Rewatching this after the launch of the iPhone 14 lineup. This guy started it all. Again, within almost 6 years MKBHD's channel improved as much as the iPhones!
I have an idea, what if the Apple logo on the back becomes a touch ID button for the next iPhone, then Apple could keep its aesthetic while being more functional.

Just a thought: The justification, "it's 2017" can be indicative that Apple is content with catching up to 2017 standards over setting the 2018 ones

Combined with a mediocre screen, OS, and camera, it just wasn't a serious competitor to the iPhone X. Which is why the iPhone X is one of the best selling phones of all time, and the PH1 is forgotten.
The S10 was one of the first Android phones to finally surpass the iPhone in build quality and design. That phone came out 18 months after the iPhone X.

I went to the T-Mobile store and watched a video on the X and was like “ wtf “ I’m glad I got the 8+

@@hellbryan1299 I’m not necessarily hating, I am literally writing this from my iPhone 14, and I don’t think any other companies have improved a lot more in this time frame. I guess what I really meant to say was it surprises me how safe Apple has played it with their design language over all of these years, with the only major changes being the flat edges and the camera. When I think of 2017, I have this image in my mind of iPhone 6s and galaxy s7’s with their massive bezels and “old” technology, and how much more sleek and advanced our 2023 phones are.

I absolutely agree! The X is a great leap forward. I came from a Note 5 to an iPhone 5s while I waited to get the iPhone7 plus. I much preferred the social aspects of the 5s over the self gratifying multitude of personalization of the note 5. The switch to the 7 from the 5s was less noticeable to me, considering they both functioned the same and had minor feature differences. The 7 plus had an obvious larger screen, which made it a plus. Other than that it was very much the same as the 5s.
Having the X now, I am loving it! The notches, for me, add to the phone, rather than create an annoyance. Learning the new "controls" seemed to come naturally; I quickly found myself trying to use my work 7 the way a X functions and I became annoyed by the older way of doing things. The notches add straight forward swiping points and the upward swipe is what made the 7 annoying to use. I love swiping up to close permanently and temporarily.
The added features, AR and facial recognition aren't a major factor for me. The screen and how the phone commands work, make the X more streamlined and hard to go back to an older version. The social side of iPhone is why I couldn't go to any other OS. Droid phones had to many distracting features and were antisocial in the fact that people can easily be caught up in there own phone decorating their screen and text messages were limited to a certain number of characters.

When I bought my iPhone 8 plus I had the chance to buy the X version with a little more money, but I didn’t because we were used to the familiar iPhone shape and I thought the new shape wouldn’t success without the home button (I was thinking inside the box like people won’t easily get red of the home button) and never thought of an alternative way to function as the home button on the other hand however I knew that this shape (X) is revolutionary and the future of iPhones shape and now after 3 years from first lunching the new shape I see it normal and familiar it’s just your need to be used to it.
