I thought I did something to it, restarted, rebooted it but nothing was working. But this very simple technique fixed it all. Greatly appreciated this. Thanks
I spent an hour on the phone with Google Home tech and got nothing accomplished. I watched your three and a half minute video and I'm back in action. Thanks!
OMG Cant believe it works with this simple steps .... I reset like 10 times did whatever I could and it didn't work but now my Sony lf-s50g is back to life , thank you so much @EBPMAM Tech Review
I can't believe this worked!!! Google support told me that both of my Mic's seemed to have shorted out. The activity was nothing but static when I manually activated the mic. I appreciate the tip!
Why didn't I see this video sooner? My google home has been unresponsive for 10 months and I've been resetting and looking up "fixes" for months! But it was this simple fix that miraculously worked! Thank you!
Me too, and I have at least two that aren't working now. We have more than a dozen various google speakers in our house, and I started upgrading my minis to full sized ones as they are so much better in the base sound that it was worth it.... Well it was, until google decided to neuter them and continues to delete features. So once they did that I stopped buying them. I'm not planning on buying any more google products any more, what good is buying a car to drive to the store and get groceries with, and then the dealer says, nope you can't use the trunk any more... Ok, I'll use the back seat, not as useful but ok.... Then they say nope can't uses the back seat any more, or the glovebox.... What gives Google? Constantly deleting features should be illegal unless they offer users their money back!
I had a tech support work on it remotely from google. Cleaned with a bry toothbrush and blew in the speaker holes and still nothing. Took the speaker and tapped 3 times upside down and magic!!! Works again. Thanks man.
We haven't been using our old google home for a few months since this happened. I thought it was finally gone, but this worked. I also used a hand-held vacuum in addition to the t q-tip (q-tip looked like it did nothing so I vacuumed too, didn't test in-between) and it worked! Thanks!
I was annoyed by your answer while troubleshooting my Google Home. I cleaned the mic holes with rubbing alcohol to try anyway and it worked immediately! Thank you, as I cherish Google Home as my perfect alarm clock and timer.
Unplugged the Google home, tapped lightly a few times on the bottom, blew on the two holes, gave a little wipe with cuetip, plugged back in, voila! So glad to have her back, thank you so much for your advice!
HOL-LY CRAP-ZILLA!!!!!...... I can't believe this!.... I had the EXACT same thing happen to my Google Home device. One minute, I can talk to it, and it does whatever it's supposed to.... The next minute..... NOTHING!! ..... It was like it was saying, "Ya, no thanks, I'm TIRED, forget YOU!" Quite a long time later, I now came across this video, I pulled off the bottom, smacked the CRAP out of it, took a cotton swab (dry as you said), rubbed it all around and tried to get inside of it. I also blew really HARD in the microphone holes, put it all back together. AND. OMG!! It WORKED!!!!! This SAVED my Google Home device! You're AWESOME for posting this!!!
Wow!!!!!! I was talking to my wife something about google home mini and I was using the phrase “ok google” and the mini kept interrupting I don’t understand. So I gave the command “hey google mute”. Once we were done talking . I gave the command “ hey google unmute” . The listening mode LED lit up. But then on it stop responding to any commands. I rebooted couple of times and also toggled the mute button. The speaker kept saying unmute and mute but won’t respond to any command. I followed your instruction and gave a slight tap after flipping the mini upside down. MAGIC!!!!! Mini started responding. Looks like google mini requires some old fashioned smack on the buttocks to start listening
Incredible. I did the same and it works. I took a dry paintbrush! I have been trying for week to fix it. I am happy that I don't have to replace it. Thank you so much!
My issue is that it works until you don't use it for a while. I'm not sure how long, hours? Then I have to turn it off and back on, then for a while, like if I ask it stuff frequently, it works. Say I go to bed. The next morning? No response. Have to turn it off and on again.
