What is Link’s darkest secret? Is the Hero of Time’s story much darker than what was originally thought? Or maybe I’m just over thinking it all. But enjoy this theory about Link, the Hero of Time, and the Hero’s Shade!

daily reminder that the Hero of Time had the shitest life out of all the Links
    > Mother dies trying to save his life, father is nowhere to be seen (presumably died in the Hyrulean civil war)
    > Spends the first 9/10 years of his life raised by a tree, bullied by other residents of the forest with only a single friend
    > actually gets a fairy and makes a new friend
    > Is summoned by tree to dump hero's destiny crap on his head and asks Link to save his life
    > Despite his best efforts, the Great Deku Tree, the closest thing Link has to a father figure, dies.
    > Is told to leave his childhood home and his only friend behind to explore and save a world he barely knows
    > Meets up with the princess and they both devise a plan to screw over that shifty looking Gerudo King.
    > Whoops, turns out that plan to screw over that ginger-haired dickhole had the opposite effect and Link just doomed the world to Ganondorf and his horrible future mullet.
    >also Zelda is now missing
    > Not only that, but Link is forced into a coma for seven years, so when he does wake up, Link is essentially a child in the body of a young man
    > Goes through The fucking WATER TEMPLE
    > The less mentioned about whatever the fuck Deadhand is the better.
    > FINALLY meets up with a friendly face in Zelda, only for pointy-nosed douche-canoe to kidnap her 2 seconds later
    > Storms Ganon's Tower gives the Pig-faced asshat a new face piercing and restores peace to Hyrule
    > Is basically told by Zelda "Thanks for the help, but we can take it from here. enjoy all this basically being undone because I'm sending you back in time".
    > So yes, Zelda basically reversed all of Links heroics (i.e. fixing her mistakes) by making him "re-live his childhood"
    > After he returns his fairy, his closest friend, leaves him.
    > Link then goes to Zelda and warns her to watch that shifty ginger twat because he's planning treason
    > Decides that he can't stay in Hyrule anymore and leave in hopes of finding his fairy friend
    >Majora's Mask happens
    > After that emotionally damaging time-loop clusterfuck, Link presumably returns to Hyrule and starts a family (Twilight Princess Link had to come from somewhere) maybe gets some peace for a few years
    > The Hyrulean-Gerudo war starts (which is basically his fault)
    > Is either drafted or volunteers for war, given his skills, becoming a knight
    >Given that The Hero's Shade is in Damaged armour with an eye missing, it can be presumed that the Hero of Time's end came in battle
    > Also, since the Hero's Shade has the appearance of the stalfos, He could have been (ironically) killed in the Forest, the place where he was raised
    > The Hero of Time then becomes forgotten, all of his heroics, Saving two kingdoms, Fighting in the war. The only solace he gets is that one day he gets to teach his descendant some cool (and slightly game-breaking) sword techniques

      You're not wrong
Also I've seen a theory about how Link becomes a Stalfos-looking character. Link fights until he can fight no more. He decides to go back to Lost Woods to look for Navi one last time, but he dies, and his ghost, being lost, becomes a Stalfos. He decides to return to Termina to appease Captain Keeta's request and inform the King that the War is over. The King soothes the Hero's soul with the Elegy of Emptiness. This creates the Hero's Shade. Afterwards, he goes and waits for his Descendant so he can teach him his true skills. This is the theory about the creation of the Hero's Shade

"Before he passes into the next realm, the Hero's Shade stays behind a while longer to watch over his descendant one last time. His chest, now released of any lingering regret, swells with pride as he observes what his young hero has become. Sheding one last tear for his flesh and blood, he departs, his battle-worn... armoured clut image fading to resemble the one of the hero he used to be: The Hero of Time."
    Time Link truly has the most tragic of destinies of all the Links within the Zelda universe. His actions influence pretty much every timeline, regardless whether they are intentional or not. But at the end of it all, he rightfully carries the title of Hero of Time, because while he does cause disaster indirectly, he also sacrifices everything to ensure those disasters do not repeat themselves, thus making him a Hero. And the fact that those sacrifices transcent time itself, it makes him the Hero of Time;
the Hero whose sacrifice and actions transcent the flow of time and guarantee a bright future to the land he so loves.
The most tragic hero... but also the most noble one.

