these guys especially if you see the other spaniard correctly already having his hands behind his back. The handballer clearly just had a mental laps which should be punished by a penalty. Its one of the clearest handballs in the game! fight me! :)
Why is EVERYONE talking about the penalty and NOBODY talks about the fact that Fullkrug hit it with his hand before Cucurella??
It's a clear handball by Fullkrug and threfore there is no penalty.
COME ON IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND
He hit it with his shoulder, same lame excuse by a furia corrupta fan like the potential "offside"
It wasn't a handball by Füllkrug, it's the same lame excuse like saying he was offside. If he hit the ball with his hand there would've been a free kick for Spain instead of the ball continuing to stay in german possetion
@@benno895 HAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHA, sure that was the shoulder
Regardless what the rules say, this handball feels more like a penalty than the Denmark one. Downward but clearly away from the body, and clearly goal-bound.
Even if it wasn't the crucial goal, I'm sad we missed out on what would have been a rocket of a Musiala goal 😢
Playing Sane was silly, why he reverted back to having him in the team needs to be questioned. Sane is all speed and no brain, can’t trust players like that
Germany had chances even at the very last. They blew it.
Havertz was very bad, he lost a lot of good chances in that game

We would like to replace all of those pundits with AI.
Yes, yes, yes. Tired of low IQ, lazy, racist pundits.
Yes, but as long as you are discussing the controversial penalty decision, you are not discussing the coach's mistakes
Havertz was kept on missing multiple good chances in multiple matches, and it caused the elimination against Spain who is a solid defensive team, needed a solid physical no. 9 like Füllkurg upfront from the start. And the concerning goal scoring form of Sane & his fitness, Writz should've started ! Then CAN, who wasn't even selected in the initial squad, started in QF in place of Andrich ? The playing XI should've been settled same for the automatism plays. Still Nagelsmann ball was amazing throughout the tournament but these starting xi problems hampered Germany ~
Germany and Spain were the only two of the "major" teams at these Euros who played anything like what people expect of such highly paid sportsmen. France, England, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, all look(ed) as if they either couldn't be bothered being there in the first place and/or were totally exhausted even in the first match of the Tournament. France will most probably get to the finals without scoring one single goal from regular play, and win after 120 minutes with no goal scored sgain, in a penalty shoot out. It is enough to cry out loud, it really is. And I won't even get into the discussion about England's abysmal performance up to now because I am English and still have an ounce of pride left....(if England actually wins this Euros, nobody will even want to let this kind of football come home !).
Amenl Germany meeting spain was the two best teams facing each other

Being from Germany, I am loving these comments ❤️🇩🇪.
Sane played very bad as well as havertz...if they played better then germany might have won ..
Havertz is the Problem
What are you talking about? Take your chances? If Cucurella hadn't stopped the ball it probably would have gone in and put Germany in the lead. And then Spain would have to go all in. And it was one of the clearer penalties in the last tournaments, too.
Why was Sane starting??
No one knows . I was shocked before the game even started when I saw the line up and knew with sane Instead of wirtz they willl loose
Fullkrug coming on way to late way to many games. He’s the new Miroslav Klose. Fullkrug can making something out half chances and so forth. Sane starting was absolutely bewildering. Was happy to see Emre Can start but ultimately disappointed by that decision as the game went on.
Sane was a mistake, but Havertz I understand.
I love Fullkrug, but he's not very useful outside the opponent's penalty box. Lots of link up and hold up plays lost in what would have been promising attacks. Havertz excels in those, but sucks at finishing. But one would think that should be fine considering he has Musiala, Gundogan, Wirtz behind him.
Likewise, Fullkrug coming on and Havertz shifting to Gundogan's space was a good call.
That would be a very poor analysis
As a layer it boggles my mind how the handball from denmark resulted in a pen and that from spain did not. They really need to bring some serious consistency into that matter.
kroos should have been sent off!