This happens to me as well. Just spent 2 hours in chat with Google. Voice recordings, when it "hears" are clear. No problem. But every morning it happens again. Doesn't hear and needs to be reset. I've moved it so there isn't any interference from another wifi device, I've factory reset twice, I've rebooted, etc etc. Been over 3 weeks now and stops hearing every day. Support had me check power, do a long hold etc, everything works fine it just stops hearing every single day and doesn't hear again until a reboot.
Wow, I noticed a while back that my commands we're being recorded super scratchy, barely intelligible. I researched and found several articles saying that meant one of the mics was shot. I was unfortunately passed my warranty time, so I want able to get it replaced. Then recently the Google home stopped responding all together. I did the tricks described in this video and Bam!! Google home fixed, and not only that, the recordings are no longer scratchy, which means the mic was never bad. Thanks so much EBPMAN! One thing I'll add though, I had to tap the bottom pretty hard to get it to start working so whatever particles were stuck were pretty well stuck.
This really works! I had the same issue with my Google home and after hours of troubleshooting, resetting it several times and even resetting it to manufacture settings I decided to give UA-cam a try. This was the first video that came up I follow your very simple instructions and my Google home came back to life. Thank you!
So funny. Mine went out a while back. After watching this video I walked over and turned the google home over and smacked it a couple of times and it started working immediately. Thanks!
Wow…..I spent 2 whole days farting around with rebooting, resetting, re recording my voice and everything else I could find on the Google site. I found your post on UA-cam and just vacuumed the holes where the mic’s are and wamo it’s working again. You’re a genius my friend. Can I buy you a beer?
This is crazy. One of our original Google home devices (2017) activated on "Hey Google" with the typical spinning of light etc but no response to what we were saying afterwards. Tried resetting and all other tricks found online but nothing. I started to think it was too old and out of service or something as it took "Hey google" but nothing else. I had taken the device offline to recycle it but had one last go in my office just now and found this video point to a hardware/maintenance issue. Laughed to myself a bit as I tapped the bottom and blew at the two openings on the top. But to my surprise, it was back and working perfectly again. Thank you so much!
Wow. Unbelievable. I used some compressed air pointed directly at the Mic’s from a distance and it worked. This after spending 1 hr rebooting, resetting. Thanks
I've been searching for over a month, I think 2 months now. Every morning my Google home stopped "hearing". I've moved it to a different part of the room to avoid interference from other wifi devices. I've done factory reset twice. Still, every morning device would stop hearing until some sort of reset was done. Hard reboot. Soft reboot. Factory Reset. Whatever. Than it would work. Until the next day. I checked voice recordings. Those done when device worked are fine. Clear as a bell. Those done when device doesn't hear are non existent. The device is 3 years old. Not abused. I contacted Google. They upped it to senior techs in California as this is so odd ( I'm in Toronto Canada) . The reason I'm posting this here is one of the comments ( I tagged you in it) the poster was having the same issue and it's the only place on the net I found anyone else having the issue. Google techs were looking into it, and as I said upgraded it to senior IT techs at head office even though device is 3 years old and warranty is 1 year, as it was so odd. So, as of Thursday evening/Friday morning, it's working!! Now, 2 things happened. Either, or, or both could have fixed things. A patch update came out Thursday evening, but I hadn't realized, and Thursday afternoon I had turned off Duo calling on the device as it was the last variable. I did get a call from Google California Saturday , but wasn't expecting it and missed it, and message just says it's the senior tech guy Is been working with on this issue and he'll call back. But I'd think the fact they had a senior tech at head office look into it, they get all the info they can from me, have me do things to the device while they see data on their end over the last 2 weeks, and an update comes out and suddenly things are working, that the issue was solved in the update. I'm posting this here because, as I said, this is the only thread anywhere I can find where someone had the same issue as me, just making sure anyone else searching will find the info in the same place.
Good idea to keep a can of compressed air handy and blow them out every so often, but don't stick the straw or nozzle directly in the mix holes. Keep some distance as the air blasts are pretty powerful.
