Great cook. Would love to see a reverse sear steak video. One of my concerns with the El Patron is closest distance from raising grate to cooking grids is 6”. Seems kind of far for reverse sear. Other than that this is a very tempting pit purchase.
TriTip cooled as a brisket is insanely good. Just like brisket. We make it often because as a family of small size (only us parents eat beef) so it eats well without trying to figure out how to handle all of the leftovers.
Pulled tri-tip?! You're a mad man, Greg! I don't know why, but tri-tip is one of my favorite meats to BBQ. Just made a Costco 2-pack with a dry rub on the PBC for Father's Day and it was outstanding!
A nice big chicken on the rotisserie would be nice to see…. Love this El Patron cooker, thanks for sharing Greg!!….(just wish LSG had a distributor in Canada….)
Greg... nice work... maybe I missed it, but what was the internal temperature when you took it off? I know it's more of a "feel" thing with the probe and all, but was it upwards of 200* internal? Thanks vs
Cmon man. I waited 6 months for my Lone Star pellet Grillz to show up, based solely on your videos. Now 2 weeks later I guess I am going to have to start shopping for my next, a Patron. You’re killing me. 😊
🙌 Very interesting cook. I’m from the North East and we don’t normally see Tri-Tip roasts but been wanting to do a pulled roast beef for a while. Beef has been so expensive. I like the simplicity to your cook. The smoker seems interesting….wish you had more details on the setup for the getting the temp right. Minion method for the briskets? And the water pan. I’ve used the a Weber Smokey Mountain ( WSM) for years. And have recently switched to a kamato egg style smoker for its flexibility. Still exploring and learning.
Sup Greg, great idea, really great cook👍. I did one different because I over grilled it, was well-done so be rock hard, I then put it in crockpot with half stick butter, Worcestershire sauce and more rub.. was delicious mistake lol. I now grill chuck before put in crockpot that way for pulled beef.. served well no teeth lol. Need a food stand in side Rd and sell.. great video bro, tyvm tc
Years ago when I was working and grilling less I did a tri-tip in a crockpot that you only put a packet of onion soup mix and a small jar of grape jelly. It ended up shredding well but was bland for sandwiches, and with a little adjustment of some garlic and some spice heat it was decent pulled pork beef sandwiches when the weather was bad probably haven’t made it since I picked up another Weber Kettle 👍
Great video Greg. Curious why you don't use a meat thermometer probe rig in your meats to monitor the temps. Not that it has affected the results of your cooks because you always seem to nail it. We appreciate your efforts and always learn from them. Thanks again for what you do!
@@BallisticBBQ can't wait! I felt this video was like a call back to the OG ballistic BBQ. I love seeing the whole BBQ process from the late nights to early mornings. Cheers!!
Ok, so lately I've done pulled pork, pulled beef (chuck roast) and yesterday I did a pulled chicken. I've been making sandwiches, Enchiladas and tacos with the meat. Now, you do this?? Since I love tri tip and have one in the freezer I must try this.
Just when I thought I had seen it all on UA-cam BBQ and you go and pull a stunt like pulled Tri-tip………AND TOTALLY TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL!!!! You rule Greg.
What about doing a clone of the Cold Springs Tavern Tri-tip Sandwich w/apple horseradish, salsa and BBQ sauce? That new cooker would seem perfect for that type of cook.
Great video, I'm really liking the all-in-one aspect of this. Usually with all in ones it's a jack of all trades but master of none, but seems so far it's batting just fine with the big boys. Looking forward to more videos. Do you think this has potential to be a forever grill?
I buy tritip allllllllll the time, and I did this morning at about 8am this morning…. Before I saw this when it came across my YT feed….. I was planning on Sous vide for this one I just bought, I always do the 135 for mid rare, sear, rest and eat…. Or sear, rest put in the fridge until the next day and slice thin for French dip sandwiches….. I’ve not thought of doing a pulled version…. So this will have to happen next cook…. Here in Ft. worth TX tritip must not be as cheap as in Cali…. Bcuz this one I bought was $25 and was 2.75lbs… our Chuck roasts are far cheaper…. My corn on the cob I just bought was $0.25 per ear…. So I got 10 for $2.50 lol…. It’s crazy the price difference is from place to place… A year ago this time I got an entire case of corn (48 ears) for $2.40….. yes $0.05 per ear…. Price fluctuation is wild. Anyways. Your cook looks amazing, I’ve watched your channel for so long I can’t even remember, it started on my Roku, easily 8-9yrs ago…. Keep it coming!