Starting Sane to match Williams pace was the problem he is wasteful
Nagel shouldn't whine about not getting a penalty because a player shot a ball onto the hand of an opposing player from pretty close range. It is not becoming and Germany already got one such ridiculous penalty. Asking for a second makes it sound like he's expecting to be bailed out. It's not simply where the ball is going, it's whether the opposing player has any chance whatsoever of not getting hit on the arm. And it just isn't reasonable to expect defenders to run around with their hands behind their back.
When I think of AI I think of Stevie Nicol 😂
Nagelsmann messed up with his starting lineup, but de la fuente messed up with his subs, so it all evens out.
Do you guys hate Spain or something? If you are not talking about England it's Germany, how about talking about the best in-tournament team?
Spain kicked Germany out, so naturally I'm not really in favour of them, but at least I have to admit that they are the best team in the tournament now and they are playing attractive football. So I wouldn't be mad if they win the trophy because they definitely deserve it.
In fact I am even more frustrated about the fact that England is still in with their abysmal Anti-football playing style. France isn't convincing either. You shouldn't have the chance to win the Euros by delivering a performance that puts you to sleep. So Netherlands against Spain would be a satisfying finale and may the better team win then...
Spaniards don't watch this show... it's even normal, the audience is from northern Europe.
I don’t know if there’s an offside in the buildup to that Handball but I think that was a daylight robbery and Tony C not getting at least a yellow.
How can you talk about Daylight robbery if you are not sure about the offside position of Fullkrug?.
@@latinonic1 Look, The official never mentioned about someone’s being offside, it’s based rather on intentional or unintentional handball so if their decision was sorely based on a player’s intention then I think It’s a daylight robbery, because The ball clearly hit the Spanish player’s hand I think was in unnatural position. I dont think Nagelsman make mistakes in the lineup, or changing Gundogan. Anyone who ever played football know that it was a penalty, if the rule is saying something else, then we need to question the existing rules.
The ball was shot towards goal and it could be a goal if there was no handball. That is the key point.

I was confused as soon as I saw the line-up. I thought musiala/wirtz magic is the only thing, that can make us win this game and I was right. Germany was better, but didn't take their chances and the referee didn't help. That was a pen.
The problem is not gundogan. It's havertz.
There was a clear offside in the previous play that should have stopped the play; and then of course Kroos should not have been on the field anymore
Havertz and Fulkrug missed 4 chances. In big tournaments one needs to take them as the margins are very little. Germany will do learn from this and do better in the world cup.
While the team in a sense deserved to go further I can’t be unhappy with the results given a year ago they probably would not have made it out of the group.
Nagelsmann made some key choices in his selection of the squad. There was more defensive discipline which has been missing for a few years. Certainly the Havertz- Fullkrug debate will remain, but havertz movement off the ball is also key.
Nagelsmann adjusted during the match at half time.
Still better than any England game…
Some players can't get out of the club football mode or speed Everything is faster at country level, especially the defending Your not walking the ball into the 6 yard box for a goal or turning and shooting, see Lukaku for that lesson still not learned. Players need to realise they dont have that extra half second or less the set up or dribble before their closed down
Germany are an extremely strong team, the players are fit and fast, but the team weren"t that well coordinated and well cohesive as they were back in 2014. They are bit more improved over the past Euros and the World Cup 2022. Spain aren't as strong as Germany but they are more well coordinated and well cohesive. That's how Spain functioned alot more better than Germany. Like what happened when Real Madrid played against Bayern Munich in the UCL semi finals. In international football it's often more about the coodination and cohesion over form and superioty.
It’s Klopp time!