Thanks for the video - exact same issue here in the UK and have been trying for week's to resolve (was considering replacing it). Found your video and followed the steps and now back working :-)
Wow, worked for me too. I initially turned it upside down and tapped it while plugged in, but it didn't work. I proceeded to unplug the cord from the bottom so I only had the speaker without the cord. I gave it a few solid taps, then hit the mic holes with some compressed air just in case, and that did the trick. Thanks!
Thanks for your information on how you got your Google Home to work again after not hearing you. I followed your advice and it works like new again. Thank you very much.
Thank you that fixed my problem! The two listening hole atop of the Google hone Device was clogged up with dust my wife had clean my area that’s went into those two little holes! Good video!!! 👍🏽👍🏽
Worked!!! Cleaned those mic points, worked afterward, just had some home remodeling done, saw dust must have gotten in there, even though it looked clean , working great now!! Thanks!
You are a live saver! Super star 🌟. Was battling with Google support for weeks to get this fixed but they never did. You should probably train Google support.
Today my Google Home stopped listening. Reset doesn't solved the issue. I found your video and tried to clean the mics of my Google Home with blowing air on the mics. Solved the issue...spooky :-)
Yesterday, my Google home mini just randomly stopped working. Not responding, no signs of life, cannot factory reset. Just nothing. Any idea? Google want me to send it back to them, and I don't feel like it...
The multicolor response lights on top of my Google Home 1st gen stopped responding after I accidentally dropped it on the carpet off of a shelf that is 1 and a half feet high. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I had lights but no microphone operation. The ribbon cable had pulled out slightly. I reseated it and it worked again. I am guessing when you hit the bottom the ribbon cable is reseating slightly. I am not sure it is a permanent fix. Sorry, I would do a UA-cam video. But, I don't know how. I also fixed another that we had because the solder joint on the base had broken. A little solder and it was good to go again. You can gen the T-6 screwdriver at Lowes or Homedepot. But, make sure it has a long bit. The screws you need to remove are recessed.
This Worked!!!! Thank You So Much!!!! Google Home needed it's ears cleaned and a gentle touch love padded rod of correction "grandma spanking" and now it behaves again. Just Wild.
I've been on with Google support for 10 days. They are useless. Your microphone is defective they said. Your warranty is expired they said. It needs to be replaced they said. Once they washed their hands if it I started looking at physical fixes and found this. 23 seconds later my Google Home rose from the dead, although it swears it never went anywhere. Thanks for this video.
cheers, initially it seems to have worked, and if it was dust, that would be right because my unit has been getting more unresponsive over the-last two months and dust attracts dust
Omg!!! The tapping and I just blew air into the 2 little holes to remove dust and Bam!! Can not believe you dude. I was like, “yeah right, sounds sketchy”. But I have to hand it to you. Lol
I have a mini and the problem with it is that, when i say something it lights up but never says anything i think speaker's got a problem please tell me what to do
I used compressed air to clean the mic and it doesn't work, after I watched this video, I flipped my google home and tapped the bottom, and it just works, that's unbelievable. Thanks
Genial!!! De verdad muchas gracias! Estaba desesperado por que Google no me respondia a la primera, tenia que repetir y repetir hasta que lo hacia. Gracias y saludos desde México.
Thanks for the vid. Didn't even occur to me to check the mic - I think because the stop in response was so abrupt! Gave a tap on the bottom and blew into the mic's to clear any dust and back in working order. :)
wow, I too reset it number of times to no avail, I even use different google account/phone to setup and same. After watching your video, I use duster and blew at the mic and VOLA!!! Thank you so much...almost brick the damn speaker...
I had the same problem. Going to Google activity it seems the mics were recording a lot of static noise. Nevertheless, this solution fixed things for me. I also tried letting Google home unplugged for like 5 minutes.
I have to admit I laughed mockingly at this video. Turn it upside down and beat it like a ketchup bottle and whipe off the mics huh? So ridiculous it worked... immediately. Lol. Thanks!!!
