The timing trick to Repel/Undead is just which half of the animation loop you're on. It never changes. For example, the frame where the ranger's sword is closest to him, the paladin's shield is furthest from her, the wizard's staff is lowered, or the cleric's sceptre is raised.

    Fantastic trick to help out.
Early Pirate Ship. Create your party and build to level 2. I use Paladin, Lark, Wiz, Cleric. Then save game at Inn in Castle. Build a Ranger with only points in Dex and Str. Venture out and kill level 1 monsters using repel and undead using ranger only. Have cleric get gold with open spell. Now get bow for lark and blowgun for ranger (no armor, don’t need it). Have only the Ranger talk to Lord British to become level 5. Go in and out of castle until a pirate ship arrives. Battle. Fire at distance. Use mage to cast missiles. Claim the ship. Go back into castle. Save game, remove ranger from party and add paladin back in. All characters are level 2, so no large monsters, you have access to the ship. You can easily buy multiple time stop, get gold pick, and mystic armor if you know where. You can farm these low level guys while exploring the entire map, basically free XP and GP. Build INT and WIS scores in Ambrosia, then do the Death Gultch Merchant gold grind and use compass hearts to flee. This can max out STR and DEX abilities.

It’s ok to goto Level 2 as there are no changes at all except you get 100 extra HP which can help if you forget to buy food. Going to Level 3 triggers the stronger monster group.

Devils Gulch has a secret entrance to the south so you don’t need to bribe the guard.

I've watched videos and playthroughs of this game and I still didn't know about the select menu.

It's me on BandLab as Project 2a03. I started periodically doing videogame music covers under this name in 2003. www.bandlab.com/bands/band7253455309575750
