In case anybody was curious, Xero came out with an all-leather black Prio called the "all day." I am a new RN and just ordered a pair, which is great for persons who need a non-permeable upper to keep biological nasties out. I'm about to get some of the Xtenex XH200 in 30 inch length.

@@glhIII Hi Doc, unfortunately I had to return them. They weren’t wide enough in the toes for me. I would say they are on the more narrow end of the minimalist shoe spectrum. When I sized up to the mens to get some more width in the toes, the heel was too wide. I’m now wearing Be Lenka’s and the lowest cushioned Altra’s I could find. The Be Lenka’s are only 4mm so they don’t work on hospital floors but they are my daily drivers, so to speak. Thanks for what you do as well and educating people about natural movement!

Already had my Prios on order when I found this video but had no idea that shoe accessories like these had advanced so far. What an eye opener.
I recently picked up a pair of cheap water shoes that without the insole on them allow me to feel every little nub on the bottom of the sole. The feedback even walking on a hardwood floor was shocking at first after decades in traditional padded shoes and safety boots with a steel insert cutting me off from the ground even farther.
After wearing those shoes for just one day I found on my next barefoot walk that my feet felt wonderful with each step. I could feel the nuances as various parts of my sole touches the ground. They must have started to wake up those nerve endings again. So I can clearly see the value in the insoles you featured.
The water shoes also have elastic lacing which I knew I’d be missing once my Prios arrived. I had no idea replacement laces like that exist, and the design seems brilliant. allowing such individual tension control at each eyelet. I’m sold, off to do some searches and decide which version suits me best 👍
Thanks so much for the detail in your reviews. I learned so much. Fantastic job!

First of all, thanks for the review of the review!
Secondly, I am really glad that you discovered your feet! It’s amazing how when feet are working well how much better you can feel and perform.
You’re lucky, after working for years in safety boots and steel toes, a lot of guys are destroyed. So you’re quite blessed to be doing so well. It is definitely a message to get out to the rest of the brotherhood of the working class. So many of those guys are suffering back pain and knee degeneration unnecessarily and if they only knew! ….

This was nicely done. I learned some things about this shoe I was not aware of. I was considering this shoe for a few weeks now, and the laces and insoles would be a great addition. Thank you for a very comprehensive review. You should include links to the products, I hear they could sometimes pay commission on some items using the platform, take advantage of it.

I got the Prio All-Days. This was my first ever zero drop shoe but I’m a person who was barefoot for about 6 months out of the year growing up; though I don’t have that luxury in the city, I still am barefoot around the house and in the yard. It took me about an hour to get used to the Xeros; they just felt great immediately. I also noticed that my posture has changed the same day and has continued to improve.
Running in them is a slightly new adventure - I was getting into running several years ago but stopped because of knee issues and had to give it up. I started again with shorter distances but once again had problems, even trying not to heel strike.
With these I’m taking it slow. I heel struck the first time I ran some short distances and was aware of it, and paid for it the next day. 😖 After that was done I tried again and overcompensated a bit in the other direction, and had burning calves for a day. Watching more coaching videos I’m learning to correct my stride and foot fall, and it’s starting to feel really good, and very little knee issues thus far. I’m not doing any long runs yet and still strengthening my calves but it feels like I’m remembering how I used to run as a kid. Even had a dream about that the other night. :-)
So I’d recommend these to anyone; the benefits go way beyond just the feet. If you’re going to be running, take it easy and don’t rush it.

Excellent story! Thanks for your contribution. We like to say, you have to "earn the right" to use a shoe like this. Most people's feet move poorly and are under-conditioned. Your initial response is very common, but you stick with it, and you can see great results from shoes like this. You can do mobility, strength, and conditioning drills to speed the transition successfully and repair your feet. Sazji, again, thanks and great job! - Doc

    • @sazji
      @sazji 2 роки тому

@@glhIII Thanks for your response! Honestly I feel that other than the heel strike issue in running that first time, the feet were the least of my issues. For example I used to have sore feet after really long (practically all-day) walks, or after being on my feet 8 hours at work. That stopped immediately with the prios, probably because I never completely stopped going barefoot. (Do people really wear shoes all day at home? 🤯)
But running, even short distances, was a wake-up call. It brought home how much conventional shoes had affected my leg muscles, posture, and especially ankle-calf strength and flexibility. As I work on that, it continues to positively affect my walking. The increase in calf strength has been amazing, and even before short bits of running, I started feeling lighter on my feet. I find myself looking for excuses to run at work. :-)
I’d love to find people where I live (Seattle) who are experienced in barefoot/minimalist running to get a little critique from but every local online resource/forum seems like it’s been inactive for years.