I am giving commands to my Google mini it hears me because the led's work but I get no verbal response i.e Hay Google turn on Tv and no go, it did work but not now
24/7/2023 AMAZING!! This repair still works! Fixed my Dad's Google Home as she had stopped listening to him! Thanks for making the video.

I got a similar answer, that's when I discovered this during my testing.
Wow, after weeks of research, resets, and unresponsiveness from my Home, I can't believe this was the solution. Thank you!
Glad it helped. I recorded this video because I didn't see anyone had a fix for this.

IT WORKED!! I really didn't think it would, but two taps on the bottom and blowing out the mic holes brought it back online! Thank you!
Did not think this could possibly work but wow. My Google Home is working after a month of being a piece of bedroom décor. Thank you very much!

OMG, I was going insane! I tapped and blew into the mic holes, and it instantly started working again.
So glad this worked for you. Me too

😆😂🤣
3:10 if you have a dirty house or just want to skip to the solution. But I think it heard him because it spelled out what he said.
Use this for my garage and it stopped hearing commands. I used compressed air and worked right away.
Thank you!
Thanks Mike. That's the only thing that worked for me.
Thanks for your information on how you got your Google Home to work again after not hearing you. I followed your advice and it works like new again. Thank you very much.

Yesterday, my Google home mini just randomly stopped working. Not responding, no signs of life, cannot factory reset. Just nothing.
Any idea?
Google want me to send it back to them, and I don't feel like it...
Did you try a reset?
The multicolor response lights on top of my Google Home 1st gen stopped responding after I accidentally dropped it on the carpet off of a shelf that is 1 and a half feet high. Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is actually really funny. I have a few of these in my house and one of them started not hearing anything. I have owned that particular one for over a year. I own an IT company and to be honest tapping things is not normal protocol. So I unplugged it and tapped it on the bottom and turned it back on and it worked. Now I also deleted my history for the myactivity portion as well so my mistake was to doing one at a time to actually really find out what was causing it the failure. Still Funny.... Tanks again for getting me to look at things in a different way. I wanted to take the thing apart.
Thank you, thank you, thank you...I tried everything to fix this issue and had no success until I watched your video!
Had exactly the same problem. I was fairly skeptical, but what do you know that actually works (patting it on the bottom when upsidedown) -- THANKs!
I can't imagine the issue is a dirty mic? I think there's more to this than that
The mics get covered with dust and it can't pick up voices. Thats how my troubleshooting drove me to this approach
You tried to tap on the google home head for 1 or 2 seconds? It activates without to say the wake word
Crazy as it may sound, IT WORKED for me! Spent an hour messing with google assistant settings and re-pairing my Goggle Home device to the network. Was looking at diy videos to take the device apart as a last resort, but stumbled on this video clip. Blew into mic and Q-tipped it abit..and Voila! Sweet sound of google assistant working again...
Unreal, tapping it on the bottom and just blowing out the mics totally worked. Thanks, thumbs up.
TheCallmegomez lol. I freaked out too
Hey, didn't work for me. However, The google home is a very simple device. If you take the base off, there are 4 small torx screws (T-6) around the parameter-with the device. Turn the device upside down with the base removed. looking down with the power plug at 12 o'clock. one screw at about 1:30 (hidden in the corner by the edge of the speaker. Two at 6 o'clock. and one more at about 10:30 (hidden again). No need to remove the 4 easily accessed screws on the top of the base. Remove the 4 screws around the parameter as explained above. Remove the black base from the white top. There is a ribbon cable that connects the board with the lights and mics in the white housing to the base. I had dropped my device.
I admit that I was skeptical but as soon as tapped the bottom and hit it with compressed air it worked again! Thanks for the tips!
Same problem with Google Home Mini. It has stopped responding to our commands. Any tips on fixing this?
Blowing hard at the mics worked, thanks :-)
This Worked!!!! Thank You So Much!!!! Google Home needed it's ears cleaned and a gentle touch love padded rod of correction "grandma spanking" and now it behaves again. Just Wild.
