Bubba, I don't think the old weaver detachable side mount sits quite as high as does the Promag, do you think that will give me any trouble with it comes to cleaning the rifle and shell ejection? Also, what do you think about cutting the barrel off to 17-18", it sure would make the rifle handle better?

ChuckHydro The height I have the Promag mount leaves just enough room to roll the bolt out for cleaning with out having to remove the mount so I think you will have to remove the weaver mount every time you clean the rifle. If you square off the ejection port you will not need to worry about shells hitting your optic; if you do it right the casings will eject at about 2 o'clock. In my opinion I think cutting down the barrel is a bad idea as you will loose velocity and hider accuracy for the sake of a couple of inches.
In any case let me know how it all works out for you. Cheers!

Van Isle Gunnut Thanks Van, I appreciate all the info you have furnished me. I just saw a paratrooper model (17" barrel I believe) here on UA-cam that looked like it would make a great quick, short little rifle. No more powder than the little cartridge uses I didn't figure the velocity loss would be of any great consideration, probably not going to shoot it much more than 200 yds. anyway, thanks a bunch and the best to you my friend for the info!
