Recall will go exactly like One drive. And I learned the one drive lesson about a year and a half ago. This is industrial spying on a grand level. I give it two updates maximum, before recall is turned on by default and I bet it is a real shit show to disable it, if at all. They will for sure use the if you disable this feature windows may become unstable warning to scare people.

Last time I lambasted Windows 11 for "features" like Recall, start menu ads or drive encryption (without user consent), some shill responded with "but it's all optional, you can turn it all off". Yes... until you can't. All of this shit will be made optional in the beginning, but at some point, they'll just silently make it the default. Apparently there is a build of Windows 11 where they enable Bitlocker encryption without asking the user. I can already imagine how thousands of people bring a broken laptop to a repair service, and when asking them if they could restore the data, being asked for the Bitlocker key phrase... and having no clue whatsoever. This is gonna be fun.
Windows is turning into actual malware.

Yup, condition the user to the environment so they see the word at least. Make it optional. So they see the word. The word because something innocuous. Then make it mandatory. I am not moving over to 11 on my main machine. They can take a hike. Ive had it with their spying and google's spying and everbody else treating me like i am some sort of product that needs to be sold on the open market.

They crossed that threshold with 10. No joke: the reason I stopped using Windows was when it ate through my data allowance in about 5-10 minutes when I wasn't connected to Wifi. I wasn't using anywhere close to the amount of data the machine was using, meaning Windows 10 was doing stuff in the background without my knowledge, much less permission.
Oh, and they've had a keylogger on it since 10, as well. 11 isn't even trying to hide MS's contempt for its users.

As a Linux user since 2009, I can tell you that replacing Windows on some people's PCs is difficult, because they use software for work that doesn't exist in Linux (and probably won't run in Wine too).
And many of the users don't even understand basics like the fact that the desktop is a directory, that they can create a folder to organize the desktop full of files. How do you think they could even try to install a new operating system? Or if you install it for them, do you think they will adapt to the new environment without traumas or disturbing you for every little thing like shutting down the PC? And the day they need for work a new software that exist only for Windows and won't run in Wine? Dual boot with Windows or turn back to only Windows installation?
      Reality is disappointing...

There's your problem ... Windows is a long long way from useless. There is still a fairly long list of stuff you can do on Windows that doesn't happen on Linux and some of it is very basic stuff... like resizable desktop icons and exclusive access modes for audio and I/O devices.
Last year I decided to try Mint, to build an HTPC system...
On Windows this is painfully easy... Install a media player and make desktop shortcuts to your movie, music and playlist collections. Set it so you player runs in "bit exact" mode taking exclusive control of the audio during playback, run the whole show on "click and play" file associations... an hour later... bob's your uncle.
But on Linux no dice... I had questions, beginner questions, but still questions needing answers... "How do I make the desktop icons bigger?" "Which media player supports click and play?", etc. So I went to the Linux help forums... I must have asked about 20 times in different places and all I kept getting back was "What? You don't know how to do that??" and no help at all.
Why is Linux still a single digit market share after all this time?
Because you guys are all caught up in your operating systems and snobbery... never once considering application design and usability features that match or best other OSs. It ain't how many CL commands you know. It isn't how many settings you can tweak ... it's all about how easily you can do real-life, day in-day out tasks.

"Recall" will be a problem for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) in companies. Because companies that use BYOD usually let people connect with their personal device, but then access work-related data only remotely (either in the browser or with tools like remote desktop). With Recall, every bit of sensitive data or file you are looking at online will now also be recorded to your PC. This is going to be a security nightmare for sysadmins in such companies.

So not too much of a biggie tbh. So please, people, stop logging in with your Microsoft Accounts! You literally DO NOT need to do this, even if you use Office 365. Ask me if you don't know how to skip the Microsoft Account login screen when setting up a new machine.

Just don't provide them with the means to track you like an email address and your problem is solved.
There is no benefit to using windows on any platform. Everything windows software can do can be done faster, more conveniently and cheaper by other systems so why complain? If something doesn't work you try something different. That is how most escape the windows illusion and disappointment.
I also don't complain about google's android. I learned it runs on linux and took advantage of it by uploading a modified version that corrects a mistake google made where they "accidentally" removed the ability to login as root rendering any device it runs on useless. Next I logged in as root and completely removed OneDrive from the device and removed root access for apps like google store. Basically google and microsoft are no longer capable to change system settings and update software behind your back even when you set it disabled in settings. Not a flaw "just a feature I don't need".

