    I spent 3 weeks in Iceland and half of that time in the Westfjords. Once I got there I couldn't make myself leave. You are living a dream. I'll never forget sitting by the water, completely alone watching whales feed in a bay. No traffic noise. Just the wind. Stunning county

      I just visited and intend to move there. It's like living used to be 40 years ago. When is unknown, but I hope to move the pieces into place.
      Anyway, the point of my reply was the incredible silence that I heard walking through the mountains. No birds, no motors/engines, just the wind. Perplexing, yet so amazingly satisfying and pure.

    Don`t see myself living in such a remote village for a longer period of time- but I would definitely like to visit Iceland as a tourist. I grew up in a small place myself, moved to Oslo at the age of 22 for studies. NO intention of going back in the near future. I guess I have become an urban person, I would be very easily bored down there now, few people around. At the same time, I am able to enjoy solitude and beautiful nature if I want to, as there are plenty of hiking opportunities in the vast woodlands north of the Oslo. So I would say that I need both the energy and the diversity of people in the city AND every now and then the solitude of going into the woods, whenever I have to "clear my mind".. Greetings from Oslo

    Been to the South Coast and Snaefellsnes last summer, going to visit the East Fjords and the North coming winter, West Fjords and the Highlands some day.
    Thanks for peeking in your way of life.
    And although I love the idea of living in Iceland, the long(-er) darkness in winter would stop me, I feel our Dutch darkness in winter is as long as I can bare 😁

    I worked fairly hard for years, firefighter, and locomotive mechanic, I have had most everything that is deemed as "successful living". As in my own businesses, Mercedes, the 4 bedroom home in the gated community, Harleys, campers, trucks and pretty much everything else but one day I walked in to work and handed them my company cell phone quit without notice and over the next month sold everything I owned, bought a new backpack packed 2 pair of fav jeans, 5 tees and one of my friends drove me to the airport. 3.5 years later I am in Thailand, fairly happy and getting fat. Not sure this is the end destination though, I am not fulfilled there is a hiraeth burning in me and I do not know what to do.
    oh and the answer is yes to would I live there. If they need a crusty old world curmudgeon mechanic that can fix anything give me a shout.. :)

    Don't know that I'll ever get there, honestly I wouldn't mind visiting. Never been any farther than London (which I did like) My closest comparison to Iceland is probably the Bavarian Alps, which I spent a week dwelling in the middle of one early winter in 1981. But that also came with a bit of thunder and lightning for that week, and not entirely. Anyway, hopefully one day I'll get there. Beautiful place!!

    • @colors6692
      @colors6692 3 роки тому

      Strange as there has never been 24 hours of sun on any day ever in Iceland!! Max of 21 in June though. Reason: No part of Iceland is far enough north to be in the Artic Circle!!! Are you sure it is Iceland you have been to😂

    • @colors6692
      @colors6692 3 роки тому +1

      @Grim FPV incorrect. Northern Norway is further north and is in the Artic Circle. That’s what the Artic Circle means. It is the area in which at least 1 day has 24 hour sunlight/ 24 night. The further north you go the more days are like this. There is no part of Iceland in the Artic Circle. Most of Greenland, northern Norway, Sweden and Finland are however.

    • @colors6692
      @colors6692 3 роки тому

      @Grim FPV From Wikipedia:The position of the Arctic Circle is not fixed and currently runs 66°33′48.5″ north of the Equator

    • @colors6692
      @colors6692 3 роки тому

      @Grim FPV No you don't. But hey don't let facts get in the way of your life. Seriously though, just wanting something to be true or being mistaken about something does not make it a fact!!

    • @colors6692
      @colors6692 3 роки тому

      @Grim FPV From Wikipedia: The 63rd parallel north is a circle of latitude that is 63 degrees north of the Earth's equatorial plane. It crosses the Atlantic Ocean, Europe, Asia and North America.
      At this latitude the sun is visible for 20 hours, 19 minutes during the summer solstice and 4 hours, 43 minutes during the winter solstice.