Oh wow, fixed mine in a matter of seconds. Cheers dude!
Can't believe this worked. Tapped the bottom and didn't even need the qtip trick. Thanks for this easy tip.
Turned it updside down, tapped it and boom it's working again. Thanks!
Tapped the bottom twice and cleared the mic holes. It worked !! Thanks :)
Worked for me! I blew into the mics as well and fired right up. Thank you!
Brad glad it worked. I had a similar experience and that drove me to make the video.
Omg I cannot believe all it needed was to clean the mics.
Thank you so much
Thanks, I was surprised that it worked. I had tried everything that I could think of and I had no success. Great video.
I have the JBL Link 20 speaker and it is not listening to m commands. Please help
cheers, initially it seems to have worked, and if it was dust, that would be right because my unit has been getting more unresponsive over the-last two months and dust attracts dust
OMG 😮! Thank u so much!! I did what u said and my google home speaker is back to working now!! 👍🙏 cheers!
Thanks
It worked. BTW, where did you get that battery?
Thanks dude! Blowing on the microphones worked for me. I wonder if you used a vacuum cleaner on the mic's would work as well?
That's what did it for me ! Tapping, blowing air on it and trying to clean the mic didn't work. But tried the vacuum and boom ! Thanks for that idea !
Well I didn't expect that to work. Thanks great video
Totally worked for me. I was almost sending it back!!! After hours of resets and setting up.
Thanks!!!
It really worked. Thanks for taking ur precious time to give this amazing simple tip. God bless u.
Wow, actually worked just tapping on it and blowing at the mic.
Genial!!! De verdad muchas gracias! Estaba desesperado por que Google no me respondia a la primera, tenia que repetir y repetir hasta que lo hacia. Gracias y saludos desde México.
Thanks for the video! My Google home is responsive again! Yay!
Omg!! Thank you! Just blew on the mic and it worked
Thanks for the info, worked perfectly after cleaning out both mics.
Dude! That worked, I just blew in the holes. It came back to life!!!
Thank you this worked, I just turned it upside down and tapped it several times 😊
This worked, thanks a lot!! edit: eek, stopped working after last night. Thanks for getting it to work for me temporarily with your advice, anyhow!
You are such a genius! Thanks for the tips
Thank you it works, Everyone skip to 2:36 to find out how to fix this problem
What about home mini?
I had the same problem. Going to Google activity it seems the mics were recording a lot of static noise. Nevertheless, this solution fixed things for me. I also tried letting Google home unplugged for like 5 minutes.
Thank you!!! I tried everything and this simple fix was the one that helped and got it working
Awesome! Got my Google Home to work again... THANK YOU!!!
It works thank you! Mom is happy! :)
Wow thanks for that video very helpful. I did that to my google and it’s working fine now. 😀👍✌️
I have to admit I laughed mockingly at this video. Turn it upside down and beat it like a ketchup bottle and whipe off the mics huh? So ridiculous it worked... immediately. Lol. Thanks!!!
My mini won’t listen to “hey google” but will listen to “okay google”
All of my devices plus my wife’s phone are no longer responding. Seems more like an update issue than a dirty one.
Google support super unhelpful! Thanks for the tip. I blew mine with an air can, and all of a sudden, it worked.
Ok thank you!! I tapped on the bottom and it worked! I wish all my problems were this easy 😂❤ thank you thank you!
Followed your instructions and it starting working. Crazy! TY
This worked for me.Thanks very much for this video.Thumbs up
Worked after following your instructions. Thanks a ton! 👌
Old school solution: turned it upside-down and whacked the top on a wood table a few times
I am giving commands to my Google mini it hears me because the led's work but I get no verbal response i.e Hay Google turn on Tv and no go, it did work but not now
Cheers dude this totally worked for my speaker. Your a STAR!
Had same problem. Your solution worked (turning it upside down)
It was dust in the mic’s, who would’ve known. Thanks!