its not a pen i agree but wheres the consistency? they gave a pen for handball in the denmark germany game which was even worse than that.
if you can give a pen for that then you have to give a pen for this aswell. simple as that
i think the only question i have will be why can started ahead of andrich. they have been shielding kroos with andrich throughout the group games and he has been fantastic. i can see why he started with sane instead of wirtz to try to get him isolated to make things happen but spain shut that off quite well by starving him of service. i don't think fullkrug starting works. havertz's runs are getting the most out of kroos and rudiger's passing at the back and you could also see fullkrug losing steam in the running even in the minutes that he played. in the end spain did play better and had a better team. seeing germany resort to mueller pretty much seals it. and he took gundogan off because spain was also effective at cutting off passes to him when they played from the back. in the group stages he was the outlet to kroos and the backline's line breaking passes and the conduit to release the ball to the forwards. once he couldn't do that he was not going to be effective in the game.
I am disappointed since world cup 2018 first round elimination, the same 2022 and now in euros…
In my opinion de la fuente made a mistake by subbing off Yamal too. They could have still made a difference
I think you don't know much about football. The game was getting very dirty and aggressive because of the impotence of the Germans and De La Fuente did well to take Yamal off the pitch, because the germans could break his leg. As they already took Pedri off the pitch at the beginning .
@@PrinceMishkin99999 tbh that's true
@@PrinceMishkin99999 lol i guess you think you know too much about football...they did tackles the first 10 min and then spain played the same way as germany. And you should never again take yamal if this is too dangerous to have him play without breaking a leg 😂
@@PrinceMishkin99999 Lol what game did you watch? Sure, Kroos should've gotten a yellow (and not a red like your disgraceful coach thinks) for the Pedri foul but he still touched the ball. Who should've gotten a straight red though is Carvajal for throwing a punch in Mursialas face and Unai Simons a second yellow for his unworthy time play (why did he do it again since spain was sooooooo supperior?)
@@benno895 Your fanaticism prevents you from accepting the reality that Germany played very, very dirty. Spain played normal. Accept defeat like a man, kid.
5:45 Archie cooked Dan 😂. I love to see it.
It was on the wrong side of the draw?
Why not lost to Switzerland instead? Germany would be playing England instead of Spain.
Are you too sure that Germany would win against England?
Spain is the strongest team in the tournament? If they win the Euro 2024, we’ll then Spain is.
Please Spain beat France, so no excuse that England haven’t played the most attacking side if they potentially beat Netherlands and go to the Final.
The starting line-up was a complete joke.
Nagelsmann wanted to do something special again and failed repeatedly.
The elimination is completely on Nagelsmann's head.
Wouldn’t it be smarter for germany to lose to switzerland so they could get england’s bracket?
Maybe, but Germany's plan wasn't to play "smart" but to win all games... Playing for defeat just to get a better spot is not a good mindset for a football team...
Gundogan kroos with wirtz and fullkrag would of made more sense. Sane has fell off where he thought he was gona be Robben but os way too inconsistent
No, I love havertz and he’s delivered and had opportunities in the Spain game and missed them unfortunately. Bright future for him but I do feel that it was alot to ask for havertz to be a #9 nor a normal position for him but still played well! Spain are just that great right now!
One might say so but if you go down that route, then anything not happening (i.e. the not given goal for England in WC 2010) would ultimately lead to a different game. A game that could then go in any (!) direction. Alternate reality: Think about this: Either way. No one knows - it is simply ridiculous saying if this or that would have not happened then this or that would have happened. You simply cannot tell and any lamenting is nothing but wishful thinking.
Germany had chances and could have scored, a clear penalty could have been given (or at least CHECKED by this joke of a ref and UEFA), the German defender could have gotten the idea that in minute 119 you have to defend a header.
In the end, if you don't score but concede you lose, no matter what.
Hope Spain wins it because Germany and Spain are the only teams in this knockouts playing football.
How can u sub gundogan😔
Gundogan is a top gun👌
But, he was not having a good game at all
Those handballs, when the ball is shot towards goal are given in the Premier League week in week out.
In 2023 they were, for the most part. In 2024 they were usually not. The EPL officials pretty much changed the rules mid session, though Webb and his apologists at Sky Sports will gaslight you if you point out the obvious.