That won't fly in the business world. 'Almost Word' or 'almost Excel' is a problem if the result does not render exactly the same or is different from intended (that does happen). There is no such thing as 100% compatibility. • @Munenushi
      @Munenushi Місяць тому

@@rcstl8815 actually, as I hold multiple Certifications in I.T. - I would have tested it by changing the size of the 'picture folders' and then charging it again, to see if the 'up loads' changed in size to match the Photos location. This would isolate that it is attributed to the Photos directory and not anything else (Updates, Other Apps, etc etc).
You should have also checked your Internet Service Provider Account page, to see if the 'upload' was truly registering with them. This would isolate the potentiality of the phone files merely being Backed Up to your main PC you had it plugged into and 'showing up as data uploaded on the phone', versus '2 GB of files being Uploaded into the internet'.
For example, on the Apple Community Forums, a user there reported they checked their cellular data usage on their phone - only to find a reading of a 648MB DL and 127MB UL - and since the customer stated they only had the phone 3 days and had an Orange UK plan with only 500MB allowance, they were horrified. The user states they logged on to their Orange account website page to find that they have utilized only 50Mb (as a registered amount with their ISP). This could potentially indicate that their data (such as Mail, etc) could simply be being Backed Up to their main laptop/pc/etc and not truly 'uploaded to the internet/cloud/etc'.
There are many ways that your mobile phone can potentially be auto-magically Backing Up your Photos to your PC (and NOT be "uploading it to microsoft").
For example, if you have an Apple iPhone, "iCloud" automatically backs up your photos 'to the cloud' (their servers), so that you can access your photos on the iCloud website or in the iCloud app for Windows on the PC.
If you have an Android mobile phone, Google Photos can automatically be Backing Up your Photos to their 'cloud' (servers) where you can access them from Google Photos. Also, Windows Autoplay could be running, which can automatically import photos from your phone to the PC.
There are other things that could cause '2 gig uploads' as well, but I'm sure you're thinking of all of these things, as you catch up to those of us with actual educational knowledge (versus 'learning by tinkering over the years'). Since I'm sure you will analyze and take the time to try different things and approaches to find out exactly what is going on, instead of latching on to the first suspicion you have, then I'm sure you can take it from here. I'm glad I asked in the hopes of possibly helping you anyway. Take care

If one allows to their invaluable data to be hosted by a 3rd party, especially such as Microsoft, take it from a cyber security expert here, you have no way of knowing if your data is safe on their end as Microsoft has always been a target from malicious bad actors to acquire your data. I know and understand how Microsoft through their systems updates, changes all your system files and settings to their defaults in which Microsoft assumes you do not know what you want in your own computer or not? I turned off my Microsoft updates until I know and am ready to allow Microsoft to update my system with their updates, patches or hot fixes. I protect my system through other means.

    3. After install finishes, connect to the internet and use windows update to fully update.
    4. add a registry entry to disable automatic install of suggested apps.

No, the reason I wouldn't worry about Recall data being backed up to the cloud is that the database they are compiling is absolutely huge.
I'm more concerned about it being an obvious hacking target, while providing literally nothing of value. Still no one has come up with anything this does that would be useful, that can't be accomplished in a safer way.
It *only* makes sense as a surveillance thing. It would probably start with them using the data locally to figure out ads, but eventually they will collect data from it.
The only other option, the one I hope is true, is that they just have this AI tech and don't know what to do with it. So they're throwing anything against the wall, hoping to find something the average person would actually use.
But they still have to be monetizing it somehow, so I still stick with the surveillance thing.

@@patrunidileep4802 Uninstalling it won't do anything. It will be reinstalled/re-enabled by default during an update. Or at least that's what I have observed it do in the past.
If you really want to stop it in its tracks, without microsoft being able to do anything about it... for the most part it seems... you have to jail it. You have to get around the extra security measures in the ownership settings to do it too with some things Microsoft wants to get away with. Cortana used to be one.
Anyways, you change the ownership settings so you actually own your computer properly, then you drag the offending applications exe and any other important looking exe or similar files into a unnamed folder. Doesn't matter where you put that folder. The point to it, is that it breaks the other commands going on that launch it, and run its processes, all by changing its directory essentially. And because of this, it won't load at boot, it won't try to automatically resurrect itself, etc and so forth. Why?
Well, the first stuff is cause the directory changed. But the second part about resurrecting itself I think is because the file still exists on the computer, so when searched for, it's still found. Just not in the right place. BUT they don't seem to have figured out how to 'beat' that part yet... I'll have to check, so expect an edit in a few moments if you see this comment right away, but I am pretty sure onedrive is still in jail on my system right now.

As a long-time Windows user, Linux Mint is easier to use than Windows 11. I'm not joking. The biggest "problems" are learning to use a new OS with different software and/or replacements, most of which is a slight variation on stuff you've been using, and bleeding-edge proprietary hardware that doesn't have drivers yet. Meanwhile 11 will fight with you when you try to do the most mundane tasks. Having to open regedit to change a camera name is ridiculous.
I work IT and Windows 11 was freezing on a client's computer because they had a slideshow background with automatic accent color on... No warning about using both options together, no real reason that should cause a CPU meltdown, but it happened. It's been an issue for months (multiple users reported it) and MS hasn't done a single thing to fix it, not even automatically setting the accent color to manual when slideshow is selected.
Not technically a Windows problem, but today I had to install MS Office on computers... The installer DOES NOT ALLOW you to select which MSO products you want. You get all of it or none of it. You can't uninstall individual packages after the fact or select packages before. The "fix" was to use XML as a configuration but it wasn't working correctly and I was on a deadline. So now those computers will have to have MS Publisher and a few others wasting space on their internal drives...
