    You are the greatest. This skillset and your passion for city skating are mind-blowing. I was one of your fans from Istanbul, TR recently moved to Toronto and living in Church st. It is quite easy to have an access to the seaside at the harbourfront and experience city skating while going downwards. Also, I tried doing ''UberEats'' for 2 3 times and made 140 bucks in 3 days with my ''FlyingEagle / Raven '80mm'' skates.

    I noticed that the hockey players use their arms a lot to keep a good bounce to switch directions (obviously) and they also stride with a bigger gap on the regroup between their skates which I guess helps them fall on one particular leg if they need to change directions unlike speed skaters who just have a really repetitive double-push in-the-center regroup to their stride

    • @waynemartin2544
      @waynemartin2544 3 роки тому

      Bill comes from ice I believe as he skates with strides to the side more and come closer in the center. Shawn has a short forward stride but feet apart for stability in contact hockey. Not sure he came from the ice. A double push is more of a marathon inline skater and very cool to watch. I skate short track ice and that's a whole different ball of earwax. I also inline but I'm old and not as flexible as I used to be,

    • @rollingdubaiguy6415
      @rollingdubaiguy6415 3 роки тому

      I think your assessment is correct but I am not an overly talented ice skater. I noticed a recent Powerslide video of Carlos Bernal skating in the city on 80mm and he was striding very short and quick but was still managing to get a small double push. Since skating with Bill in this video I have been trying to bring my recovery closer to my midline to get longer pushes even when I am skating short and choppy. If that makes sense I don't know. I can double push but I need to stride slow and methodical so I can't do it when I am trying to sprint. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @rollingdubaiguy6415
      @rollingdubaiguy6415 3 роки тому +1

      @@waynemartin2544 Hi Wayne, I did grow up playing ice hockey but was never a very good player. I played house league or rec hockey and never even tried out for any travel or comp rated rep teams. So you are probably correct in your statement that my inline skating stride probably doesn't come from ice! I have probably developed it more from my inline endeavors. I always try to learn from Bill when I watch his videos but when I have had the pleasure of skating with him I realize how his feet are always moving and he does recover closer to his midline for a greater push even when he is sprinting even though he is not necessarily doing a double push. And when he says "Stay Low!" he's not kidding. He gets low all the time! Sure, I am taller than him but when I think I am staying low and then I skate with Bill I realize that I need to get lower! I'm losing some flexibility too and I have been trying to work on it to be able to stay low and still pull my recovery leg closer to my midline and underneath my torso more. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • @sibbyeskie
    @sibbyeskie 3 роки тому +2

    Shawn’s balance and control is very good so I would like to see him really work on his stride. Go real low and lengthen that stride big time. If your legs and flutes aren’t hammered after a skate it’s nearly impossible to develop a good stride. Great skate guys!

    • @rollingdubaiguy6415
      @rollingdubaiguy6415 3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting! I agree with your assessment, even though I have improved since the last time I skated with Bill, I can see my stride is a bit too short and my arms a bit too compact and choppy. I definitely need to STAY LOW!

      @sibbyeskie 3 роки тому +1

      @@rollingdubaiguy6415 You have all of the tools to get there, including seeing the path forward. For what its worth, I have a good stride but my control in dodgy terrain isn't anywhere near as good as yours and something I need to work on. Shawn is very brave, has good balance, jumps well, brakes well but lacks speed and technique for straight driving (too much V, too much inside edge). He should work on it, but I still admire how well he did (a lot of respect). On the other hand, it looked like Bill was going easy while Shawn was going 110%. Here you can see how good Bill is at roller skating, how high his level is. His speed is amazing. Great video :)

    Bill, is it possible to stop the way you stop on 125mm wheels? I keep trying and I always end up carving into a super tight turn. Even with my wheels at an angle that screams "okay now I'm going to slide out and fall over" they seem to find enough grip to turn sharply instead of sliding. I'm probably doing something wrong, but even after watching a few of your power stop tutorials, I'm not sure what else to try. As always, aim high stay low and thank you for doing what you do for skating.

    • @stephenklump7615
      @stephenklump7615 3 роки тому +4

      Start with the inside (and lightly forward) skate. Angle it and push some weight through it, toe through heel. When it starts to slide, it's on: whip the outside foot around and forward, angle it and drive through the heel. Weight goes DOWN. You will slide. Keep engaging your core and keep the back foot (still sliding) under the hip at all times. It happens very fast indeed, once it happens, and a lot is going on at once, so use elbow, knee, wrist pads until it is second nature.

    How do you do those powerslide stops?

    • @rollingdubaiguy6415
      @rollingdubaiguy6415 3 роки тому

      Hey, I started learning with a backward powerslide. While rolling backward lunge low and reach back really far to get one skate sliding while the other is rolling. Use a smooth surface to start. Once you get the sensation of sliding on one foot (your other foot is rolling backward) you can try the drag (going forwards) into powerslide. Roll forward and drag your stopping foot then swing it around to the side and front into the direction you are traveling. Your rolling foot needs to pivot around so that it is rolling backward and you'll be doing the backward powerslide. I might not be explaining it very well here. There are a lot of good stopping and sliding tutorials out there including by Bill. With practice, you can get it, good luck!
