  • He Left USA to Build a Billion Dollar Tech Company in Nigeria is another episode of my promoting Africa series where I feature black entrepreneurs all across Africa who have built successful businesses and they tell us how they did it.
Today I’m gonna be sharing with you the story of Iyin Aboyeji who is a Nigerian Tech Founder who has built and cofounded successful tech companies that are currently worth billions of dollars in Nigeria. He first co-founded Andela and then went on to build Flutterwave which has processed over $1.2Billion dollars in Transactions. I came across him in 2016 when I started my first tech startup and I finally got the opportunity to share his story which is a really inspiring one so definitely watch this to the end.

Our dear President thinks everyone has to work with the government. He didn't realized govt suppose to makes the country conducive for citizens to realized their potentials.

I guess if it was another UA-camr from another continent, probably an American or a European, you’ll be giddy with excitement and see it as a compliment.
Let’s stop all these touchy and unnecessary issues that can ferment trouble for ourselves and play into the hands of those that don’t wish us well.
I guess you’re a Ghanaian. When Wode Maya came to Nigeria, most Ghanaians, including Wode himself, were pleasantly surprised at his reception by the prominent people he interviewed and the ordinary people he came across. He even met with this same UA-camr Tayo Aina and the chemistry between them was super. He was applauded all over the country. That’s how we roll in Naija.
It inherently springs from our confidence. We don’t waste time on unnecessary envy and jealousy, as we believe in our capacity to do it too, one way or another. We’re not afraid or shy to compliment others doing well. When our time comes, we’ll do it in style.
Now, all you can see in all of these encounters and take away is, Tayo copying Wode. That’s such a let down and crying shame on your part. Learn to rise above such pettiness!

that black man pride is a motto of mine too, as an immigrant in another country you get regarded as lower than a citizen of the country you live in, cause they believe we come from nothing and their countries is what is providing a life for us, and some of them come to that country and live with such esteem of higher value, than the citizens and still look down on them. stories like this gives that ginger.

I'm a living example of this fact. With 3 master's degree in IT from 3 European countries, a professional doctorate in engineering, and a company (not tech related, although I'm a senior IT project manager - freelance)where I have half of the workers as non educated Europeans - many of my workers and the customers still believe that they are better than me - only when the customers hear how many degrees I have and the workers see what I have that I get some respects. Imagine that!

That was the hooking part of the interview for me...It wasn't until I visited some other African countries that I realized how fortunate we are as Nigerians, who controls almost all our factors of Productions (Land, Labour, Capita & Entrepreneurship). This is the reasons why Nigeria is also facing a lot of selective thrashings from the western world, cause they see that 90% of the black professionals & great minds in their countries are Nigerians or descendants of Nigerian parents...and we mostly train our children to think like Omo Naija, even if they are born outside the mother nation.
