- Can Nintendo's Gameboy Micro play the system's most unique game cartridges? Will they even fit? What is the comfort factor when playing these odd-shapes carts? Are these games bigger than the console itself?
In this video I insert the most special cartridges into my GB Micro to see if this super small handheld is compatible with these unique games.

Technically the e-Reader CAN fit to Micro, but the only downside is that it needs to be the original Japanese e-Reader AGB-010 model (that's the one without the link connector, the one that was released in US and Australia is the e-Reader+)
There is also the MP3 player cartidges. Very unique cart and yes, it works with the micro perfectly

There is a solution to play all Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on a Game Boy Micro: a GBA cartridge-shaped flash cartridge that has a huge library of Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance games ported on to one flash cartridge. The GBA cartridge-shaped flash cartridge can also work on a GBA and a GBA SP as well. It makes up for why the Game Boy Micro wasn't fully compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.

Gb Micro is my fave! I usually will use my og gba and sp for trading and have a gba modded with an ips screen. Honestly the IPS does make it feel "fake" but it does come in handy playing topsy turvy etc. with a backlit screen. The micro turned my most used sp into least used. I love the shoulder buttons on it. xP
Since it is so small, it is pretty much the most portable of all the systems. It will easily fit in any pocket. Thanks for watching.
The GBM is just a crippled GBA that can't play GBC or GB games with a worse screen and made for toddler hands. It seems more like a scam than an actual product.
I miss my gameboy advance... I had that exact same atomic purple one and loved it. All I have is my yellow gameboy color and ds lite. My advance was probably thrown out by my parents at some point, and my red SP was stolen.

Montion control games need to be configured at GBA SP mode, otherwise, the directional sensors would be inverted. Thats why a GBC game with motion control like Kirby Tilt & Tumble, only works properly at a classic GBA model.
Yes, exactly. And Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble is now on the Switch Online Gameboy service and the motion control works well there, even when using a Pro Controller. Nice to see Nintendo bring forgotten game back!

If you want to play game boy color and normal game boy games on the game boy micro you have to use the a flash drive and load the rom on it like the ever drive and you can play it hope it helps

If using the GBA Everdrive, GB and GBC are playable but through emulation. If you want to play GB and GBC natively, you will need a GBC Everdrive.
Look up something called Goomba color. It's a GBC emulator for gba. It's not perfect but many games work
For example Pokemon Crystal does not work on goomba

It is a pretty good game and the rumble works a lot better than you'd think. The cart is rather expensive these days though...
@@ZackGaz I remember a guy in middle school loaning it to me since we both had a gba sp. That rumble was the coolest shit my kid mind had ever seen, even though I got stuck in the game, it's lived rent free in my head. Now I'm motivated to go after a copy since I was able to snag a Analogue Pocket.
@@logicaloverdrive8197 I appreciate you leaving this cool comment. I just pre-ordered an Analogue Pocket myself and really looking forward to it. If you can't find a physical cart of Drill Dozer, it is available on the Wii U Virtual Console and rumble is supported through the controller. Not exactly the same but a less costly alternative.

That’s weird, my e-reader fits my gameboy micro and works fine w would on a gameboy advance. It has the link cable insert and port too

yoshi topsy tuvy would have been suitable too click ds/gameboy sp because your game cart is inverted too the bottom instead of the top.
If you had the original model of the e reader without the link slot, it might work
Ok here's a follow up cheap test. If you pop the PCB out of a GB/GBC game and push it in there carefully lined up on the correct pins, will it work?
Would games from aliexpress work on the gba micro?

OK video. You really, really should have shown if the motion controls worked because the cartridge normally would have been at the top. I never had one of those games, but I can imagine the sensor data being rotated 180 degrees would cause problems without some inverse calibration procedure. EDIT: 4:32 seems to be one such procedure.
The Game Boy Micro (GBM) was, IMO, the worst Game Boy ever released. The first one had technical limitations and was a first run, but even it was better than this. GBM was released AFTER the near-perfect GBASP, but didn't have backwards compatibility, didn't have the same link cable (WHY?!!), was built for toddler's hands, tiny screen, and was generally pointless. Kudos on fitting an already-portable system into an even smaller form factor, but it's so uncomfortable. There's a reason nobody uses teeny tiny cell phones like in Zoolander. I mean the GBASP was a bit cramped for my hands. This thing would have been unplayable for me.
This is like a car that can only drive on highways.

I believe WarioWare Twisted has an option to reverse the controls so it can be played on original GBA units or bottom mount SP/Micro. I think it asks you this when you first boot up the game, if I remember correctly. However, Kirby Tilt'n Tumble on GBC didn't have this foresight so the controls will be reversed (but works fine on GBC or original GBA hardware).
Agreed on the Gameboy Micro. It really is only for collectors as actually playing it isn't comfortable. The screen is also very small, just a little bigger than a postage stamp although it is nice and bright. It is nice that it has a headphone jack but the proprietary charging/link cable is a major inconvenience. Swapping faceplates seems like a cool idea but that never went anywhere. I'll stick with my AGS101 or a modded IPS screen in the original GBA.

Those games are mostly rare and pricey.

Yeah, and the Micro's screen is so small; just slightly bigger than a postage stamp. So it isn't good for long play sessions or RPGs because text is so tiny.