It's cuter when you know that Malon was dreaming of a knight in shining armor to take her away. (According to a Gossip Stone) He may not be an official knight, or in shining armor, but a time traveling warrior who has saved the world about 3 times is close enough, no?
Also their bond might have increased in the child timeline because he ended up taking Epona (at a young age even, which is a huge show of faith in his ability to take care of her)

I don't buy the fact that Link was absent from Hyrule during his journey in Termina for THAT long. When Link left Termina, he was still just a kid. Implying that he came back to Hyrule directly after he saved Termina, he'd either be back before this whole Gerudo/Hylian War started, or the conflict would last many years, continuing towards Link's adulthood. Judging by his missing right eye and the kind of armor he's wearing, I'm assuming that those aren't just things he's picked up while traveling through different lands, but by direct involvement in this cataclysmic war.

The only thing that hints at possible repression or genocide is the shadow temple, and it’s never said that the Gerudo back Ganondorf, which this theory suggests is the reason for he Gerudo genocide and disappearance. In fact Nabooru states that because he steals from and kills women and children that they don’t respect him or consider him their king.

The more likely reason they'd commit genocide on the gerudo, is an attempt to keep ganon from being reborn again since lore wise at the time ganon is stated to almost always be born from the gerudo tribe.

Who can imagine 6 movies of The Legend of Zelda split into 2 trilogies
The movies would have an even bigger scale than the Lord of the Rings.
The music would be an epic Lord of the Rings-like rendition of original Zelda music.
The first trilogy would be the
    THE HERO OF TIME TRILOGY
    and the second would be
    THE HERO OF TWILIGHT TRILOGY.
    1. The Legend of Zelda: The Three Stones
    2. The Legend of Zelda: The Master Sword
    3. The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Time
    4. The Legend of Zelda: The Fused Shadows
    5. The Legend of Zelda: The Ancient Evil
    6. The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Twilight
Everything would have a Medieval feel to it and the Characters would speak different languages similar to Tolkien Elvish languages Quenya or Sindarin.
The violence would be raw and without
    shaky-camera.

Just a little "Hmm..." to pass out.
Impa has a tattoo over her left eye.
The Hero's Shade lost his right eye.
Assuming the bit about the Gossip Stones being re-purposed into the Howling Stones is true, they have physically had their "eyes" punched out through the center.

    • @LatinoFiestero
      @LatinoFiestero 9 років тому

That's a good theory about Link's eye. But Impa only has her tattoo on her eye in Hyrule Warriors, which is confirmed being non canon. The Impa from Ocarina of Time technically has small tattoos on both her eyes but you get my point

I am blown away by the phenomenal quality of this theory and by its implications. Literally the ONLY complaint I have is with regard to the portrait in Snowpeak Mansion. It's too blurry for me to make out anything more than a vaguely humanoid shape holding a rectangular object. That isn't to say that it definitely ISN'T Impa, as is suggested; rather, it is to say that we can't be certain either way. Otherwise, this whole theory strikes me as entirely plausible.
The thing that gets me the most about it, though, is that it adds a whole new dimension to the title "Hero of Time." Not only do we have a hero who literally traveled through time to save Hyrule from Ganondorf's clutches, but we have a hero who, through careful forethought and planning, saw to it that his successor - the Hero of Twilight - would have the necessary tools and skills to thwart Ganondorf once more. Thus it can be argued that the Hero of Time saved the kingdom not once, but twice... In different time periods. The Hero of Time is thus a hero for ALL time.
Another especially cool thing about this theory is that it portrays the Hero of Time as somebody who, despite his considerable skills and knowledge, isn't completely infallible. I doubt he could have predicted that the Royal Family and the Gerudo would be on the warpath after he warned Zelda about Ganondorf's plot; rather, I think he would have felt that greatly bolstering security around the Temple of Time would have been sufficient. Had he known that his warning would lead to a brutal war and the slaughter of almost an entire race, I think the Hero of Time would have dealt with it differently.
Once more, superb work! This was an exceptionally well thought out theory, taking into account as much evidence as possible.

