The devs better include a Real Civil Engineer Radio option. Because I will be really salty if I activate that gramophone and don’t hear “welcome back to Timberborners” 😅
jeff the drunken AI says Oh, don't even get me started on that, mate! It's an absolute masterpiece in the making! Picture this: Matt's singing voice infused into every music player, from record players to iPods to the kitchen toaster that plays tunes when your toast is done. Can you imagine the sheer chaos and hilarity that would ensue? It'd be a symphony of laughter and confusion! *bursts into laughter* But hey, who needs perfect pitch when you've got a good ol' dose of drunken singing? Cheers to that, my friend! *hiccup*
This is ingenious... I may be off to get this one!!!! I hope all these games you try / play creators appreciate what you do for them...because I, for one, have purchased 5 games you played based solely on YOUR videos. Greg
@itsaidicoulddofiftyletterswhy coding this is actually not that hard, I would say it would be on the easier side... As long as concept is ironed out, coding becomes easier tenfold
jeff the dunk AI madman says Ah, the genesis of genius ideas, my friend! Legend has it that it all began with a group of creative minds sitting around, sipping on their favorite beverages, and pondering the mysteries of life. In their intoxicated state, they stumbled upon the notion that evil eyes and bad vibes needed a solid defense. So, they hatched a plan to create these quirky, creepy trinkets as guardians against the malevolent gazes. And voila! The genius idea was born, fueled by laughter, imagination, and perhaps a few too many drinks. Sometimes, brilliance emerges from the most unexpected places, don't ya think? Cheers to the ingenious minds and the power of a tipsy brainstorm! *laughs uncontrollably*
It actually started with something related to valve, I'm not sure if it was half life or portal, but it was definitely with source. Gotta find the video
I played this demo recently, and when I got the stage with the photo inside a photo, I wanted to see how far you could go with it. Turns out, you can't reach the skybox, the middle of the stage just scrolls around you eventually, but you can make a 'bridge' of rooms all the way out into nowhere and back again. There's no copy limit for the room or photo. :-D I mention it here only because it feels like something you'd do in this game. :-}
Watch aliensrock play, he's encountered something that proves this wrong. This might be a demo only thing (unless I'm misunderstanding your wording in which case there is something but you likely aren't doing what's needed to access and/or demo only)
This is cool. The photos are actually portals (like in Portal). But instead of walking through it, the game copies what's through the portal into the local world.
From someone who typically has no interest in puzzle type games, this is by far the coolest concept, greatest design, and most phenomenal execution of a game I’ve ever seen
3:32 actually the creepy things protect you from evil eye :) It is an old Turkish and Greek tradition. Also the carpets look like Turkish "kilim". And the atmosphere and the architeture are very mediterranean. Edit: Yeah all the decoration and other stuff, definately Turkish.
I've always wondered about the nazar amulets, actually. Like, you would think that something _called_ an "evil eye" would actually _invite_ the evil rather than scare it away...
@@WackoMcGoose Yes it is an eye-shaped object but it is not the evil's eye itself. Nazar amulet protects you from the evil eye. I don't know why it is eye-shaped but Albis was afraid from blue color. Albis is a Turkic mythological witch. Atilla Khan's father's name is Moncuk (bead). In the myth, Albis was afraid of Gok Moncuk (sky bead). Which lead to current charm design I guess.
I saw the developer post this on Twitter, and I was/am blown away especially since I've touched unreal engine and somewhat (ish) know what goes into games and how things work, and I'm not really sure what's going on here. I had to show all my friends; it was so cool.
The first few times it was pretty mind-bendy, but I gotta say I still don't know how Superliminal did the things it did, and some easier ones were still more mind-bendy. I feel like I could reproduce this effect pretty easily though: It seems like the photos are basically just placing a prefab, maybe with clearing out some area first (like if it's overlapping things). Still pretty cool though, like those sidewalk paintings that look weird till you get the right angle, and it looks like you're looking down a pit or there's something sticking up from the ground or so on. Edit: Ok, that's pretty cool. Add on some shaders. Edit2: Ok and a bit more with the camera and game photos/screenshots.
Thank you! I was going through the comments, not sure whether it really was named Superliminal or I was just making it up Edit : and Matt mentions it as I post the comment
you know, i've seen a couple of folks play this game, and Matt is the only one to have turned a level on it's end and simply dump it out of the frame. Well done Matt. Cheers!
When you got the camera, it was the same as when you get the portal gun. Suddenly everything can be broken if you just think really, really differently.
My guess is each photo has a 3d model associated, and when the picture is lined up and clicked a box is drawn using perspective lines from the corners of the photo to the skybox in the background that match the perspective of the photo. Any geometry inside that box is then erased from the world and replaced with the geometry associated with the photo.
I imagine they do a boolean subtraction from the scene using a cube (like you can do in Blender and other 3-D editors) and then they just add the photo's geometry into the scene. The photo itself is probably just a camera view rendering of its geometry. Taking your own photos with the camera and projecting those, keeping the physics of the objects in the scene... that seems a bit tricky. :P
3:31 Those are Egyptian souvenirs most likely; the nazar eye, often called an 'evil eye' (although instead it is supposed to defend against evil eyes) and related to the hamsa.
3:30 "What are they?" Those are actually medallions used by Greek fisherman to symbolize their profession. My dad picked up a few while he was in Greece.
Day 238:Dear Matt, I have a very good video idea Gather all your editors and make them all have 3 chances to make the cheapest, best and most efficient bridge, or the best score on any motorway game(e.g AQR, that one train game, ect...), or who make the longest and most efficient shapes. And see who is the best editor and is worthy of the rank of a classified engineering. From me.
Hi RCE the blue, white, and black eye things are a Greek superstition. The Evil Eye it's supposed to ward off jealous spirits. That's how Papu explained it anyways.
The editors putting Matt's singing into all the music players 😂
If its in the game, I think that is mostly for DMCA reasons.
The devs better include a Real Civil Engineer Radio option. Because I will be really salty if I activate that gramophone and don’t hear “welcome back to Timberborners” 😅

