You Tube at its best. Uploads like this allow people like me, 70 years old and on a very limited budget (with nothing left over for CDs), to listen to and enjoy music from composers I have never heard of before. I have no idea who this Henriette was, other then the obvious fact that she was a very talented composer.
Read the biography: a Beautiful forgotten life - about Frieda Belinfante. Henriette Bosmans was a friend of hers. I don't know if the book is in English. Written by a dutch writer: Toni Boumans. Very interesting!
It is March 2017 and the book has not yet been translated into English. I contacted the publishing company in Amsterdam and was told there are no plans to translate it. The biography is actually of Frieda Belinfante, an amazing conductor, musician, resistance worker, and intimate friend of Henriette Bosmans. If anyone has an update on the lives of Frieda Belinfante and Henriette Bosmans I would appreciate an email: irenemir@me.com. That you.
Irene Mirkovic - peterfreeman@operamail.com - a campaign is under way for 2022, the 70th anniversary of Bosmans’ tragic death, to be the year in which her music is played again all over the world. She was my recently-discovered first cousin once removed and I love her unjustly-neglected music, especially this work. There is a video interview of Belinfante on the internet. Also, a tv documentary film was made about her, but sadly only in Dutch, I believe. I am hoping to find someone to translate the Metzlaar biography of Bosmans, and possibly also the book you mention. You may know that there is already a book in English on Amazon. Many thanks for this information, Peter Freeman, London, UK.
Dr. Mr. Andruschak I fully agree with you: we should thank You tube as we are allowed to listen to [and very often do enjoy] music writtten by excellent composers whom otherwise we would never heard.
Had never heard of her before. I'm so glad I bought a ticket for a concert showcasing this work on Sunday. Can't wait to see/hear this beautiful piece played live!
I've always known Bosmans as a composer of strong and purposeful, even gritty, music but this sonata still comes as a surprise. This is so dark, opulent, powerful, and impressive, you'd never guess a Dutch composer behind it.. A truly great sonata that should have a place on the concert podiums alongside those of, say, Brahms, Franck, or Rachmaninov - and give these a good run for their money. A marvelously opulent performance by these two fine Dutch musicians. I think this should confirm Bosmans as one of the greatest Dutch composers. Thanks for the upload !!!
She is great. I love her compositions. But there are more female composers like Fanny Mendelsohn and Lilly & Nadia Boulanger. Also Madame de Charièrre (Isabella Agneta Elisabeth van Tuyll van Serooskerken) A.K.A Zuylen composed music with Mozart among others.
Yes there are really a lot in effect ....and what do you say about Helene de Nervo de Montgeroult discovered by a french musicologist Jérôme Dorival ? I love ...a great pianist who write for piano beautiful Études and Sonates ...
Unfortunately we neglect our Dutch composers in the media and in the concert halls. The 'connoisseurs' view is that their compositions are inferior to foreign works.
@@Muziekgenot this is, or was, a really problem that of prejudice... It is a serious limit to consider something, in this case music, for its intrinsic value ...prejudice shuts the mind ...
this woman is absolutely a genius in every way and aspect of it

Yes, dark and beautiful. Written after WWI and during the flu epidemic of 1918! I hear Ralph Vaughn Williams somewhat too. Complex and nuanced!

I'm in love with this wonderful woman! What a discover!!!
Another female composer you never hear . As good as anything Brahms ever wrote for cello.
Henriette Bosman's Sonata for Cello and Piano is a delight and this pleasure increases with each experience of it. God Bless Her Memory!
Full-bred through and through!
Oddly, I haven't loved a piece this much since the Elgar Concerto. They were written in the same year too.
Just learned about her today! What an excellent composition! Very dramatic and powerful!
I came to this by accident. Beautiful!
Gosh you make me happy with these wonderful posts, gorgeous music! Looking forward to seeking her out!!

And also, probably, the fact that she is a woman ....
