      Hybrids are great for camping. Never run out of power. One can power a camp for a long long time and you always have the reserve that will start the car. Most people start their car for an hour every few days to keep the battery within a range of charge depending on the load.

    Scott, luv your videos. The 2012 prius v three has the same oil burning problem. I have one and had to replace the engine. Another 170k later another engine gone. Did oil changes every 3k and was adding g a quart or even 2 every 500 highway miles (depended on summer temp). Toyota said the pistons had the same problem but they refused to do anything. Did some research and learned that the v had a this as a common problem. Lesson learned... no more hybrids! You are right, when they hit high miles, they get expensive. All my problems were engine only.

    • @emiliospowerballer1441
      @emiliospowerballer1441 3 роки тому +1

      all small cars are easy to maintain. reliability needs a bigger 'range' in order to make rough estimations. vw polos and golfs mae in germany are solid cars, even the sporty racing models. its not a matter of japanese vs european, its a matter of getting what you need and what you want as a second option. hybrid batteries in my country cost 2000 euros, and all hybrids have a 10 warranty which is a perfect deal. i considered buying a 2020 rav4 but it was too pricey; the rest of the toyota hatchbacks were slow, really slow. toyotas are expensive overall but they will last if driven wisely, but that is true for all cars. im not a fan of hybrids tbh, but eventually all cars in the future will be as well as small displacement turbocharged; so it all comes down to what you need

      RKGSD Both the 2.0 and 2.5 are very similar. They need a 220 HP gas 2.7 liter version for the Highlander, 4Runner, and Tacoma. Not everyone needs a V6, now that these I4s are very powerful.

      Forget all the gas-sipping, gutless 4 bangers Toyota makes. Once your try the 3.5L V6 in the Highlander and floor it...you'd swear you had a V8! 🤯 Tires roast with such ease. The 3.5L V6 even makes the older 3.3L V6 look like it only has 5 cylinders!

    Great info Scotty, thanks. I have had 4 Toyota’s in my life so far. Toyota also screwed the pooch on the Toyota Supra turbos in the 80’s many of them blew their head gaskets and they wouldn’t stand by them. Cost many owners a lot of cash to replace the head gaskets! After it was fixed it never gave the owners a problem again, so I hear.
    I’m getting a old hardly driven 2002 Highlander from my Mom. She can’t drive anymore so she is giving me the SUV. It has the 2.4 motor, so when I saw this video My ears perked up!!! Glad to hear it was later years that had the problem. It is a 2002 with under 40K miles!!! Should last me a long time.

      Those model of Toyota engine's are notorious for the oil control rings seizing up with carbon because there were not enough oil drain holes drilled in the pistons. You had make sure you were on top of your regular oil changes to prevent the oil control rings from seizing and end up burning a lot of oil.

      it could simply be a flaw in your analysis of statistics. The toyotas directly from Japan possibly had much more responsible/caring owners and thus aged better
      It could also be a problem with older vs newer cars in general, not just toyotas, in the sense that newer cars have more parts to break. People could also be driving more miles today than before.
      Or any other variable. Such as, for example, maybe more female drivers means overall cars last less? etc...

    2008 Camry is trash 🗑 as well, the engine burns 🥵 too much oil, the dashboard melts in summer. Toyota won’t change the engine or dashboard if you went after 10 years warranty limit/over 100,000 miles or so. They just come up with something to avoid fixing it. So am still using mine like that. There is a video of the melting dashboard on my channel. Bad choice.

    Alongside the reliability, there’s some serious thrill to dodging wildlife.
    I’ve even been able to perform an emergency stop maneuver from 55mph-0mph in 5 seconds to avoid hitting a dumbstruck deer that wouldn’t move. Fantastic handling and braking.

    This is very true about the RAV4s as well as camrys with the same 2AZ engine. Our rav4 used to be a regular oil burner which is fine between every oil change but the burning got severe and it turned to be a bad valve cover gasket. Took the spark plugs out and they were full of oil so the whole valve cover gasket had to be replaced. A friend of ours did it for us dirt cheap and we just had to buy spark plus and the gasket. After the replacement, the car was better than ever and burnt very less oil that is considered normal for cars between oil changes. All of this occurred at 240k miles so I suggest everyone with the same car to have their gasket and spark plugs checked because they're cheap and keep the car running fine.

    I have a 2007 Camry hybrid with the oil problem. I found a recommendation from a Toyota chat website. You basically run some Seafoam in the crankcase and in the tank for a short period then change the oil. I did this and it has improved the oil consumptionl. I have 158k on the car. Was burning 1 quart every 1000 miles. Now less than 1/2 quart for 2000 miles.
