    Oh man that mud stopped us dead in our tracks. I'd never experienced anything like it, and although this adventure didn't end the way I had hoped, it was still a beautiful experience. Onward! Thanks for joining us on this little tour, and stay tuned for more down the road.

      I wonder if you removed your fenders (tie them, instead, to your back or whatever) if that would have allowed your wheels/tires to shed the mud fast enough to power through it all in a low gear, hoping to get passed the wet terrain.

    I plan to do it on my Dolomite ALX FAT Tire bike.
    With 26x4" tires less pain in the mud - laughs at sand too.
    And when set up tubeless remarkably easy to pedal for touring.

    Bummer they dnf. But at the same time, the dirt road is actually pretty rough beyond their stop. If you do this ride, be mentally ready for a road that’s probably better suited for mtb, and although the topo map indicates downhill after La Sal, you don’t zip until you hit pavement the last dozen miles or so.

    Ryan, you're one of the best videographers on UA-cam! I always love watching your videos because they embody so much goodness: great personality, great scenery, Great Adventure, great camera perspectives, and great times! I've learned about that mud first-hand even in San Diego many years ago on my mountain bike. There was a trail that just put me to a dead stop and filled the entire space around my fork and front tire. I learned from then on that rain and clay formed mud is a nightmare. I also experienced this on my motorcycle east of Moab in the vicinity of Rose Hill and the Kokopelli Trail. If it doesn't clog your bike, it can become so slippery and slimy that you're feeling like you're riding on ice!

    • @duzer
      @duzer  5 років тому +1

      Yeah man, that mud is the REAL DEAL! I don't know of many vehicles that can make it through that. And thanks for the kind words on my videos, I put a lot of heart and soul into them, and it's nice to hear that people are enjoying them! Cheers buddy and happy trails

      @@duzer I full well know you put your heart and soul in them just as I do when making videos for my channel, but I wish I got more views. I try to capture the remote scenic stuff too because so many people would never know what's out there otherwise. I saw your recent White Rim video. That is a special place for me too because one of my best friends took me to ride the white rim on mountain bikes during my first visit to Moab. We camped out for 2 nights. After that wonderful experience I was compelled to go back and ride it on my motorcycle at least 6 more times. I would do so in both directions just for Scenic variation. It's just an awesome Loop to make and taking so much scenery in one day when I would do it by riding all the way from Moab to make about a 160 miles. Unfortunately I didn't use an action camera in the early days because they didn't exist. I did happen to make the following playlist: White Rim MotoTour, Canyonlands National Park, Utah... • @hngldr

    I wonder if you had a brush you could engage in the fender if it could remove the death-mud fast enough to prevent lockup? Obviously it'd still be insanely hard and maybe wouldn't be enough in all cases, but I wonder if it would help in some...

    About the bikes, Dana has her's setup more as a tour bike, replaced with drop bars, clipless pedals but no rear rack? Ryan has the factory or Axiom rack? Were the handlebars a hassle to change from the factory setup? How about tubeless, did either of you try that option? My inclination with the 600 is to go tubeless immediately (why not take advantage of that) along with whatever rear rack. Bikes sure stayed clean - fenders definitely work. Rear lights are minimal to put it mildly and I'd go with another, front is ok but neither anywhere near what I use now. Then, the 600's main feature, the Pinon - happy?

    • @duzer

    What a wonderful series. Thoroughly enjoyed it and your other videos reviewing the Priority 600. How did Dana modify her bike for drop bars? I’ve wondered about the potential of the Priority 600 if you stripped it of the dynamos, fenders and tried to make it a bit lighter like their Apollo gravel bike.

    Remove fenders and drop air pressure to around 24 psi. Of course the big flat slicks are the worst, trade off for rolling fast.

    I have seen many Gates carbon belts break at work in the factory.They don't fail much but when they fail they just snap. I don't think you will find a new belt in the field. You may want to carry one belt or have one at home so someone can send you one if needed. I would hate to see you stranded. I try to use common bike parts that you can find at normal bike shops. I ordered spares for my Ebike. You can't go to the local bike shop in most cases and get Ebike parts.