Maybe the music that you sing in that order tells on the passing of the OoT's spirit.
I mean the first song you sing is the song of healing that could be him coping with the fact that he died and accepting it.
Then we get to to Requiem of Spirits. Since a Requiem means passing of a spirit he can finally get the rest he needs and alot like the first one but the fact he can move on.
Next the Prelude of Light. This could signify that he is moving on and is starting to see the light that this Twilight Hero can succeed and beat Ganondorf also it may mean that he is finally passing into Heaven or something of that matter.
Then Goron and Zelda's lullaby can both kinda mean the same thing that his spirit is sent to rest after seeing that he was able to pass on his ways to this new hero after so long.
Then the Ballad of Gales this might mean that his legacy as the Hero Of Time might be passed on to generation to generation or as "passed by the wind" and he might never be forgotten by the Hero Of Twilight.
And lastly the Twilight Princess theme. This might mean that he has accepted that its time for the Twilight Hero to take the mantel and take his turn on defeating ganon and letting him become the new hero after finally passing everything that he had to.
Thanks for reading and like and comment if you have any opinions on my theory :)

  • @DTylerFultzVA
    @DTylerFultzVA 5 років тому +1

This video was a real eye-opener for me in terms as to what the Hero's Shade is like as a character and just how tragic the Hero of Time was.
Despite his best efforts, Hyrule is unguarded against Ganon in one timeline and ravaged by civil war in another. He went away for a short time only to come back to a home he barely recognized. He wanted to finish what he started, but wouldn't live long enough to do so. He likely loved one woman, but was forced to walk away because their relationship could never be the same.
The Hero is not just a common ghost--he's a tormented soul haunted both by his actions and inability to act at the same time. He is helpless to do anything himself, and yet sees hope in his descendant.

This is one heck of an awesome theory. While blaming link necessarily for a war isn't exactly fair, it does go to show how messed up the whole situation was. While Ganondorf didn't become a god, at least that is the way I see it, he still more or less leveled Hyrule until a united army was formed. What's more, when the hero of time finally returned, he discovered that all he had ever went through had all been for nothing. That in of itself would be a crushing thought. Lovely theory. Instant fave.

The one thing that I never quit understood(maybe I just missed it), is how the hero of time knew that the hero of twilight would be turned into a wolf. The rest makes sense; leaving his bow behind, his tunic, the path to the sword, and everything. But the howling stones are designed specifically for wolves and the hero of time takes the form of a wolf himself. How did he know? Did he see though time and witnessed it?... and was he the one who left behind the prophesy that Midna heard so she would go with him? How would he get the prophesy into the twilight? Or did he just magically engineer the wolf so the howling stones could only be activated by a super intelligent wolf.

+M. Productions Maybe I can answer that for you, the answer lieas in a Link to the Past, again, I am not a supporter of the " official" timeline, where it states that ALttP happens before the original LoZ. There is a ton of evidence supporting that ALttP is the sequel to Twilight Princess, I'll keep it strict to the Ocarina since it would take me over half an hour to talk about that other topic, by the way, thank you, when you mentioned "The Heroes Grave" it pretty much cinched it for me. The second most powerful item in the series doesn't just dissapear, if the hero perished in the forest, the odds are he had the Ocarina with him at the time, he would not have parted with something given to him by his beloved Zelda. Now what are the abilities of the Ocarina of Time?:
*One of the five keys to the sacred realm
      *The ability to manipulate time
*It can remove the stones left by the Goddess of time
*It can heal the souls of the dead
Among others, here are the two that matter right now:
*THE ABILITY TO MANIPULATE ALL BEAST
*THE ABILITY TO SUMMON WINGED ONES TO CARRY HIM OVER LONG DISTANCES
I think you already figured it out, the Ocarina was with him or was lost in the forest near him upon his death, where it was found by a wondering forest boy from Kakariko, who took it and charmed the forest animals to his tune. This boy, ill fated by his lust for the golden power buried it before setting off, and having met with a terrible fate, was eventually found by the Hero of Legend(ALttP), who recovered his precious "Flute", and honoring his last request played his song once more, giving him peace...or healing his soul, sound familiar?
I feel pretty strong about this one, but I am always opened to anything that can enlightened me, your video brought alot of things that had escaped my atention, but that's part of the journey :) . And I am thankfull to see that there are people like you and your friends who use in-game evidence only to formulate their theories. Just if you need to bring anything to my atention, please don't use: "It's a cameo" or "It's paying tribute to previous games" cause if we did that like more than half the theories could be invalidated on the spot.

