  • Hello UA-cam!!! Welcome to the fourth episode of Robert’s Recharged Megacollabs! For this episode, we are going to be ranking Massive Attack’s third album, Mezzanine! Anyways, enjoy!!!
MY THOUGHTS: Ah yes, arguably the most influential album in all of trip hop and for very good reason. What I love about this album is, of course, its dark atmosphere and how instantly hypnotizing and intoxicating it is to me. It’s honestly amazing how these guys managed to make the combination of softness and grittiness work throughout, especially on tracks like Angel, Dissolved Girl, and Teardrop (a.k.a. the popular one lmao). On top of that, all of the tracks here are absolute winners in my book, and man don’t even get me started with these vocalists who do an amazing job as well, especially Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins fame on the aforementioned Teardrop. Nothing much more for me to go on about this one, it’s just an excellent project that has aged like the finest of wine there is, even 26 years later.
    RATING: 9/10

REVIEW: This is an absolute epiphanal electronic album of the nineties. It basically defines the gritty and intense sound that Trip Hop morphed into and honestly there's not a single track I dislike; however, the inclusion of "(Exchange)" is a bit questionable. The vocalists on this album are also incredible, with my personal favourites being Horace Andy. This album also works really well as a cohesive album and listening experience, even though Teardrop actually kind of kills the mood in my opinion. Decent song but shouldn't have been on the album, and I can't help but rank it criminally low. I'll shut up now, good album anyways.
    RATING: 9/10

REVIEW: It’s good. Y’all already know that. These guys really took quite the leap from the more vibey focus of Blue Lines and Protection and made an insanely dark and spacious listen that sounds rather out of this world to say the very least. It may be the most ambitious trip hop album to date and I think it’s a freaking masterpiece. There’s a massive (no pun intended) blend of trip hop with ambient, sampling, rock among other things and all these influences blended together make every track on here feel like their own different world that is insanely easy to get lost in. I don’t really have much more to add here. It’s worth a listen even if you’re not even all that into trip hop imo
    RATING: 10/10

REVIEW: Fantastic album ngl. The whole thing just has this dark and desolate vibe that I absolutely love, and it has aged very well for an electronic album from 1998; it's a classic for good reason.
    RATING: 9/10

REVIEW: It was a bit hard to choose what to rank to every spots, because this album is so great that every song could switch spots easely. I love the dark, unsettling mood of this record with stunning vocals who can be angsty to pretty calm, with a absolute great production across the board. My only problem is that it feel a bit long, and some tracks sounds too similar, like Black Milk and Exchange who is sadly not a great finish for me. So yeah, this album is great and a classic for the trip hop.
    RATING: 8/10

    MORE REVIEWS:
ALSONIK: "Massive Attack - Mezzanine" is the first time I've listened to it and it's a great album. I thought it would be a bit shaped and undeveloped. I used to treat trip-hop in a negative way, as I used to compare it to ambient and downtempo. I guess the first two Massive Attack albums will be good as well.
Exchange (track 5 and 11) are very beautiful compositions, enveloping you with lightness and inspiration. I can imagine walking through a dark city on a rainy night.
Teardrop (track 3) is a sweet track with a nice flavour, the gentle vocals and mixolydian harmonies do the trick. The music video is repulsive, but okay.
PenguKing: Some really great trip-hop stuff from front to back! Wasn’t sure about this one from my first listen, but I found it immediately clicked with me on the second. It has a very dark, gritty vibe to it that may have put me off initially, but each track delivers really great vocals, features, and outstanding production, from the banging drums, to the awesome basslines. Strong highlights include “Risingson”, “Man Next Door”, “Angel”, and especially “Teardrop”. I can definitely see this one growing on me even more to become a classic (decimal score would be an 8.3-8.5/10).

@@AidenDaniels-xj5cw Because the old name was taken from Rob’s name and his brother’s name who used to be featured on this channel a lot back in the day, but is hardly featured nowadays which was why Rob decided to change the channel name
