I use a silver metallic sharpie. They seem to work best. I have some machines that have writing from 2016. When you need to change the date you just hit it with some alcohol and it comes right off.
LouCFur90 it really depends on the grass growth, rain, and if the X748 is mowing at the same time. Right now I'm putting 5-8 hrs a week on the 1445 because I'm mowing every 4 days. If just the 1445 is mowing it takes a shade over 4 hrs to mow. If the x748 is also mowing it takes 2:45. So that is why I guessed end of July for the next change. I'm hoping in late summer it will slow down significantly and I can get back to other projects that I am behind on!!!
It can be that for sure. But I only mow for 6-7 months a year. So even with snow removal the 1445 only pushes 120-140 hrs/year so that is only 2-3 changes per year. Cost per change is about $28 (with a Deere filter and Plus 50 II oil). So basically I am spending an extra $60/year on oil changes. Most likely for nothing but when you have units like these $60 is a drop in the bucket to major work.
Geez and I was hoping to see you wrestle with the drain plug! That's usually the best part.
HA! I've learned... just grab a 6 pt socket and the biggest ratchet you can fit and go..... Other machines are much more entertaining!!!
what type of marker did you use to write on the oil filters?

@@mmrbeef thanks.
How long does it take you to put on 50 hours?

That's a lot of oil changes!

If the cost doesn't bother you, then I'm sure the machines don't mind the fresh oil. Thanks for the feedback :)
About 50 hours.