+AngieD1993 Seeing how friendly Zelda and midna were in Twilight Princess, this makes sense. Zelda could've told Midna about here visions because Midna didn't know about Link being the "chosen".

    • @CinderDill
      @CinderDill 9 років тому +3

+AngieD1993 The problem with that is that those visions are almost always Links nightmares, not Zelda's. Zelda seems to get feed information or is well learned. They both seem to have some power of foresight but mostly just to announce that Ganon is on the move(so to speak). In OoT it's up to Link to give her the information of Ganon's attack. She didn't foresee it, she only knew that he was gonna betray them somehow. For your theory to work, a proper psychic must have given them the information. Maybe the guardian spirits(which Zelda has a connection with) or the goddesses or maybe Impa if you buy into the whole Impa-has-the-tetra-force-of-time theory. Then taking that information and passing it down like you said and having the hero set up the howling stone.
Also, I don't think they would have risked opening the portal to the twilight realm after Ganon killed a sage and was banished. So the story of the great beast would've had to have been sent before Ganon was sent over. Which means that they knew it wasn't going to work and were just setting everything up for the next generation to deal with it. :) such morals*(I kid)

Is link really the hero we believe him to be? Yes, yes he is! I mean he's not perfect. But who is? =D
And you know, it's kind of strange that people use dark as if darkness is scary, evil, grim, or unnatural. But there's no need to be afraid of the dark, and it is not a negative or unnatural thing. I never could understand why. =/
This is just a philosophical thought, but if darkness has been around ever since the beginning of everything before anything else, is all around us, and there is even inside of us (I imagine it gets pretty dark inside of our bodies. I don't think we have light bulbs inside of us), isn't darkness one of the most natural and non-evil things out there? =o
And night time is actually one of the most peaceful times for most people. It's when we rewind, recharge, and heal. Can't people just say what they mean? Could have easily said "grim" there, you know. l=/

      M. Productions I think you guys forgot one VERY important moment in all of this theory. A moment that could also explain why the hero of time is refereed to as 'Cursed Swordsman' in Twilight Princess. During the events of Majora's Mask link comes into contact with 'The fierce Deity' mask, a mask said in game to have dark powers equaling that of Majora's. By putting the mask on, the hero of time could've become tainted by it's dark power. This dark power may be the reason why the Hero's Shade exists in the first place. The hero's Shade is nothing but a Cursed soul with many regrets, which is why it is able to manifest itself to Link in Twilight Princess. Because these feelings of regret were so strong, the power of the Fierce deity allowed The hero of time to assume the form found in twilight princess, as the Hero's Shade. After the Hero's Shade has succeeded in teaching Link all of his hidden skills, the curse laid on The hero of time is finally broken, and the Hero's spirit can finally be put to rest, knowing that he played a pivotal part in the end of Ganondorf's reign of terror in hyrule.

darren shields You would be surprised man. They made an incredibly awesome story in Majora's Mask and it had an incredible hidden meaning. They take constant measures to relay story from past games into their games. Twilight Princess had a ton of this within its world and this theory seems too perfect. Why else would Ganondorf be made to punish for his sins by the sages? Why would the torture chamber in Gerudo desert exist? Why was their a Hylean Crest all over it? Their had to be a reason and its hinted at what that reason could be. Ocarina of Time had a shadow temple and a message saying "the royal family's blood stained history lies within". Its apparent that the kingdom has perpetrated some trembling things

SurfingKyogre In Hyrule Historia Link left Hyrule to fine Navi in the Lost Woods for 3 to 4 months in till he encounter the Skull kid and try to save Termina in three day and going back home on the 4th day. Taking 3 to 4 months to return back to Hyrule. So Link left Hyrule for at 6 or 8 months and Hero of time return to Hyrule at age of 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 years by what player thinks in my opinion. But if want go by what the creator said he would be 9 or 10 years old after his adventure in Majoras Mask.

    • @Drewan27

I mean I think that's just part of it. In both situations, regardless of who he was according to prophecies surrounding him, Link is ultimately just a guy doing the best he can to protect Hyrule. If he stayed, Hyrule falls to Ganon during his 7 years of slumber. If he leaves Hyrule falls apart while he's gone. What could he do? I feel like it all just illustrates the harsh reality that no matter how hard you try, things are just going to go to shit sometimes.