Dang, that looks delicious Greg! Do you remember what the temp was before you wrapped it? The stout beer was a great braising liquid too. Awesome cook! Cheers!
Yes, but could you be a little more specific? I showed the charcoal basket, the damper settings and showed that the charcoal grate was being used as a defuser. What else would help?
Can you cook a beef Shoulder Clod on it like you’ve done in the past on your pellet grill? I wonder how it would handle that monster cut. Thanks for another great video!
Great video, thanks! I'm wondering if I can hang ribs in one of these. This is so versatile, but I really want to hang ribs. Maybe from the rotisserie spit (not active, just there). What do you think?
Here is an option, I live in middle GA a Florida transplant from 1970. But wild game? Turtle, quail, dove, gator and my favorite frog legs...can you do a real Southern cook that includes 3 of these?
Having switched from Qstoves to Asmoke, I can confidently say that my outdoor grilling experience has been elevated. The Asmoke pellet grill's precise temperature control is a game-changer, allowing me to cook my meat to perfection every time. The fact that I can use different flavored wood pellets to enhance the taste of my food is fantastic. Plus, its portability is a major bonus, I've taken it camping and even on road trips. It's also environmentally friendly, using wood pellets made from recycled materials. I love that it's not just a grill, but also a smoker, roaster, and baker. The convenience of the automated control and pellet feeding system is unmatched by Qstoves. Most importantly, the rechargeable battery system allows me to grill anywhere, anytime. Asmoke truly changed the way I do outings. #Asmoke.
Looks Delicious. A creamy horseradish sauce like at Arby’s Would be great also I think A Hawaiian Huli Style Rotisserie Chicken would be great on that Pit also w/ Mesquite lump. Cheers 🥂 Thank you so much for your Lessons Stay Cool 😎.
Loved the cook but as it was supposed to be about the cooker I would love it if you showed more about the setup rather than the food as we all know what pulled beef is
I did an entire video on just the cooker with no food at all. Now I'm shooting videos on what it can do. What would you have liked to see that would have made this video better?
Hi Greg, thank you for your response I think in all honesty I never had any major issues with the video but as I live in the UK and am very interested in the El Patron I would like to see some more information on how it sets up for varying cook styles at the beginning of each cook so that it can assist any potential purchase as the shipping costs will obviously make the unit quite expensive. Gary
I did this video fully expecting to piss a few people off! I questioned whether I should do it or not, since I used to get bugged at seeing "tri tip cooked like brisket" videos. This was so cheap, that I thought I'd go for it. There are so many regular tri tip vids out there.
@@BallisticBBQ yessir so very true about the regular videos on tri-tip, do not worry I have done the same thing even when I lived next door to Santa Maria as an experiment years ago. I did a video review of the Badger ua-cam.com/video/TcfiKsqh07Y/v-deo.html. It's not a "forever grill" but for the money it's pretty good. If that's the budget you're working with, I think it's great.
You need to give us a backyard tour. It always looks like you're in the jungle LOL (In a good way)
Agree, also include a tour of your cookers.
Awesome cook Greg! Pulled Tri-tip? That took BALLS. Great job! Look forward to seeing you do a brisket or beef plate ribs on that cooker next!
I’ve done it but with salsa in the wrap. It’s good but not my favorite
Wow Greg, maybe I can get rid of some of the stuff on the patio and just have a Partron😉

I know this is not an offset. Would you be able to do a wood only smoke on a brisket?
Yes, I plan on demonstrating more of those "traditional" BBQ cooks.
I'll have mine sliced if possible please. 12:10

Honest though, what's your thoughts on the flavor vs an offset?