I would give this a like, but it’s on 69...
@@notthatbad42 You can like it now, some Rodger borked it.
Yep. Timberborne, Bounty of One, Poly Bridge 2 and 3, Domekeeper. I hadn't really though about how many I had strictly from Matt's reviews.
How did they come up with this genius idea
I'm guessing plenty of acid or shrooms! 😂
Can you imagine coding this

its been a long time sinds your vids felt genuine but this was nice
I had a minor mental breakdown a few hours ago. But this "Hello, fellow engineers!" cheered me up. Thank you, Matt.
This is brilliant concept design. Cool to see the effort that smaller studios and indie devs are putting into their products
The smaller devs and indies put their heart into their games. Unlike big trip-A devs. I'm looking at you, Activision
you know, i've seen a couple of folks play this game, and Matt is the only one to have turned a level on it's end and simply dump it out of the frame. Well done Matt. Cheers!
Matt, I think you've done it. You have found the best puzzle game ever made. I'm not even really a fan of puzzle games but this blew my mind
This is one of the more creative ideas I've seen in a while
When you got the camera, it was the same as when you get the portal gun. Suddenly everything can be broken if you just think really, really differently.
As a game developer myself, this is an awesome idea: but it's executed so well!
imagine we could just take a photo of a bridge to then replace a weird structure that has curved glass walls with that bridge
What a fun, mind-bending project. Well done to the devs who are making that game. Kudos to RCE as well. Your commentary is always fun to hear!
if this game could make your real life photos 3D then that truly would be a genius amazing product!
The full version release is on Jul. 18!!!
We are waiting!!!
Waiting for the full version. The game seems to be an unique one plus very creative idea.
The eyes in 3:31 is actually supposed to symbolize protection against the "evil eye".
This looks amazing! Such a trip!
Very unique mechanic, love it.
It's like a fever dream where I don't know if it's a re-upload, or if Matt just has the exact same reactions as in the demo haha
Matt is like a kid in a candy store with this
I was grinning throughout this video! What a fantastic game idea and execution!
Wow, this game is truly amazing!

Matt being able to copy any 3d object he wants and he does a lantern
