  • Repair of a 1965 Vintage Fender super deluxe guitar amp. Customer complaint, running hot, noisy, Hum in audio. Turns out the main culprit was a disconnected negative bias capacitor, sending the 6L6 tubes into warp drive.
    Unique thing here is, the customer is a 15 year old boy, investing into a classic Fender amp, exploring the art. I am thrilled to take on this repair for him. This video is simply a health check. In part 2, I will dive into the actual repair. Issues are, eyelet caps, tremolo inop, Add Master volume, possible bypass the tremolo section for increased gain. Main thing is to get this amp reliable and great sounding for Okay. I love seeing the old equipment being used and appreciated by the new generation. There is hope my friends! It's very cool that the young man has such taste in amps! I'd shy away from mods like a master volume, though. One easily reversible mod would be to re-purpose the ground switch into a negative feedback switch. This would affect the gain structure of the amp and might give the owner more variation in the amp's capabilities. Good job, Terry!

    Nothing beats a Saturday afternoon looking over D-Labs shoulder while he works on an amp. Sound like the young man who owns this amp knows what he wants and is a D-Lab fan! Thank you Terry for your great content in 2020 and making a trying year more enjoyable.

    The 15-year-old is wiser than most, he admitted that he didn't know what was wrong and deferred to someone with greater knowledge and experience.

    The viewers of your channel Terry, are here to see you preform miracles of tube amp wizardry, so it is no surprise in the comments you earn praise! You well earned it! This young stud guitar player knew where to send this super amp to have the D-Lab repair deluxe(all D-Lab repaired are deluxe)! He must play at a level to know what he has in this amp! The boy is smart! Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz

    He was running it at 6. Kid likes it LOUD. My late 60s Super Reverb is monstrous at that setting. Awesome, but ear splitting.

    I bought my very first amp somewhere around March or April of 1964, a brand new early Super Reverb, when I was 16 years old. I still have it. Other than the weight, which can do in your lower back, they are exceptional amps, and can provide great sounds whether low volume cleans, or running at volume seven or eight to get some overdrive dynamics. But boy, they are a loud 40 watts at that level, with 40 inches of sound source!

    Hi, I have a problem with my fender super Reverb amp by mistake I tried to turn it on at 220volt, and then when the on off switch is turned on it looks like everything work OK, but when I turn the standby switch on, it burns the fuse every time...do you have any idea what's going wrong? Thanks! Greetings from greece

      @@d-labelectronics please tell him to get a smaller amp that he can crank if he needs less volume or build him one.
      I had a Super for 25 years and yes they are too loud for most places.
      He can also put it out front and lean it back on the tilt back legs facing backward which will prevent slicing off ears in the audience. They used to call me 'Vinny d razor'

      whats wrong with doing that?

    • @ix-Xafra
      @ix-Xafra 3 роки тому

      @@ewerton8463 it's a Blackface Super in good nick why mess with it?
      Part of the reason most guys would buy a Super would be to use in venues large enough where you can dial it. SRV used Supers but with a single 15inch 8ohm speaker for an intensional 2ohm OPT trans/speaker mismatch. In his Vibroverbs allegedly his tech swapped in Suoer Reverb OPT for same effect - thick strings big 15'' speakers with tubes pushed very hard.
      From the owners pic of his axe he wants SRV sound and a master volume on a Super won't go close and spoil a great amp