@Matt Walker or the Hero of Time couldve gone to Zelda, not warn her of hyrule’s fate, given him the Ocarina of Time, and then pull the Master Sword again. essentially it is repeating OoT but at the end, Link warns Adult Zelda of wtf will happen if she sends him back again.
That or he sits down to think that pink fairies, after they completed their missions, disappear, Navi completed hers, and didn’t wanna see Link heartbroken and flew away and promptly disappeared. If he sat down and theorized (much like we’re all doing), maybe he wouldn’t have gone to termina, and stay in Hyrule to aid them in the eventual Gerudo-Hylian War. Either which way, either Hyrule or Termina gets fucked.

A great video guys. Nintendo can be pretty dark at times. It's never mentioned, but it's very implicit that the Gerudo tribe must have been all but killed off. The story of Ocarina of Time is quite tragic too. None of the branching timelines are exactly happy.
This video and theory is even more relevant now, since it's speculated that Zelda U will take place between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess! I hope these events will be elaborated on.

EdgeCraft1 He's not quite a stalfos, theres a transparent film surounding him that resembles what the poe sisters loooked like in twilight princess, I think he's just what his tittle implies, a shade, not quite ghost and not Quite Stalfos, instead something imbetween.

If this is already a theory, I've not heard it, so I apologise if so: Surely Link's red eyes are indicative that not only did he team up with Impa ( as Zelda's closest confidant, she would have been told of Link and his exploits, even though nobody else knew of him), but alongside Impa he clearly underwent some physical change. I believe that somehow he invoked whatever entity the Sheikah worship. This is evident in Impa's appearance. There is quite clearly some legend that is honoured by Impa in respect to the commemorative make up seen around her LEFT EYE (this is important later). Almost as if some God like being had ONE red eye (as seen in the stones) It's worth noting as well, that the Sheikah have Red eyes.
I believe at some point, with Impa and Link having teamed up to form a last line of defense against the impending Gerudo, Link underwent a physical change in relation to this Sheikah God. Perhaps taking on the physical manifestation of this God. Link after this invocation, PHYSICALLY took on the appearance of what Impa was commemorating in make up, as mentioned earlier . The ONE RED EYE. Link ended up with ONE red eye. Not in make up, but physically so! Link's armor in the world he found himself in after his Termina exploits, is quite clearly marked full of Sheikah symbology.

+ZurielWraithblades without the hero of time, how would he have been able to set the howl stones, along with MM melodies?
Without the hero, how would he have been able to teach his descendant sword tricks even beyond death? The heroes shade being a stalfos is not correct: normal stalfos do not look, and act like that.

    • @ZurielWraithblades
      @ZurielWraithblades 9 років тому

+You Who Chose Godhood Hero of Time isnt normal, Skyward Sword, he is always reborn, as is Zelda and Demise...thus it wouldnt be far fetch that he would retain knowledge from life.

+ZurielWraithblades That still doesn't explain the howl stones.

    • @stevenhicks7613
      @stevenhicks7613 5 років тому +1

I think it's the same. Demise's hatred is born into Ganondorf. That Ganondorf is sealed by the sages and returns to a flooded Hyrule coveting the winds in Wind waker (adult timeline). Alternatively, that same Ganondorf is foiled by child link in the child timeline and leads to twilight princess. In the case that Ganondorf wins, his form of Ganon with the full triforce plagues the downfall timeline.

Your facts are a little off. It has been stated numerous times throughout the series that the Sheikah tribe are the personal bodyguards of the royal family. And yes, while they are nearly extinct, they're not all gone. Kafei in Majora's Mask is a member of the Sheikah tribe, which means that either his mother or father is one too. Also, Impa is still alive in Twilight Princess, she is seen as a very old woman with hair wrapped around her body. She ties one knot in her hair for every year of age, and is said to have 1,000 knots, which means the war took place roughly 1,000 years ago.

The people in that tent changes many times over the course of the game. I think I remember a women that took part in defending the man with long hair and the kids from Link's old village. Can you elaborate a bit? I may just have to end up playing the game again.
