    wowww, this is awesome. I used to vacation there every winter for years with my family when I was a kid. Even in the 90's, it felt like it was falling into disrepair. Everything looked dated and old. It felt like it was going out of style and we only went there because my grandpa had some sort of memories of going there in his own childhood. I remember hours of swimming in that indoor pool, ice skating with my grandpa, skiing down that tiny little ski slope with my cousins... This video was so well made. Thanks so much for sharing. Brings back so many memories. I can't believe they just abandoned it.

    I freaking LOVE all things retro, and this place has it all!! Even the intro , kids with bowl cut hair, mom's wearing "mom" pants, and big hair!! The flash backs are always a plus, seeing ppl enjoying life, in a simpler time. Thanks guys!! Again, another awesome explore!

    My grandparents took me there many weekends in the late 70s early 80s. A lot of very good memories of that ski lodge and skating rink. I stayed in some of those rooms and ate in the dinning room. It was a great place back in the day.

    Your editing on this one was superb! There was so much to film there, and a surprising lack of graffiti and vandalism. I loved the natural decay even as I felt sad that this all will be gone in time. The buildings were very state of the art when they were built, and the architecture really made a statement. The penthouse was pretty amazing, and very sixties.your intercuts of old footage with the present was very effective in showing what it was like in its heyday. It seems the popularity of these all inclusive family resorts has ended...but 100 years is a good run. Thanks for sharing this with us, stay safe out there and keep having fun.🖤🇨🇦

      I totally agree-- this was a stunning presentation. In the Fifties/Sixties our family would go down to New England from Montreal every year. Always had a wonderful time in these places. It's a shame to see so many of these resorts going to wrack & ruin. I keep thinking that there may be a renaissance again one day. What with this carbon tax on gas, all the extra charges involved with air travel, and the many terror incidents elsewhere in the world, travel within North America is starting to look more and more attractive.

    Very cool how there's actually grass growing on the carpet inside the buildings. A true example of nature reclaiming a man-made structure.

    Sad that they closed it. Again you can see the life in there. everybody was happy and having a good time with family and friends. Old times were always the best. The happiness what people had.. but today it's not that fun anymore.. everything is about smartphones and electronics. People don't go out like this anymore like the old days.

      It is sad but the blame isn't on apple or android. Travel costs have lowered, economy, and general change in culture of what is desired has changed. As are you watching this video on a cloud? No an electronic device, but that's different right.

    I find it interesting that there have apparently been some recent cleanup efforts inside some of the buildings. For example, the footage in the pool area shows many missing tiles from the ceiling yet the pool and floors are nearly free of tiles or debris. Even the ballroom floor is fairly clean despite many missing ceiling tiles. Did you have a sense that any such cleanup was either going on or had recently taken place while you were there?

    Great video. I think the BEST urban / abandoned exploration videos are where you include pictures or video, before and after. It give you a sense of what it was like at the location in question. Also nice with some background story etc, and current situation. It does take some research but it adds so much more depth to the videos. I too like these videos and miss the "good old times". Everyone is just doing their "virtual" life on the Internet, we have become the most IRL isolated and disconnected people with modern technology, not that is irony for you, given we are more connected than ever and watching this video on UA-cam ;-)

    • @MommiDonni1
      @MommiDonni1 6 років тому

      You should get off digital UA-cam and go physically explore these abandoned sites instead of watching them on the internet. Go live life like you say away from digital distraction. Just a thought I had after reading your comment. I personally can't get out and explore this way or I would which is why im grateful for this channel!

    • @dennisolof9994
      @dennisolof9994 6 років тому

      My comment was not intended to be negative. If there are videos and pictures, before and after it is nice if it is possible to include them in a exploration video. And to answer your question, yes I do try to get out as much as possible but that is extremely hard with family, work and all that. And as I am NOT in the USA but Europe, there is not much abandoned stuff to explore in my location. One is wise not to make assumptions, stereotypes and so on, about people who comment here on UA-cam, the contents of the comments etc. My location is similar to Anchorage, Alaska. In terms of the seasons, weather and size of population. I wish there was lots of abandoned stuff but there is not. I do other things of course and this RnK channel is among my favorite ones doing abandoned videos. It lets me explore a lot of things I can never get to in real life even though it is a video and not IRL and that is a bit sad, but not much I can do about it. The world is not in a good place now and we all suffer from that in one way or another. Thanks for you comment and glad to hear you too enjoy this channel.

    I worked up there playing the drums, for about a year from 1999 to 2000. We played for acts in the show room, and also played the lounge. Had a room in the staff quarters, but lived in the area. It was a dump on it’s last legs when I was there, but I had some fun times. Faded memories now, but I have some good stories.

    Maybe not all hope is lost for this place:
    “Plans envision nine state-of-the-art adult and youth baseball fields, batting cages and six multi-purpose soccer fields that can also be used for lacrosse and field hockey.
    On the hotel side, plans have called for renovating the hotel and providing 467 rooms, restaurants, a 40,000-square-foot conference hall, restoration of the 18-hole golf course, an indoor spa, indoor pools, a water park, skiing and refurbishing of the ice rink.”
    The renovation part would be great salvaging a lot of the buildings and the rink. I found this in an article from Feb 2018.

    It must have been quite a hit to the local economy when that shut. The amount of money the business brought into the area was probably huge, kind of wild to see how the rich guys lived
    Thanks R&K

      Mostly agree. Need to seriously turn down the levels on the music, though.

    Loved the video! So nice to see a graffiti free place, not that it's the first you've done, but I find your videos very refreshing and informative. Great work, I know you work your butts off, and it's appreciated. 😊❤

    Awesome job! I think this was one of the last major resorts to close in that region. It hung in there for a long time after the others closed.

    You guys are the best. Love the vintage footage/pics and intro. It reminds me of Dan Bell's Dead Mall series.

    That was both entertaining and sad. Wonder why this resort, so popular not many years ago, has failed?
    Loved the video of the different parts of the resort when open and active interspersed with the current shots of the same places.
    Great video, as usual. 👍👍

    i stayed at the resort they built next door just over a month ago and one of the old buildings was right up against the parking lot. I was so tempted to go over and explore but there was security at the gate. so cool that I came across this video and was able to see what it looked like. I cant believe how massive this place was! turns out my grandparents have stayed there before and played golf there! thanks for the awesome footage!

    The grey boots are cross country ski boots, so no need for a lot of support.
    Nice resort. Too bad it had to close.
    Thanks for the look!

    The room with the yellow GE stove had high end 1960s "Youngstown Kitchen" cabinets. I have similar 1950s stuff in my home. Very nice camera work as always. I loved the spliced in old photos and video. That had to take a lot of time to edit. Great Job!
