I saw your cat and thought of 2 guys around here whom have a cat too in the shop, they took the cat put him in front of the table saw then they took another picture with sticks and rap around fur that looked like the cat's legs pushing the wood piece into the saw lol they did it nice :)
Thanks for the video. Well, I don't know but that is not how I understand V-bits. It is most useful when doing an V-Carve or Engrave operation and the wider the angle, the less deep you will cut to achieve the same letter width or engraving width. You should be able to achieve the same nice corners with a 30 or a 120 degrees V-bit, the engraving will just be shallower with the 120 degrees bit. Of course, if you use single line fonts or paths, you will end-up with what you have on the rounded star but that is not the preferred usage of these bits.

Is .05 inches the standard depth for a V bit, or can you go deeper with several passes? How do you pocket out the "Chevrolet" sign? Pocket first, then V Bit, or vice versa?
HI Dave, Great video. Do you know if a CNC machine maybe with fine V bits would be able to create a 90 degree clean corner? I am trying to cut out a precise rectangle from a piece of flat hardwood. I have a friend that said some machines are able to angle the bits to cut out corners. Cheers
Don't forget you can buy very small diameter bits to finish the corners. Look for bits to carve PCB boards, and you'll see them down to 0.2mm or so. And yes, there are certainly cnc machines that have more ways to move, but you're talking about a lot more money, or very small workspaces (as in a few cubic inches, like www.kickstarter.com/projects/1090944145/pocket-nc-the-first-5-axis-cnc-mill-for-your-deskt). Or just do it by hand. Here's some more ideas - this isn't a new problem: makeitfrommetal.com/machining-square-inside-corners-the-nightmare/
The video is incorrect as far as the 2- 90 degree slots are concerned. It has nothing to do with the size of the cutter, as both are 90 degrees and will cut the exact same slot at the same depth. the reason the larger 90 degree bits slot is wider, is that he went deeper, thus a wider slot.
Dave, can you post general speeds and feeds for each size bit. I'm just starting and cannot get clean cuts. Any help would be appreciated. Also depth of cut for each pass. Thanks jc
i dont understand why you cant use a narrower v bit for deeper cuts. makes no sense. the diameter of the bit will be the determining factor to max depth not the angle.

I am just learning CAM stuff and went to Solidworks CAM's tool crib library and found no V Bits. Hmph. :(

Yes the width of the vectors determine the depth. I didn't mean you couldn't use them for deeper cuts.
